1 After these things, when the anger of King Ahasuerus had abated, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what had been decreed against her.	1 Passadas assim estas coisas, quando a ira do rei estava já aplacada, lembrou-se ele de Vasti, do que ela tinha feito e do que tinha sofrido.
2 Then the king's servants who attended him said, "Let beautiful young virgins be sought out for the king.	2 Então os servos do rei e os seus ministros disseram: Busquem-se para o rei donzelas virgens e formosas;
3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom to gather all the beautiful young virgins to the harem in Susa the capital, under custody of Hegai the king's eunuch who is in charge of the women; let their ointments be given them.	3 enviem-se por todas as províncias pessoas, que escolham donzelas formosas e virgens, e tragam-nas à cidade de Susa; ponham-se na casa das mulheres, sob o cuidado do eunuco Egeu, que está encarregado de guardar as mulheres do rei, e aprontem-se-lhes todos os seus atavios e tudo o necessário para seu uso.
4 And let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti." This pleased the king, and he did so.	4 Aquela que entre todas mais agradar aos olhos do rei, essa será rainha em lugar de Vasti. Agradou este parecer ao rei, e mandou-lhes que fizessem conforme tinham aconselhado.
5 Now there was a Jew in Susa the capital whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, son of Shime-i, son of Kish, a Benjaminite,	5 Havia na cidade de Susa um homem judeu, chamado Mardoqueu, filho de Jair, filho de Semei, filho de Cis, da linhagem de Benjamim
6 who had been carried away from Jerusalem among the captives carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away.	6 o qual linha sido deportado de Jerusalém naquele tempo em que Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, tinha feito levar para esta cidade a Jeconias, rei de Judá.
7 He had brought up Hadassah, that is Esther, the daughter of his uncle, for she had neither father nor mother; the maiden was beautiful and lovely, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai adopted her as his own daughter.	7 Tinha ele criado Edissa, filha de seu irmão, chamada por outro nome Ester, órfã de pai e mãe; era em extremo formosa e de aspecto gracioso. Depois do falecimento de seu pai e sua mãe, Mardoqueu tínha-a adoptado por filha.
8 So when the king's order and his edict were proclaimed, and when many maidens were gathered in Susa the capital in custody of Hegai, Esther also was taken into the king's palace and put in custody of Hegai who had charge of the women.	8 Tendo-se, pois, publicado por toda a parte o mandato do rei, e levando-se a Susa, segundo a sua ordem, muitas donzelas formosíssimas, que eram entregues ao eunuco Egeu, levaram-lhe também Ester entre as outras donzelas, para ser guardada com as mulheres.
9 And the maiden pleased him and won his favor; and he quickly provided her with her ointments and her portion of food, and with seven chosen maids from the king's palace, and advanced her and her maids to the best place in the harem.	9 Ela agradou-lhe e achou graça aos seus olhos. Ele apressou-se a dar-lhe o necessário ao seu adorno e subsistência, assim como sete donzelas das de melhor parecer da casa do rei (para a servirem), e mandou-a com elas para o melhor aposento da casa das mulheres,
10 Esther had not made known her people or kindred, for Mordecai had charged her not to make it known.	10 Ester não lhe quis descobrir de que terra, nem de que nação era, porque Mardoqueu tinha-lhe ordenado que guardasse nisso um grande segredo.
11 And every day Mordecai walked in front of the court of the harem, to learn how Esther was and how she fared.	11 Ele todos os dias passava diante do vestíbulo da casa, onde estavam guardadas as virgens escolhidas, cuidadoso do estado em que se encontrava Ester, e desejoso de saber o que lhe aconteceria.
12 Now when the turn came for each maiden to go in to King Ahasuerus, after being twelve months under the regulations for the women, since this was the regular period of their beautifying, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and ointments for women	12 Quando chegava o tempo em que cada uma das donzelas, pela sua ordem, devia ser apresentada ao rei, depois de concluídas todas as coisas que correspondiam ao seu adorno, tinham-se passado doze meses, porquanto durante seis meses se ungiam com óleo de mirra, e durante outros seis usavam de certos unguentos e aromas.
