1 After these things, when the anger of King Ahasuerus had abated, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what had been decreed against her.	1 Fatte queste cose, e uscita l'ira dal re, ricordossi della regina Vasti, quanto lo re l'avea offesa e dato tribolazione.
2 Then the king's servants who attended him said, "Let beautiful young virgins be sought out for the king.	2 E avvedendosi i savii dissero al re: cerca fer fanciulle vergini per tutto lo reame.
3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom to gather all the beautiful young virgins to the harem in Susa the capital, under custody of Hegai the king's eunuch who is in charge of the women; let their ointments be given them.	3 E mandisi persona che consideri (e conoscano) ch' elle siano belle; e siano menate nella città di Susa, e siano messe nella casa delle donne sotto la guardia di Egeo, eunuco e guardatore delle donne regali; e sia dato loro li ornamenti da donna, e ogni cosa ch' è bisogno loro.
4 And let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti." This pleased the king, and he did so.	4 E quale di costoro piacerà al re, sì sia posta nel luogo della regina Vasti. Piacque al re il detto di costui; e come fue consigliato, così comandò che fosse fatto (incontanente).
5 Now there was a Jew in Susa the capital whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, son of Shime-i, son of Kish, a Benjaminite,	5 In Susa abitava uno uomo giudeo, il quale avea nome Mardocheo, figliuolo di Iair, figliuolo di Semei, figliuolo di Cis della schiatta di Iemini.
6 who had been carried away from Jerusalem among the captives carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away.	6 Il quale fu trasportato di Ierusalem nel tempo che Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia trasmutò Ieconia re di Giuda.
7 He had brought up Hadassah, that is Esther, the daughter of his uncle, for she had neither father nor mother; the maiden was beautiful and lovely, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai adopted her as his own daughter.	7 E costui fu nutricatore della figliuola d' uno suo fratello; la quale fanciulla avea nome Edissa, e per uno altro nome si chiamava Ester, e non aveva padre nè madre, ed era bellissima molto. E morto il padre e la madre, Mardocheo se la fece figliuola.
8 So when the king's order and his edict were proclaimed, and when many maidens were gathered in Susa the capital in custody of Hegai, Esther also was taken into the king's palace and put in custody of Hegai who had charge of the women.	8 Ed essendo adempiuto il comandamento del re, e secondo il suo comandamento molte belle vergini (fossero) menate a Egeo eunuco in Susa, Ester fra le altre vergini fu menata ad Egeo, acciò che ella fosse servata nel numero delle altre.
9 And the maiden pleased him and won his favor; and he quickly provided her with her ointments and her portion of food, and with seven chosen maids from the king's palace, and advanced her and her maids to the best place in the harem.	9 La qual li piacque, e trovò grazia nel cospetto suo. [E comandò allo eunuco, che] le accelerasse li ornamenti da donna, e darle le sue parti (e incontanente la fece vestire); e diedela in guardia a sette polzelle della casa regale, che la dovessono governare e acconciare così lei come sè stesse che erano con lei (secondo la loro usanza).
10 Esther had not made known her people or kindred, for Mordecai had charged her not to make it known.	10 Ester non avea manifestato di quale gente ella fosse; e Mardocheo sì le avea comandato che ella il tenesse celato.
11 And every day Mordecai walked in front of the court of the harem, to learn how Esther was and how she fared.	11 E sempre andava Mardocheo dintorno al palagio, là dove Ester era rinchiusa, avendo cura della sua salute, per vedere a che fine ella dovea venire, e che dovesse essere di lei.
12 Now when the turn came for each maiden to go in to King Ahasuerus, after being twelve months under the regulations for the women, since this was the regular period of their beautifying, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and ointments for women	12 Ed essendo venuto il tempo per ordine di tutte le fanciulle, che entrassero al re, dopo che (tutte queste vergini) furono (raunate e) adornate d'ogni adornamento che a donna si richiede, e il mese duodecimo s' approssimasse; sì che per sei mesi si ungessero di olio di mirra, e altri sei mesi usasseno alcune unzioni aromatiche;
13 when the maiden went in to the king in this way she was given whatever she desired to take with her from the harem to the king's palace.	13 quelle che entravano al re, tutto quello che dimandavano, che s' appartenesse ad ornamento, li era dato; e passavano dal suo serraglio alla camera del re.
