A Song of Ascents. Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.1 A Canticle in steps. When the Lord turned back the captivity of Zion, we became like those who are consoled.
As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people, from this time forth and for evermore.2 Then our mouth was filled with gladness and our tongue with exultation. Then they will say among the nations: “The Lord has done great things for them.”
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous put forth their hands to do wrong.3 The Lord has done great things for us. We have become joyful.
Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts!4 Convert our captivity, O Lord, like a torrent in the south.
But those who turn aside upon their crooked ways the LORD will lead away with evildoers! Peace be in Israel!5 Those who sow in tears shall reap in exultation.
When departing, they went forth and wept, sowing their seeds.
But when returning, they will arrive with exultation, carrying their sheaves.
