1 Then all Israel gathered together to David at Hebron, and said, "Behold, we are your bone and flesh.	1 - Allora tutto Israele si riunì intorno a Davide in Ebron e disse: «Noi siamo le tue ossa e la tua carne.
2 In times past, even when Saul was king, it was you that led out and brought in Israel; and the LORD your God said to you, 'You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over my people Israel.'"	2 Anche ieri e nei tempi andati quando regnava ancora Saul, eri tu quegli che conducevi e riconducevi Israele, perchè il Signore Dio tuo ti aveva detto: - Tu pascerai il mio popolo Israele, e tu sarai il suo principe -».
3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.	3 Vennero adunque tutti gli anziani d'Israele dal re in Ebron, e Davide fece con essi un patto dinanzi al Signore, ed essi lo unsero re sopra Israele, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detto per mezzo di Samuele.
4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, that is Jebus, where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.	4 Andò allora Davide e tutto Israele a Gerusalemme, vale a dire a Jebus, dove stavano i Jebusei abitanti del paese.
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You will not come in here." Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.	5 Quelli che abitavano in Jebus dissero a Davide: «Tu non entrerai qua». Ma Davide prese la rocca di Sion, che è la città di Davide,
6 David said, "Whoever shall smite the Jebusites first shall be chief and commander." And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became chief.	6 e disse: «Chiunque percuoterà per il primo i Jebusei, sarà principe e duce». Joab, figlio di Sarvia, salì per il primo e divenne principe.
7 And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David.	7 Davide poi abitò nella fortezza, la quale perciò venne chiamata città di Davide.
8 And he built the city round about from the Millo in complete circuit; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.	8 Egli edificò la città tutt'intorno da Mello fino al recinto. Joab poi fabbricò l'altra parte della città.
9 And David became greater and greater, for the LORD of hosts was with him.	9 Davide faceva continui progressi e il Signore degli eserciti era con lui.
10 Now these are the chiefs of David's mighty men, who gave him strong support in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.	10 Ecco i principi degli uomini forti di Davide, che lo aiutarono a farsi re sopra tutto Israele secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detto ad Israele;
11 This is an account of David's mighty men: Jashobe-am, a Hachmonite, was chief of the three; he wielded his spear against three hundred whom he slew at one time.	11 e questo è il numero dei valorosi di Davide: Jesbaam, figlio di Acamoni, principe fra i trenta; egli impugnò la sua lancia contro trecento, che ferì in un solo scontro.
12 And next to him among the three mighty men was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite.	12 E dopo di lui Eleazaro, figlio di suo zio, di Aoi, uno dei tre più forti.
13 He was with David at Pas-dammim when the Philistines were gathered there for battle. There was a plot of ground full of barley, and the men fled from the Philistines.	13 Questi fu con Davide in Fesdomim, quando i Filistei si erano riuniti in quel luogo per combattere. Vi era in quella regione un campo, tutto pieno di orzo e il popolo era fuggito dinanzi ai Filistei.
14 But he took his stand in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great victory.	14 Essi stettero in mezzo al campo e lo difesero e avendo battuto i Filistei, il Signore operò una liberazione grande nel suo popolo.
15 Three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David at the cave of Adullam, when the army of Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim.	15 Tre fra i trenta capi erano discesi alla roccia, dove stava Davide, presso la spelonca di Odollam, mentre i Filistei si erano accampati nella valle di Rafaim.
16 David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Philistines was then at Bethlehem.	16 Davide era allora nella fortezza e in Betleem trovavasi una guarnigione di Filistei.
17 And David said longingly, "O that some one would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem which is by the gate!"	17 Davide ebbe un desiderio, e disse: «Oh, se qualcuno mi desse dell'acqua della cisterna di Betleem, che è vicina alla porta!».
18 Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and took and brought it to David. But David would not drink of it; he poured it out to the LORD,	18 Questi tre adunque attraversarono il campo dei Filistei, attinsero l'acqua della cisterna, che era vicino alla porta di Betleem e la portarono a Davide per bere; il quale però non la volle, ma ne fece libazione al Signore,
19 and said, "Far be it from me before my God that I should do this. Shall I drink the lifeblood of these men? For at the risk of their lives they brought it." Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.	19 dicendo: «Non sia mai che alla presenza del mio Dio faccia questa cosa e beva il sangue di questi uomini, i quali con pericolo della loro vita andarono a prendermi quest'acqua». E perciò non volle berne. Tanto fecero questi tre valorosissimi.
20 Now Abishai, the brother of Joab, was chief of the thirty. And he wielded his spear against three hundred men and slew them, and won a name beside the three.	20 Anche Abisai, fratello di Joab, era il primo dei tre; egli impugnò la lancia contro trecento uomini, e li uccise; anch'egli era celebratissimo fra i tre.
21 He was the most renowned of the thirty, and became their commander; but he did not attain to the three.	21 Egli era il più considerato fra i tre della seconda serie ed era il loro capo, ma non arrivò mai ad essere uno dei tre primi.
22 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man of Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds; he smote two ariels of Moab. He also went down and slew a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen.	22 Banaia, figlio di Joiada, uomo robustissimo, che operò molte gesta, era di Cabseel. Egli distrusse i due Ariel di Moab, e discese e uccise un leone in una cisterna al tempo della neve.
23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits tall. The Egyptian had in his hand a spear like a weaver's beam; but Benaiah went down to him with a staff, and snatched the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.	23 Percosse ancora un uomo egiziano, la cui statura era di cinque cubiti e aveva una lancia come un subbio di tessitore. Egli discese contro di lui con un bastone, gli strappò la lancia, che aveva in mano e l'uccise colla sua stessa lancia.
24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and won a name beside the three mighty men.	24 Queste cose ebbe a fare Banaia, figlio di Joiada, il quale era il più rinomato fra i tre valenti;
25 He was renowned among the thirty, but he did not attain to the three. And David set him over his bodyguard.	25 era il primo fra i trenta, benchè non sia arrivato alla gloria dei tre. Davide l'aveva fatto suo consigliere.
26 The mighty men of the armies were Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,	26 I più forti uomini dell'esercito furono: Asael fratello di Joab, Elcanan figlio del suo zio di Betleem,
27 Shammoth of Harod, Helez the Pelonite,	27 Sammot Arorita, Elles Falonita,
28 Ira the son of Ikkesh of Tekoa, Abi-ezer of Anathoth,	28 Ira figlio di Acces di Tecua, Abiezer di Anatot,
29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,	29 Sobbocai Usatita, Ilai di Aoi,