14 In the evening she went, and in the morning she came back to the second harem in custody of Sha-ashgaz the king's eunuch who was in charge of the concubines; she did not go in to the king again, unless the king delighted in her and she was summoned by name.	14 E quella v' entrasse al vespro, n' uscisse la mattina; e quella era dedotta in uno altro luogo, in custodia di Susagazi eunuco del re, constituto sopra le concubine; e quella ch' era mandata a costui, non potea tornare al re, s' egli non la facesse domandare per nome.
15 When the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had adopted her as his own daughter, to go in to the king, she asked for nothing except what Hegai the king's eunuch, who had charge of the women, advised. Now Esther found favor in the eyes of all who saw her.	15 Ed essendo passato il tempo secondo l'ordine, e istando uno dì che Ester figliuola di Abiail fratello di Mardocheo, la qual lui se l' avea adottata in figliuola, dovea entrare al re, non chiese alcuno adornamento (secondo che le altre chiedevano tutte); ed Egeo eunuco, guardiano delle vergini, l' adornò egli (perciò che l' amava ) secondo che a lui parse; e costei era molto formosa, e di una incredibile bellezza, ed era molto grata nel cospetto di tutti (che la vedea) e a tutti piacea molto.
16 And when Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus into his royal palace in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign,	16 E fu menata Ester al letto del re nel decimo mese, che si chiamava Tebet, (cioè gennaro); ed era il settimo anno che avea regnato.
17 the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.	17 E vedendo il re Ester così bella, amolla sopra tutte l'altre; ed ebbe grazia e misericordia dinanzi a lui sopra tutte l'altre donne; e puosele la corona del reame in testa, e fecela stare nel luogo di Vasti (cioè della prima regina).
18 Then the king gave a great banquet to all his princes and servants; it was Esther's banquet. He also granted a remission of taxes to the provinces, and gave gifts with royal liberality.	18 E incontanente comandò che fosse fatto uno grande convito, e invitati tutti i signori e baroni e principi, per fare le nozze grandi di Ester; e allora diede riposo in tutte le provincie, e fece molti doni secondo la sua principale magnificenza.
19 When the virgins were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate.	19 Ed essendo un' altra volta cercate le vergini, e si congregassero, Mardocheo stava sempre alla porta del re (per vedere Ester).
20 Now Esther had not made known her kindred or her people, as Mordecai had charged her; for Esther obeyed Mordecai just as when she was brought up by him.	20 Ed ella non avea ancora manifestato la schiatta sua, nè il popolo ond' ella era nata; e questo facea imperò che Mardocheo glie l' avea (detto e) comandato espressamente; (ed ella il temea,) e tutto quello che lui comandava ad Ester, ella il facea come quando ella era fanciulla.
21 And in those days, as Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs, who guarded the threshold, became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.	21 E in quelio tempo che Mardocheo stava alla porta del re, adiraronsi insieme Bagatan e Tares, due eunuchi del re, ed erano i portieri della camera del re; e, infra l' altre parole, si diceano di uccidere il re.
22 And this came to the knowledge of Mordecai, and he told it to Queen Esther, and Esther told the king in the name of Mordecai.	22 E Mardocheo, udendo questo, sì andò alla regina Ester, e dissele queste cose; e lei incontanente il dicesse al re per parte di Mardocheo; ed ella così fece.
23 When the affair was investigated and found to be so, the men were both hanged on the gallows. And it was recorded in the Book of the Chronicles in the presence of the king.	23 E il re incontanente mandò per loro, e trovò che era così come Mardocheo avea detto; e incontanente il re gli fece impiccare per la gola. E fu questo scritto nelli libri annuali con le istorie le quali si servavano nelli depositi del re.
