1 Then Tobias answered him, "Father, I will do everything that you have commanded me;	1 Alors Tobie répondit à son père Tobit: - “Père, je ferai tout ce que tu m’as commandé.
2 but how can I obtain the money when I do not know the man?"	2 Mais comment vais-je récupérer ce dépôt? Gabaël ne me connaît pas et moi je ne le connais pas non plus. Quelle preuve vais-je lui donner pour qu’il me croie et qu’il me remette cet argent? De plus, je ne connais pas la route pour aller en Médie.”
3 Then Tobit gave him the receipt, and said to him, "Find a man to go with you and I will pay him wages as long as I live; and go and get the money."	3 Tobit répondit à son fils Tobie: “Nous avons échangé nos signatures sur un billet et je l’ai coupé en deux pour que nous en gardions chacun la moitié. J’ai pris l’une et j’ai laissé l’autre avec l’argent lorsque j’ai laissé cet argent en dépôt il y a 20 ans. Maintenant, mon enfant, cherche un homme sérieux comme compagnon de voyage: il sera à nos frais jusqu’à ton retour. Ensuite tu iras rechercher cet argent chez Gabaël.”
4 So he went to look for a man; and he found Raphael, who was an angel,	4 Tobie s’en alla donc à la recherche d’un bon guide capable de l’accompagner en Médie. Il rencontra dehors l’ange Raphaël qui venait face à lui, mais il ne savait pas que c’était un ange de Dieu.
5 but Tobias did not know it. Tobias said to him, "Can you go with me to Rages in Media? Are you acquainted with that region?"	5 Il lui dit: “D’où es-tu, mon ami?” L’ange répondit: “Je suis l’un de tes frères israélites et je suis venu chercher du travail par ici.” Tobie lui dit: “Connais-tu la route pour aller en Médie?”
6 The angel replied, "I will go with you; I am familiar with the way, and I have stayed with our brother Gabael."	6 L’ange répondit: “Bien sûr! J’y suis allé plusieurs fois, je connais tous les chemins parfaitement. J’ai été souvent en Médie, je me logeais chez Gabaël, l’un de nos frères qui habite à Rhagès en Médie. Il faut deux jours de marche d’Ekbatane à Rhagès. Rhagès est dans la montagne et Ekbatane au milieu de la plaine.”
7 Then Tobias said to him, "Wait for me, and I shall tell my father."	7 Tobie lui dit: “Attends-moi un instant, que j’aille prévenir mon père. Tu vas venir avec moi et je te paierai tes journées.”
8 And he said to him, "Go, and do not delay." So he went in and said to his father, "I have found some one to go with me." He said, "Call him to me, so that I may learn to what tribe he belongs, and whether he is a reliable man to go with you."	8 L’autre répondit: “Bien, j’attends, mais ne traîne pas!”
9 So Tobias invited him in; he entered and they greeted each other.	9 Tobie alla dire à son père qu’il avait trouvé quelqu’un parmi leurs frères d’Israël. Son père lui dit: “Présente-le moi pour que je m’informe de sa famille et de sa tribu. Il faut voir si l’on peut lui faire confiance pour t’accompagner, mon enfant.” Tobie sortit donc pour l’appeler: “Eh, l’ami, dit-il, mon père te demande.”
10 Then Tobit said to him, "My brother, to what tribe and family do you belong? Tell me. "	10 L’ange entra dans la maison, Tobit salua le premier et l’autre répondit par des souhaits de bonheur. Tobit lui dit: “Puis-je connaître encore le bonheur? Je suis aveugle. Je ne vois plus la lumière du ciel, et je vis plongé dans la nuit comme les morts qui ne voient plus jamais la lumière. Je suis un mort-vivant, j’entends la voix des gens sans les voir.” L’ange lui dit: “Aie confiance. Dieu va bientôt te guérir. Aie confiance.” Tobit lui dit: “Mon fils Tobie veut se rendre en Médie. Acceptes-tu de lui servir de guide? Je te paierai, mon frère.” Il répondit: “Je veux bien l’accompagner, je connais tous les chemins. Je suis souvent allé en Médie, j’ai traversé les plaines et les montagnes, et je connais toutes les pistes.”
