1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.	1 Josias avait huit ans à son avènement et il régna 31 ans à Jérusalem.
2 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father; and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.	2 Il fit ce qui est agréable à Yahvé et suivit la conduite de son ancêtre David sans en dévier ni àdroite ni à gauche.
3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherim, and the graven and the molten images.	3 La huitième année de son règne, n'étant encore qu'un jeune homme, il commença àrechercher le Dieu de David son ancêtre. La douzième année de son règne, il commença à purifier Juda etJérusalem des hauts lieux, des pieux sacrés, des idoles sculptées et fondues.
4 And they broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and he hewed down the incense altars which stood above them; and he broke in pieces the Asherim and the graven and the molten images, and he made dust of them and strewed it over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.	4 On démolit devant lui les autels des Baals, il arracha les autels à encens qui étaient placés sureux, il brisa les pieux sacrés, les idoles sculptées et fondues, et les réduisit en une poussière qu'il répandit sur lestombeaux de ceux qui leur avaient offert des sacrifices.
5 He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.	5 Il brûla les ossements des prêtres sur leurs autels et purifia ainsi Juda et Jérusalem.
6 And in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, and as far as Naphtali, in their ruins round about,	6 Dans les villes de Manassé, d'Ephraïm, de Siméon, et même de Nephtali, et dans lesterritoires saccagés qui les entouraient,
7 he broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the images into powder, and hewed down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.	7 il démolit les autels, les pieux sacrés, brisa et pulvérisa les idoles, il abattit les autels à encensdans tout le pays d'Israël, puis il revint à Jérusalem.
8 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Ma-aseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.	8 La dix-huitième année de son règne, dans le but de purifier le pays et le Temple, il envoyaShaphân, fils d'Açalyahu, Maaséyahu, gouverneur de la ville, et Yoah, fils de Yoahaz le héraut, pour réparer leTemple de Yahvé son Dieu.
9 They came to Hilkiah the high priest and delivered the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had collected from Manasseh and Ephraim and from all the remnant of Israel and from all Judah and Benjamin and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	9 Ils allèrent remettre à Hilqiyyahu, le grand prêtre, l'argent qui avait été apporté au Temple deDieu et que les lévites gardiens du seuil avaient recueilli: l'argent provenait de Manassé, d'Ephraïm, de tout lereste d'Israël, ainsi que de tous les Judéens et Benjaminites qui habitaient Jérusalem.
10 They delivered it to the workmen who had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and the workmen who were working in the house of the LORD gave it for repairing and restoring the house.	10 Ils le remirent aux maîtres d'oeuvre attachés au Temple de Yahvé et ceux-ci l'utilisèrentpour les travaux de restauration et de réparation du Temple.
11 They gave it to the carpenters and the builders to buy quarried stone, and timber for binders and beams for the buildings which the kings of Judah had let go to ruin.	11 Ils le donnèrent aux charpentiers et aux ouvriers du bâtiment pour acheter les pierres detaille et le bois nécessaire au chaînage et aux charpentes des bâtiments qu'avaient endommagés les rois de Juda.
12 And the men did the work faithfully. Over them were set Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to have oversight. The Levites, all who were skilful with instruments of music,	12 Ces hommes travaillèrent avec fidélité à cette oeuvre; ils étaient sous la surveillance deYahat et de Obadyahu, lévites des fils de Merari, de Zekarya et de Meshullam, Qehatites contremaîtres, deslévites experts dans les instruments d'accompagnement du chant,
13 were over the burden bearers and directed all who did work in every kind of service; and some of the Levites were scribes, and officials, and gatekeepers.	13 de ceux qui étaient à la tête des transporteurs et de ceux qui dirigeaient tous les maîtresd'oeuvre de chaque service, et enfin de quelques lévites, scribes, greffiers et portiers.
14 While they were bringing out the money that had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the LORD given through Moses.	14 Quand on retira l'argent déposé au Temple de Yahvé, le prêtre Hilqiyyahu trouva le livre dela Loi de Yahvé transmise par Moïse.
15 Then Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, "I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD"; and Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.	15 Hilqiyyahu prit la parole et dit au secrétaire Shaphân: "J'ai trouvé le livre de la Loi dans leTemple de Yahvé." Et Hilqiyyahu donna le livre à Shaphân.
