| 1 A Song of Ascents. Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides for ever. | 1 A Canticle in steps. When the Lord turned back the captivity of Zion, we became like those who are consoled. |
| 2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people, from this time forth and for evermore. | 2 Then our mouth was filled with gladness and our tongue with exultation. Then they will say among the nations: “The Lord has done great things for them.” |
| 3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous put forth their hands to do wrong. | 3 The Lord has done great things for us. We have become joyful. |
| 4 Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts! | 4 Convert our captivity, O Lord, like a torrent in the south. |
| 5 But those who turn aside upon their crooked ways the LORD will lead away with evildoers! Peace be in Israel! | 5 Those who sow in tears shall reap in exultation. |
| 6 When departing, they went forth and wept, sowing their seeds. | |
| 7 But when returning, they will arrive with exultation, carrying their sheaves. |
