1 After this the Moabites and Ammonites, and with them some of the Me-unites, came against Jehoshaphat for battle.	1 Después de un tiempo, los moabitas y los amonitas, junto con algunos amonitas, fueron a combatir contra Josafat.
2 Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, "A great multitude is coming against you from Edom, from beyond the sea; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar" (that is, En-gedi).	2 Entonces informaron a Josafat, diciéndole: «Una gran multitud, procedente de Edom, avanza contra ti desde el otro lado del mar, y ya están en Jasasón Tamar, es decir, en Engadí.
3 Then Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.	3 Josafat, muy atemorizado, decidió consultar al Señor y proclamó un ayuno en todo Judá.
4 And Judah assembled to seek help from the LORD; from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.	4 Judá se reunió para implorar al Señor, y acudió gente de todas las ciudades.
5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,	5 Entonces Josafat se puso de pie en medio de la asamblea de Judá y de Jerusalén, en la Casa del Señor, delante del atrio nuevo,
6 and said, "O LORD, God of our fathers, art thou not God in heaven? Dost thou not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? In thy hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee.	6 y dijo: «Señor, Dios de nuestros padres, ¿acaso no eres tú el Dios del cielo y el que dominas a todos los reinos de las naciones? ¿No están en tu mano la fuerza y el poder, sin que nadie pueda resistirte?
7 Didst thou not, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and give it for ever to the descendants of Abraham thy friend?	7 ¿No has sido tú, Dios nuestro, el que expulsaste a los habitantes de esta tierra delante de tu pueblo Israel, y se la entregaste para siempre a los descendientes de tu amigo Abraham?
8 And they have dwelt in it, and have built thee in it a sanctuary for thy name, saying,	8 Ellos la han habitado y han edificado un Santuario para tu Nombre, diciendo:
9 'If evil comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house, and before thee, for thy name is in this house, and cry to thee in our affliction, and thou wilt hear and save.'	9 «Si nos sobreviene alguna desgracia –la espada, el castigo, la peste o el hambre– nos presentaremos delante de esta Casa y delante de ti, porque tu Nombre reside en ella; te invocaremos den nuestra angustia, y tú oirás y nos salvarás».
10 And now behold, the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy--	10 Mira ahora a los amonitas, a los moabitas y a los de las montañas de Seír: tú no permitiste que Israel entrara en sus tierras cuando salía de Egipto, y por eso él se apartó de ellos y no los destruyó.
11 behold, they reward us by coming to drive us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.	11 Ahora ellos nos pagan viniendo a expulsarnos de tu propiedad, la que tú nos has dado en posesión.
12 O our God, wilt thou not execute judgment upon them? For we are powerless against this great multitude that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon thee."	12 Dios nuestro, ¿no harás justicia contra ellos? Porque nosotros no tenemos fuera contra esta gran multitud que viene a atacarnos, y no sabemos qué hacer. Pero nuestros ojos están puestos en ti».
13 Meanwhile all the men of Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.	13 Todo Judá permanecía de pie delante del Señor, con sus niños, sus mujeres y sus hijos.
14 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Je-iel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly.	14 Entonces el espíritu del Señor descendió sobre Iajaziel, hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Benaías, hijo de Ieiel, hijo de Matanías, uno de los levitas de los hijos de Asaf, que estaba en medio de la asamblea.
15 And he said, "Hearken, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, 'Fear not, and be not dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours but Gods.	15 Y él dijo: «¡Presten atención, todo Judá, todos ustedes, habitantes de Jerusalén, y tú, rey Josafat! Así les habla el Señor: No teman ni se acobarden ante esa gran muchedumbre, porque esta guerra no es de ustedes sino de Dios.
16 Tomorrow go down against them; behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz; you will find them at the end of the valley, east of the wilderness of Jeruel.	16 Bajen a atacarlos mañana: ellos suben por la cuesta de Sis y ustedes los encontrarán al extremo del valle, frente al desierto de Ieruel.
17 You will not need to fight in this battle; take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.' Fear not, and be not dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you."	17 No tendrán necesidad de combatir en esta ocasión: deténganse allí sin moverse y verán la salvación que el Señor les tienen preparada. ¡No teman ni se acobarden, Judá y Jerusalén! Salgan mañana a enfrentarse con ellos, porque el Señor estará con ustedes».
18 Then Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD.	18 Josafat se postró con el rostro en tierra; y todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén se postraron ante el Señor para adorarlo.
19 And the Levites, of the Kohathites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.	19 Y los levitas del grupo de los descendientes de Quehat y de los descendientes de Coré se levantaron para alabar en alta voz al Señor, el Dios de Israel.