13 when the maiden went in to the king in this way she was given whatever she desired to take with her from the harem to the king's palace.	13 No momento de se apresentar ao rei, davam-lhe tudo quanto pedia, ao passar da habitação das mulheres à câmara do rei.
14 In the evening she went, and in the morning she came back to the second harem in custody of Sha-ashgaz the king's eunuch who was in charge of the concubines; she did not go in to the king again, unless the king delighted in her and she was summoned by name.	14 Á que tinha entrado à noite saia pela manhã, e dali era levada a uma outra habitação, que estava ao cuidado do eunuco Susagaz, que tinha a guarda das mulheres secundárias do rei, e não tinha a permissão de voltar de novo ao rei, a não ser que o rei a quisesse e, por seu nome, a mandasse vir.
15 When the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had adopted her as his own daughter, to go in to the king, she asked for nothing except what Hegai the king's eunuch, who had charge of the women, advised. Now Esther found favor in the eyes of all who saw her.	15 Passado, pois, um certo tempo, estava já próximo o dia em que devia ser apresentada ao rei Ester, filha de Abiail, tio de Mardoqueu, a qual este tinha adoptado por filha. Ela não pediu nada, além do que lhe foi entregue pelo eunuco Egeu, que tinha a guarda das donzelas; mas Ester agradou aos olhos de todos os que a viram.
16 And when Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus into his royal palace in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign,	16 Foi, pois, levada à câmara do rei Assuero no décimo mês, chamado Tebet, no sétimo ano do seu reinado.
17 the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.	17 O rei amou-a mais do que a todas as outras mulheres, e ela achou graça e favor diante dele, mais que todas as mulheres; pôs-lhe sobre a cabeça a coroa real e constituiu-a rainha no lugar de Vasti.
18 Then the king gave a great banquet to all his princes and servants; it was Esther's banquet. He also granted a remission of taxes to the provinces, and gave gifts with royal liberality.	18 E ordenou que se preparasse um banquete, magnificentíssimo para todos os seus príncipes e servidores, um banquete em honra de Ester. Concedeu alivio (de alguns tributos) a todas as províncias, e fez donativos dignos da magnificência dum tão grande príncipe.
19 When the virgins were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate.	19 Enquanto pela segunda vez se buscavam e reuniam virgens, Mardoqueu estava (continuamente) junto da porta do rei.
20 Now Esther had not made known her kindred or her people, as Mordecai had charged her; for Esther obeyed Mordecai just as when she was brought up by him.	20 Ester, seguindo a ordem de Mardoqueu, não tinha ainda manifestado a sua pátria e nação. Ester observava tudo o que ele mandava, fazia tudo como costumava fazer, quando, sendo menina, ele a criava.
21 And in those days, as Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs, who guarded the threshold, became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.	21 Naquele tempo, pois, em que Mardoqueu estava à porta do rei, mostraram-se mal contentes Bagalan e Tares, dois eunucos do rei, que eram porteiros, guardas da primeira entrada no palácio, e intentaram levantar-se contra o rei e matá-lo.
22 And this came to the knowledge of Mordecai, and he told it to Queen Esther, and Esther told the king in the name of Mordecai.	22 Isto foi sabido por Mardoqueu, o qual imediatamente deu parte à rainha Ester, e ela ao rei em nome de Mardoqueu, que lha tinha referido.
23 When the affair was investigated and found to be so, the men were both hanged on the gallows. And it was recorded in the Book of the Chronicles in the presence of the king.	23 Fizeram-se as investigações, e averiguou-se ser verdade; ambos foram pendurados numa forca. Isto foi regislado no livro das Crônicas, na presença do rei.
