1 Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.	1 Giòsafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con loro nella città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ioram.
2 He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Judah.	2 I suoi fratelli, figli di Giòsafat, erano Azaria, Iechièl, Zaccaria, Azariau, Michele e Sefatia; tutti costoro erano figli di Giòsafat re di Israele.
3 Their father gave them great gifts, of silver, gold, and valuable possessions, together with fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the first-born.	3 Il padre aveva dato loro ricchi doni: argento, oro e oggetti preziosi insieme con fortezze in Giuda; il regno però l'aveva assegnato a Ioram, perché era il primogenito.
4 When Jehoram had ascended the throne of his father and was established, he slew all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel.	4 Ioram prese in possesso il regno di suo padre e quando si fu rafforzato, uccise di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e, con loro, anche alcuni ufficiali di Israele.
5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.	5 Quando divenne re, Ioram aveva trentadue anni; regnò in Gerusalemme otto anni.
6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done; for the daughter of Ahab was his wife. And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD.	6 Seguì la strada dei re di Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab, perché sua moglie era figlia di Acab. Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore,
7 Yet the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant which he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons for ever.	7 ma il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide a causa dell'alleanza che aveva conclusa con Davide e della promessa fattagli di lasciargli sempre una lampada, per lui e per i suoi figli.
8 In his days Edom revolted from the rule of Judah, and set up a king of their own.	8 Durante il suo regno Edom si ribellò a Giuda e si elesse un re.
9 Then Jehoram passed over with his commanders and all his chariots, and he rose by night and smote the Edomites who had surrounded him and his chariot commanders.	9 Ioram con i suoi ufficiali e con tutti i carri passò la frontiera e, assalendoli di notte, sconfisse gli Idumei che l'avevano accerchiato, insieme con gli ufficiali dei suoi carri.
10 So Edom revolted from the rule of Judah to this day. At that time Libnah also revolted from his rule, because he had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.	10 Ma Edom, ribellatosi a Giuda, ancora oggi è indipendente. In quel tempo anche Libna si ribellò al suo dominio, perché Ioram aveva abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri.
11 Moreover he made high places in the hill country of Judah, and led the inhabitants of Jerusalem into unfaithfulness, and made Judah go astray.	11 Egli inoltre eresse alture nelle città di Giuda, spinse alla idolatria gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e fece traviare Giuda.
12 And a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, "Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, 'Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, or in the ways of Asa king of Judah,	12 Gli giunse da parte del profeta Elia uno scritto che diceva: "Dice il Signore, Dio di Davide tuo padre: Perché non hai seguito la condotta di Giòsafat tuo padre, né la condotta di Asa re di Giuda,
13 but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into unfaithfulness, as the house of Ahab led Israel into unfaithfulness, and also you have killed your brothers, of your father's house, who were better than yourself;	13 ma hai seguito piuttosto la condotta dei re di Israele, hai spinto alla idolatria Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, come ha fatto la casa di Acab, e inoltre hai ucciso i tuoi fratelli, cioè la famiglia di tuo padre, uomini migliori di te,
14 behold, the LORD will bring a great plague on your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions,	14 ecco, il Signore farà cadere un grave disastro sul tuo popolo, sui tuoi figli, sulle tue mogli e su tutti i tuoi beni.
15 and you yourself will have a severe sickness with a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the disease, day by day.'"	15 Tu soffrirai gravi malattie, una malattia intestinale tale che per essa le tue viscere ti usciranno nel giro di due anni".
16 And the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the anger of the Philistines and of the Arabs who are near the Ethiopians;	16 Il Signore risvegliò contro Ioram l'ostilità dei Filistei e degli Arabi che abitano al fianco degli Etiopi.
17 and they came up against Judah, and invaded it, and carried away all the possessions they found that belonged to the king's house, and also his sons and his wives, so that no son was left to him except Jehoahaz, his youngest son.	17 Costoro attaccarono Giuda, vi penetrarono e razziarono tutti i beni della reggia, asportando anche i figli e le mogli del re. Non gli rimase nessun figlio, se non Ioacaz il più piccolo.
18 And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.	18 Dopo tutto questo, il Signore lo colpì con una malattia intestinale inguaribile.
19 In course of time, at the end of two years, his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great agony. His people made no fire in his honor, like the fires made for his fathers.	19 Andò avanti per più di un anno; verso la fine del secondo anno, gli uscirono le viscere per la gravità della malattia e così morì fra dolori atroci. E per lui il popolo non bruciò aromi, come si erano bruciati per i suoi padri.
20 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem; and he departed with no one's regret. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.	20 Quando divenne re, egli aveva trentadue anni; regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme. Se ne andò senza lasciare rimpianti; lo seppellirono nella città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.