20 And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be established; believe his prophets, and you will succeed."	20 Al día siguiente, muy de madrugada, salieron hacia el desierto de Técoa. Mientras salían, Josafat se puso de pie y dijo: «¡Escuche, Judá y habitantes de Jerusalén! Tengan confianza en el Señor, nuestro Dios, y estarán seguros; confíen en sus profetas y triunfarán».
21 And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the LORD and praise him in holy array, as they went before the army, and say, "Give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures for ever."	21 Después de consultar al pueblo, designó a unos cantores, para que avanzaran al frente de los guerreros, revestidos con los ornamentos sagrados y alabaran al Señor, diciendo: «¡Alaben al Señor, porque es eterno su amor!».
22 And when they began to sing and praise, the LORD set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed.	22 En el momento en que ellos comenzaron las aclamaciones y las alabanzas, el Señor sembró la discordia entre los amonitas, los moabitas y los de las montañas de Seír que había venido a invadir a Judá, y se batieron entre sí.
23 For the men of Ammon and Moab rose against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, destroying them utterly, and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they all helped to destroy one another.	23 Los amonitas y los moabitas se levantaron contra los habitantes de las montañas de Seír, para consagrarlos al exterminio total y aniquilarlos, y cuando acabaron con los habitantes de Seír, se destruyeron mutuamente.
24 When Judah came to the watchtower of the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies lying on the ground; none had escaped.	24 Cuando los hombres de Judá llegaron a la cima que domina el desierto y volvieron sus ojos hacia la multitud, no vieron más que cadáveres tendidos por tierra, porque ninguno había podido escapar.
25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take the spoil from them, they found cattle in great numbers, goods, clothing, and precious things, which they took for themselves until they could carry no more. They were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much.	25 Josafat y su pueblo fueron a saquear los despojos y encontraron mucho ganado, provisiones, ropa y objetos preciosos: fue tanto lo que recogieron que no se lo podían llevar. Emplearon tres días en saquear el botín, porque era muy abundante.
26 On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, for there they blessed the LORD; therefore the name of that place has been called the Valley of Beracah to this day.	26 Al cuarto día se reunieron en el valle de la Bendición, donde bendijeron al Señor; por eso se dio a este lugar el nombre de valle de la Bendición hasta el día de hoy.
27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, returning to Jerusalem with joy, for the LORD had made them rejoice over their enemies.	27 Después, todos los hombres de Judá y de Jerusalén, con Josafat a la cabeza, regresaron jubilosamente a Jerusalén, porque el Señor los había hecho triunfar sobre sus enemigos.
28 They came to Jerusalem, with harps and lyres and trumpets, to the house of the LORD.	28 Entraron en Jerusalén, en la Casa del Señor, al son de arpas, cítaras y trompetas.
29 And the fear of God came on all the kingdoms of the countries when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.	29 El terror de Dios se apoderó de los reyes de todos los países, cuando estos se enteraron de que el Señor había combatido contra los enemigos de Israel.
30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest round about.	30 El reinado de Josafat gozó de tranquilidad, y su Dios le dio paz por todas partes.
31 Thus Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.	31 Josafat reinó sobre Judá. Tenía treinta y cinco años cuando inició su reinado, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Azubá, hija de Siljí.
32 He walked in the way of Asa his father and did not turn aside from it; he did what was right in the sight of the LORD.	32 Siguió en todo el camino de su padre Asá y no se apartó de él, haciendo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor.
33 The high places, however, were not taken away; the people had not yet set their hearts upon the God of their fathers.	33 Sin embargo, no desaparecieron los lugares altos y el pueblo aún no se había entregado de corazón al Dios de sus padres.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, from first to last, are written in the chronicles of Jehu the son of Hanani, which are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel.	34 El resto de los hechos de Josafat, desde el comienzo hasta el fin, están escritos en las Memoras de Jehú, hijo de Jananí, que se encuentran incluidas en el Libro de los reyes de Israel.
35 After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did wickedly.	35 Después de esto, Josafat, rey de Judá, se alió con Ocozías, rey de Israel, aunque este procedía mal.
36 He joined him in building ships to go to Tarshish, and they built the ships in Ezion-geber.	36 Se asoció con él para construir barcos que fueran a Tarsis, y los fabricaron en Esión Guéber.
37 Then Eliezer the son of Do-davahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, "Because you have joined with Ahaziah, the LORD will destroy what you have made." And the ships were wrecked and were not able to go to Tarshish.	37 Entonces Eliezer, hijo de Dodaías, de Maresá, profetizó contra Josafat diciendo: «Por haberte aliado con Ocozías, el Señor abrió una brecha en tus obras». En efecto, los barcos naufragaron y no pudieron ir a Tarsis.
