Job 21

1 Then Job answered:	1 Rispose Iob, e disse:
2 "Listen carefully to my words, and let this be your consolation.	2 Io v' addomando che voi udiate li miei sermoni, e facciate penitenza.
3 Bear with me, and I will speak, and after I have spoken, mock on.	3 Sostenete me, acciò ch' io favelli; e dopo le mie parole, se vi parerà, ridete.
4 As for me, is my complaint against man? Why should I not be impatient?	4 Or (non) è contro all' uomo la mia disputazione, acciò che per merito non mi debba contristare?
5 Look at me, and be appalled, and lay your hand upon your mouth.	5 Attendete a me, e maravigliatevi, e ponete lo dito sopra la bocca vostra.
6 When I think of it I am dismayed, and shuddering seizes my flesh.	6 E io, quando me ne ricorderò, comincio a temere, e percuote lo tremore la mia carne.
7 Why do the wicked live, reach old age, and grow mighty in power?	7 Adunque perchè vivono i malvagi, sollevati sono e confortati colle ricchezze?
8 Their children are established in their presence, and their offspring before their eyes.	8 Lo seme loro permane innanzi a loro; la turba de' propinqui e de' nepoti (loro) nel cospetto loro sono.
9 Their houses are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them.	9 Le case loro sono sicure e umiliate, e non è la verga di Dio sopra loro.
10 Their bull breeds without fail; their cow calves, and does not cast her calf.	10 Lo bue loro concepette, e non disperse; la vacca partorì, e non è privata del suo parto.
11 They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.	11 Vanno, sì come le gregge, li loro figliuoli; e li fanciulli loro si rallegrano con le lusinghe.
12 They sing to the tambourine and the lyre, and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.	12 Tengono lo timpano e le chitarre, e rallegransi allo suono degli organi.
13 They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.	13 Menano in bene li loro dì, e in uno punto all' inferno discendono,
14 They say to God, 'Depart from us! We do not desire the knowledge of thy ways.	14 coloro che dicono a Dio: pàrtiti da noi, e la scienza delle tue vie non vogliamo.
15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to him?'	15 Chi è lo Onnipotente, che serviamo a lui? Che fa prode a noi, se oreremo a lui?
16 Behold, is not their prosperity in their hand? The counsel of the wicked is far from me.	16 Ma pertanto, perciò che non sono nelle sue mani li suoi beni, lo consiglio de' malvagi sia dalla lunga da me.
17 "How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? That their calamity comes upon them? That God distributes pains in his anger?	17 Quante volte la lucerna delli malvagi sarae spenta, e la inondazione sopraverrae a loro, e li dolori divideranno li loro furori?
18 That they are like straw before the wind, and like chaff that the storm carries away?	18 Saranno sì come paglia dinanzi alla faccia del vento, e sì come favilla la qual il vento sparge..
19 You say, 'God stores up their iniquity for their sons.' Let him recompense it to themselves, that they may know it.	19 Iddio serba alli loro figliuoli lo dolore del padre; e quando ritornerà, allora lo saperà.
20 Let their own eyes see their destruction, and let them drink of the wrath of the Almighty.	20 Vedranno gli occhii suoi la uccisione sua, e del furore dell' Onnipotente berà.
21 For what do they care for their houses after them, when the number of their months is cut off?	21 Che adunque a lui s' appartiene della casa sua dopo sè? e se lo numero delli mesi suoi sarà ammezzato?
22 Will any teach God knowledge, seeing that he judges those that are on high?	22 Or saravvi alcuno che vogli ammaestrare Iddio in scienza, il quale giudica le creature superiori?
23 One dies in full prosperity, being wholly at ease and secure,	23 Questo muore robusto e sano, ricco e bene avventurato.
24 his body full of fat and the marrow of his bones moist.	24 Le budella sue sono piene di grasso, e l'ossa sue sono bagnate delle midolla.
25 Another dies in bitterness of soul, never having tasted of good.	25 Ma l'altro muore nella amaritudine dell' anima sua senza quelle dolcezze.
26 They lie down alike in the dust, and the worms cover them.	26 E pure insieme nella polvere dormiranno,
27 "Behold, I know your thoughts, and your schemes to wrong me.	27 Certo io hoe conosciuto li vostri pensieri, e le sentenze contro a me malvagie.
28 For you say, 'Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked dwelt?'	28 E certo voi dite: dov'è la casa del principe? e dove sono li tabernacoli delli malvagi?
29 Have you not asked those who travel the roads, and do you not accept their testimony	29 Addomandate ciascuno delli viandanti, questa medesima cosa intenderete lui conoscere.
30 that the wicked man is spared in the day of calamity, that he is rescued in the day of wrath?	30 Perciò che nel dì della perdizione sarae servato lo rio, e al di del furore sarae menato.
31 Who declares his way to his face, and who requites him for what he has done?	31 Chi reprenderà dinanzi a lui la sua via? e chi renderae (dinanzi) a lui quello ch' elli fece?
32 When he is borne to the grave, watch is kept over his tomb.	32 Alli sepolcri sarae menato, e nella dannazione delli morti vegghierae.
33 The clods of the valley are sweet to him; all men follow after him, and those who go before him are innumerable.	33 Dolce fue la giara del fiume infernale, e dopo sè ogni uomo trarrae, e innanzi a sè senza numero.
34 How then will you comfort me with empty nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood."	34 Come adunque consolate me indarno, conciosia cosa che sia dimostrato che la vostra risposta contrasta alla veritade?