16 Shaphan brought the book to the king, and further reported to the king, "All that was committed to your servants they are doing.	16 Shaphân remit le livre au roi et lui rapporta encore ceci: "Tout ce qui a été confié à tesserviteurs, ils l'exécutent,
17 They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen."	17 ils ont fondu l'argent qui se trouvait dans le Temple de Yahvé et l'ont remis aux mains dessubordonnés et des maîtres d'oeuvre."
18 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." And Shaphan read it before the king.	18 Puis le secrétaire Shaphân annonça au roi: "Le prêtre Hilqiyyahu m'a donné un livre"; etShaphân y fit une lecture devant le roi.
19 When the king heard the words of the law he rent his clothes.	19 En entendant les paroles de la Loi, le roi déchira ses vêtements.
20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,	20 Il donna cet ordre à Hilqiyyahu, à Ahiqam fils de Shaphân, à Abdôn fils de Mika, ausecrétaire Shaphân et à Asaya, ministre du roi:
21 "Go, inquire of the LORD for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book."	21 "Allez consulter Yahvé pour moi et pour ce qui reste d'Israël et de Juda, à propos desparoles du livre qui vient d'être trouvé. Grande doit être la colère de Yahvé qui s'est répandue sur nous parce quenos pères n'ont pas observé la parole de Yahvé en pratiquant tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre."
22 So Hilkiah and those whom the king had sent went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter) and spoke to her to that effect.	22 Hilqiyyahu et les gens du roi se rendirent auprès de la prophétesse Hulda, femme deShallum, fils de Toqhat, fils de Hasra, le gardien des vêtements; elle habitait à Jérusalem dans la ville neuve. Ilslui parlèrent en ce sens
23 And she said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Tell the man who sent you to me,	23 et elle répondit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël. Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyés versmoi:
24 Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book which was read before the king of Judah.	24 Ainsi parle Yahvé. Je vais amener le malheur sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, toutes lesmalédictions écrites dans le livre qu'on a lu devant le roi de Juda,
25 Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out upon this place and will not be quenched.	25 parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et qu'ils ont sacrifié à d'autres dieux pour m'irriter par toutesleurs actions. Ma colère s'est enflammée contre ce lieu, elle ne s'éteindra pas.
26 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words which you have heard,	26 Et vous direz au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés pour consulter Yahvé: Ainsi parle Yahvé,Dieu d'Israël: les paroles que tu as entendues...
27 because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me, and have rent your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the LORD.	27 Mais parce que ton coeur a été touché et que tu t'es humilié devant Dieu en entendant lesparoles qu'il a prononcées contre ce lieu et ses habitants, parce que tu t'es humilié, que tu as déchiré tesvêtements et que tu as pleuré devant moi, moi aussi je t'ai entendu, oracle de Yahvé.
28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place and its inhabitants.'" And they brought back word to the king.	28 Voici que je te réunirai à tes pères, tu seras recueilli en paix dans ton sépulcre, tes yeux neverront pas tous les malheurs que je fais venir sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants." Ils portèrent la réponse au roi.
29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.	29 Alors le roi fit convoquer tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem,
30 And the king went up to the house of the LORD, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites, all the people both great and small; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD.	30 et le roi monta au Temple de Yahvé avec tous les hommes de Juda, les habitants deJérusalem, les prêtres, les lévites et tout le peuple, du plus grand au plus petit. Il lut devant eux tout le contenu dulivre de l'alliance trouvé dans le Temple de Yahvé.
31 And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.	31 Le roi était debout sur l'estrade, et il conclut devant Yahvé l'alliance qui l'obligeait à suivreYahvé, à garder ses commandements, ses instructions et ses lois, de tout son coeur et de toute son âme, et àmettre en pratique les clauses de l'alliance écrites dans ce livre.
32 Then he made all who were present in Jerusalem and in Benjamin stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.	32 Il y fit adhérer quiconque se trouvait à Jérusalem ou dans Benjamin, et les habitants deJérusalem se conformèrent à l'alliance de Dieu, le Dieu de leurs pères.
33 And Josiah took away all the abominations from all the territory that belonged to the people of Israel, and made all who were in Israel serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not turn away from following the LORD the God of their fathers.	33 Josias enleva toute chose abominable de tous les territoires appartenant aux Israélites.Pendant toute sa vie, il mit au service de Yahvé leur Dieu quiconque se trouvait en Israël. Ils ne s'écartèrent pasde Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères.
