1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.	1 Josías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén.
2 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father; and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.	2 Hizo lo que es bueno a los ojos del Señor y siguió los caminos de su padre, David, sin desviarse a derecha ni a izquierda.
3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherim, and the graven and the molten images.	3 El año octavo de su reinado, siendo aún joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de su antepasado David, y el año duodécimo comenzó a purificar Judá y Jerusalén de santuarios paganos, cipos, estelas, estatuas e ídolos.
4 And they broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and he hewed down the incense altars which stood above them; and he broke in pieces the Asherim and the graven and the molten images, and he made dust of them and strewed it over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.	4 Destruyeron en su presencia los altares de los baales, demolió los incensarios que había sobre ellos, rompió los cipos, las estatuas y los ídolos, reduciéndolos a polvo, que esparció sobre los sepulcros de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios.
5 He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.	5 Quemó sobre los altares los huesos de los sacerdotes. Así purificó Judá y Jerusalén.
6 And in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, and as far as Naphtali, in their ruins round about,	6 En las ciudades de Manasés, Efraín, Simeón, y hasta de Neftalí, y en los territorios asolados que las rodeaban,
7 he broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the images into powder, and hewed down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.	7 destruyó los altares, los cipos y las estatuas, los trituró hasta reducirlos a polvo y demolió los incensarios en todo el territorio de Israel. Después regresó a Jerusalén.
8 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Ma-aseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.	8 El año decimoctavo de su reinado, después de haber purificado el país y el templo, mandó a Safán, hijo de Asalías, al gobernador Maasías y al canciller Joaj, hijo de Joacaz, a reparar el templo del Señor, su Dios.
9 They came to Hilkiah the high priest and delivered the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had collected from Manasseh and Ephraim and from all the remnant of Israel and from all Judah and Benjamin and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	9 Ellos se presentaron al sumo sacerdote Jilquías y le entregaron el dinero ingresado en el templo de Dios por las colectas de los porteros levitas en Manasés, Efraín, el resto de Israel, en Judá, Benjamín y entre los habitantes de Jerusalén.
10 They delivered it to the workmen who had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and the workmen who were working in the house of the LORD gave it for repairing and restoring the house.	10 Se lo entregaron a los encargados de las obras del templo del Señor, y los maestros de obras que trabajaban en el templo del Señor dedicaron el dinero a reparar y restaurar el edificio,
11 They gave it to the carpenters and the builders to buy quarried stone, and timber for binders and beams for the buildings which the kings of Judah had let go to ruin.	11 entregándoselo a los carpinteros y albañiles para comprar piedras de cantería, madera para las vigas y el maderamen de los edificios destruidos por los reyes de Judá.
12 And the men did the work faithfully. Over them were set Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to have oversight. The Levites, all who were skilful with instruments of music,	12 Aquellos hombres realizaron su trabajo con honradez. Estaban bajo la vigilancia de Yájat y Abdías, descendientes de Merarí, y de Zacarías y Mesulán, descendientes de Queat, que les dirigían. Los levitas, maestros en tañer instrumentos musicales,
13 were over the burden bearers and directed all who did work in every kind of service; and some of the Levites were scribes, and officials, and gatekeepers.	13 acompañaban a los porteadores y dirigían a todos los obreros, fuese cual fuese su tarea. Entre los levitas había secretarios, notarios y porteros.
14 While they were bringing out the money that had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the LORD given through Moses.	14 Cuando estaban sacando el dinero ingresado en el templo del Señor, el sacerdote Jilquías encontró el libro de la ley del Señor, escrito por Moisés.
15 Then Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, "I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD"; and Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.	15 Entonces Jilquías dijo al secretario Safán: «He encontrado en el templo del Señor el libro de la ley». Y se lo entregó a Safán.
16 Shaphan brought the book to the king, and further reported to the king, "All that was committed to your servants they are doing.	16 Este se lo llevo al rey, cuando fue a darle cuenta del trabajo: «Tus siervos ya han hecho todo los que les mandaste.