11 But he answered, "Are you looking for a tribe and a family or for a man whom you will pay to go with your son?" And Tobit said to him, "I should like to know, my brother, your people and your name."	11 Tobit lui dit: “Mon frère, de quelle famille et de quelle tribu es-tu? Veux-tu bien me le dire, mon frère.”
12 He replied, "I am Azarias the son of the great Ananias, one of your relatives."	12 L’autre demanda: “Qu’importe ma tribu?” Tobit insista: “Je veux savoir bien de qui tu es le fils et quel est ton nom.”
13 Then Tobit said to him, "You are welcome, my brother. Do not be angry with me because I tried to learn your tribe and family. You are a relative of mine, of a good and noble lineage. For I used to know Ananias and Jathan, the sons of the great Shemaiah, when we went together to Jerusalem to worship and offered the first-born of our flocks and the tithes of our produce. They did not go astray in the error of our brethren. My brother, you come of good stock.	13 L’autre répondit: “Je suis Azarias, fils d’Ananias le Grand, l’un de tes frères.”
14 But tell me, what wages am I to pay you--a drachma a day, and expenses for yourself as for my son?	14 Alors Tobit dit: “Sois donc le bienvenu, mon frère, ne te fâche pas si j’ai voulu connaître ta famille. Il se trouve que tu es mon parent de belle et bonne descendance. Je connais Ananias et Natan, les deux fils de Séméias le Grand. Ils venaient avec moi à Jérusalem, nous y avons adoré ensemble et ils n’ont jamais quitté le droit chemin. Tes frères sont des hommes de bien, tu es de bonne famille, sois donc le bienvenu.”
15 And besides, I will add to your wages if you both return safe and sound." So they agreed to these terms.	15 Il ajouta: “Je t’engage pour une drachme par jour, et pour ton entretien tu auras ce que je donne à mon fils. Accompagne donc mon fils,
16 Then he said to Tobias, "Get ready for the journey, and good success to you both." So his son made the preparations for the journey. And his father said to him, "Go with this man; God who dwells in heaven will prosper your way, and may his angel attend you." So they both went out and departed, and the young man's dog was with them.	16 et je dépasserai même le prix fixé.” L’ange répondit: “Je ferai le voyage avec lui, n’aie pas peur: bien au départ, et bien au retour! D’ailleurs la route est sûre.”
17 But Anna, his mother, began to weep, and said to Tobit, "Why have you sent our child away? Is he not the staff of our hands as he goes in and out before us?	17 Tobit lui dit: “Sois béni, mon frère!” Puis il se tourna vers son fils: “Mon enfant, dit-il, prépare ce dont tu as besoin pour le voyage, puis pars avec ton frère. Que le Dieu qui est dans les cieux vous garde là-bas, et qu’il vous ramène en bonne santé auprès de moi. Que son ange vous accompagne de sa protection, mon enfant!” Au moment de quitter la maison pour prendre la route, Tobie embrassa son père et sa mère. Tobit lui dit: “Bon voyage!”
18 Do not add money to money, but consider it as rubbish as compared to our child.	18 mais sa mère pleurait; elle dit à Tobit: “Pourquoi as-tu voulu le départ de mon enfant? N’est-il pas notre bâton de vieillesse, celui qui s’occupe de tout pour nous?
19 For the life that is given to us by the Lord is enough for us."	19 Pourquoi avoir de l’argent? L’argent n’est rien à côté de notre enfant.
20 And Tobit said to her, "Do not worry, my sister; he will return safe and sound, and your eyes will see him.	20 Nous avions bien assez avec ce que Dieu nous donnait pour vivre.”
21 For a good angel will go with him; his journey will be successful, and he will come back safe and sound." So she stopped weeping.	21 Alors Tobit lui dit: “Tu te fais des idées! Notre enfant part en bonne santé et reviendra de même à la maison. Il reviendra en bonne santé, tu le verras! Ne te fais donc pas des idées, ne t’inquiète pas pour eux, ma sœur.
	22 Un bon ange l’accompagnera, il fera bon voyage et il reviendra en bonne santé.”
