1 Then Tobias answered him, "Father, I will do everything that you have commanded me;	1 Allora rispose [Tobia] al suo padre, e disse: o padre mio, io farò ciò che tu m' hai comandato.
2 but how can I obtain the money when I do not know the man?"	2 Ma come racquisterò io questa pecunia? Io non soe colui, ed egli non mi conosce (nè io lui); che segnale gli darò io? poi ch' io non so pure la via, onde io vada a lui.
3 Then Tobit gave him the receipt, and said to him, "Find a man to go with you and I will pay him wages as long as I live; and go and get the money."	3 Allora il padre suo sì li rispose, e disse: io hoe appo me la scritta di sua mano; la quale poi che gliela avrai mostrata, incontanente la ti renderà.
4 So he went to look for a man; and he found Raphael, who was an angel,	4 Ma va ora, e cerca per uno uomo fedele che venga teco, pagandolo tu della sua fatica; acciò che insino ch' io vivo, tu l' acquisti.
5 but Tobias did not know it. Tobias said to him, "Can you go with me to Rages in Media? Are you acquainted with that region?"	5 Allora essendo uscito fuori Tobia, trovò uno giovane chiaro, il quale era alzato, e quasi apparecchiato a camminare.
6 The angel replied, "I will go with you; I am familiar with the way, and I have stayed with our brother Gabael."	6 E non sapendo (Tobia) ch' egli fosse l'angiolo di Dio, sì il salutò, e disse: onde se' tu, o buono uomo?
7 Then Tobias said to him, "Wait for me, and I shall tell my father."	7 Ed egli rispose: de' figliuoli d' Israel. E Tobia gli disse: sai tu la via la quale va nella regione de' Medi?
8 And he said to him, "Go, and do not delay." So he went in and said to his father, "I have found some one to go with me." He said, "Call him to me, so that I may learn to what tribe he belongs, and whether he is a reliable man to go with you."	8 Ed egli rispose, e disse di sì; e tutti quelli viaggi ispesso hoe camminato, e sì sono stato con Gabelo nostro fratello che dimora in Rages, cittade de' Medi, la quale è posta nel monte di Ecbatanis.
9 So Tobias invited him in; he entered and they greeted each other.	9 Al quale disse Tobia: deh io ti prego che tu m'aspetti uno poco, insino ch' io lo dica al mio padre.
10 Then Tobit said to him, "My brother, to what tribe and family do you belong? Tell me. "	10 E allora entrò Tobia al suo padre, e narrolli tutte queste cose. Sopra le quali cose maravigliandosi il padre, il pregoe che il menasse a lui.
11 But he answered, "Are you looking for a tribe and a family or for a man whom you will pay to go with your son?" And Tobit said to him, "I should like to know, my brother, your people and your name."	11 Ed entrato, lo salutoe e dissegli: sempre abbi tu allegrezza.
12 He replied, "I am Azarias the son of the great Ananias, one of your relatives."	12 E Tobia disse: quale allegrezza posso io avere, ch' io seggio in tenebre, e non veggio il lume del cielo?
13 Then Tobit said to him, "You are welcome, my brother. Do not be angry with me because I tried to learn your tribe and family. You are a relative of mine, of a good and noble lineage. For I used to know Ananias and Jathan, the sons of the great Shemaiah, when we went together to Jerusalem to worship and offered the first-born of our flocks and the tithes of our produce. They did not go astray in the error of our brethren. My brother, you come of good stock.	13 Al quale disse il giovane: sia d'animo forte, chè tostamente sarai liberato da Dio.
14 But tell me, what wages am I to pay you--a drachma a day, and expenses for yourself as for my son?	14 E Tobia disse: or potrai tu menare il mio figliuolo a Gabelo in Rages cittade de' Medi? E quando tu sarai tornato, io te ne renderò la tua mercede.
15 And besides, I will add to your wages if you both return safe and sound." So they agreed to these terms.	15 E l'angelo disse: io il menerò e rimenerò (sano e salvo).
16 Then he said to Tobias, "Get ready for the journey, and good success to you both." So his son made the preparations for the journey. And his father said to him, "Go with this man; God who dwells in heaven will prosper your way, and may his angel attend you." So they both went out and departed, and the young man's dog was with them.	16 Al quale disse Tobia: io ti prego che tu mi dica, di quale casa tu se', e di quale schiatta.
17 But Anna, his mother, began to weep, and said to Tobit, "Why have you sent our child away? Is he not the staff of our hands as he goes in and out before us?	17 Al quale disse l'angelo Rafaele: di', addimandi tu la generazione del mercenario, ovver il mercenario che vada con lo tuo figliuolo?
18 Do not add money to money, but consider it as rubbish as compared to our child.	18 Ma per non farti pensoso, sappi ch' io sono Azaria, figliuolo del grande Anania.
19 For the life that is given to us by the Lord is enough for us."	19 E Tobia gli rispose: tu sei di grande schiatta; ma io ti prego che non t' adiri, perchè io abbia voluto (sapere e) conoscere la tua nazione.
20 And Tobit said to her, "Do not worry, my sister; he will return safe and sound, and your eyes will see him.	20 E l'angiolo disse: io menerò sano il tuo figliuolo, e sano lo rimeneroe.
21 For a good angel will go with him; his journey will be successful, and he will come back safe and sound." So she stopped weeping.	21 E Tobia disse: bene andate voi, e sia Iddio nel vostro viaggio, e l'angiolo suo v' accompagni.
	22 Allora poi che tutte le cose furono apparecchiate, ch' erano da portare per la via, Tobia prese commiato dal suo padre e dalla sua madre; e andarono amendue insieme.
	23 E quando loro furono andati, la madre incominciò a piagnere, e a dire: ha' ci tu tolto il bastone (e il sostegno) della nostra vecchiezza, e partendolo da noi ha' lo mandato altrove!
	24 Iddio volesse che questa pecunia non fosse mai istata, per la quale tu l' hai mandato!
	25 Assai ci bastava la nostra povertà; sì che noi lo potevamo bene tenere per nostra ricchezza, pur potendo vedere il nostro figliuolo!
	26 E Tobia gli disse: non piagnere, chè il figliuolo nostro tornerà sano e salvo a noi, e i tuoi occhi il vederanno.
	27 Imperciò ch' io credo che l'angiolo di Dio buono l'accompagnerà, e disporrà bene ciò che si farà intorno a lui, sì che con allegrezza si tornerà a noi.
	28 Per questo conforto si rimase la madre sua di piagnere, e istette cheta.