17 They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen."	17 Han recogido el dinero ingresado en el templo del Señor y se lo han entregado a los encargados y a los obreros».
18 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." And Shaphan read it before the king.	18 El secretario Safán informó también al rey: «El sacerdote Jilquías me ha dado un libro». Safán lo leyó ante el rey.
19 When the king heard the words of the law he rent his clothes.	19 Cuando este oyó las palabras del libro de la ley, se rasgó los vestidos
20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,	20 y ordenó a Jilquías, a Ajicán, hijo de Safán, a Abdón, hijo de Miqueas, al secretario Safán y al funcionario real Asaías:
21 "Go, inquire of the LORD for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book."	21 «Id a consultar al Señor por mí, por el resto de Israel y por Judá a propósito del contenido del libro encontrado. La ira del Señor que se verterá sobre nosotros ha de ser grande, porque nuestros padres no observaron la palabra del Señor, actuando conforme a todo lo prescrito en este libro».
22 So Hilkiah and those whom the king had sent went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter) and spoke to her to that effect.	22 Jilquías y los designados por el rey fueron a la profetisa Juldá, esposa de Salún, hijo de Tocat, hijo de Jasrá, encargado del vestuario. Vivía ella en Jerusalén, en el Barrio Nuevo. Le expusieron el caso
23 And she said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Tell the man who sent you to me,	23 y ella les respondió: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: Decidle al que os ha enviado:
24 Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book which was read before the king of Judah.	24 “Así dice el Señor: Mira, voy a traer el desastre sobre este lugar y sus habitantes, todas las maldiciones escritas en el libro que habéis leído ante el rey de Judá.
25 Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out upon this place and will not be quenched.	25 Por haberme abandonado y haber quemado incienso a otros dioses, por haberme irritado con las obras de sus manos, arderá mi ira contra este lugar y no se apagará”.
26 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words which you have heard,	26 Al rey de Judá, que os ha enviado para consultar al Señor, decidle: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel, acerca de las palabras que has escuchado:
27 because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me, and have rent your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the LORD.	27 Por tu benevolente corazón, por haberte humillado ante Dios al oír sus palabras contra este lugar y sus habitantes, por humillarte ante mí, haber rasgado tus vestidos y haber llorado ante mí, también yo te escucho —oráculo del Señor—.
28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place and its inhabitants.'" And they brought back word to the king.	28 Cuando te reúnas con tus padres, te sepultarán en paz, sin que tus ojos vean la desgracia que traeré sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes”». Ellos llevaron la respuesta al rey.
29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.	29 Este mandó convocar a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.
30 And the king went up to the house of the LORD, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites, all the people both great and small; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD.	30 El rey subió al templo del Señor, acompañado de todos los de Judá, los habitantes de Jerusalén, los sacerdotes, los levitas y todo el pueblo —grandes y pequeños—, y les leyó todo el libro de la ley encontrado en el templo del Señor.
31 And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.	31 El rey, puesto en pie sobre su estrado, selló una alianza ante el Señor, comprometiéndose a seguir al Señor y a observar sus mandamientos, normas y preceptos con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, poniendo en práctica las cláusulas de la alianza escritas en este libro.
32 Then he made all who were present in Jerusalem and in Benjamin stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.	32 Se la impuso a todos los que se encontraban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín. Los habitantes de Jerusalén actuaron conforme a la alianza de Dios, el Dios de sus padres.
33 And Josiah took away all the abominations from all the territory that belonged to the people of Israel, and made all who were in Israel serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not turn away from following the LORD the God of their fathers.	33 Josías suprimió las abominaciones que había en todos los territorios de los hijos de Israel, y obligó a todos los que se encontraban en Jerusalén a servir al Señor, su Dios. Mientras él vivió, no se apartaron del Señor, Dios de sus padres.
