1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.	1 - Josia aveva otto anni quando cominciò a regnare e regnò trentun anno in Gerusalemme. Sua madre ebbe nome Idida, figliuola di Adaia di Besecat.
2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.	2 Fece quanto piaceva al Signore e camminò per tutte le vie di Davide suo padre, non piegando nè a destra nè a sinistra.
3 In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the secretary, to the house of the LORD, saying,	3 Nell'anno decimottavo del re Josia, il re mandò Safan figliuolo di Aslia figlio di Messula, scriba del tempio del Signore, e gli disse:
4 "Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may reckon the amount of the money which has been brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the threshold have collected from the people;	4 «Va' dal gran sacerdote Elcia e digli che metta insieme tutto il denaro, che venne portato nel tempio del Signore e che fu raccolto dai portieri del tempio dalle mani del popolo,
5 and let it be given into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the LORD; and let them give it to the workmen who are at the house of the LORD, repairing the house,	5 affinchè sia dato agli artefici da coloro che sono preposti alla casa del Signore. Costoro lo distribuiscano a quelli che lavorano nel tempio del Signore a farne le debite riparazioni,
6 that is, to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, as well as for buying timber and quarried stone to repair the house.	6 cioè ai carpentieri, ai muratori e a quelli che riparano le brecce, perchè si comperino legname e pietre dai tagliapietra per riparare il tempio del Signore.
7 But no accounting shall be asked from them for the money which is delivered into their hand, for they deal honestly."	7 Tuttavia non si conti il denaro che viene loro somministrato, ma lo maneggino liberamente e con coscienza».
8 And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, "I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD." And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.	8 Il pontefice Elcia così rispose allo scriba Safan: «Ho trovato nella casa del Signore il libro della Legge». Ed Elcia diede il volume a Safan, il quale pure lo lesse.
9 And Shaphan the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, "Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the LORD."	9 Venne poi lo scriba Safan dal re e gli annunziò tutto quanto era stato comandato e disse: «I tuoi servi hanno messo insieme il danaro da loro trovato nella casa del Signore e lo diedero da distribuirsi agli artefici per mezzo di quelli che sono preposti alle opere del tempio del Signore».
10 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." And Shaphan read it before the king.	10 Riferì ancora lo scriba Safan al re, dicendo: «Il sacerdote Elcia mi ha dato un libro». E avendolo letto Safan dinanzi al re,
11 And when the king heard the words of the book of the law, he rent his clothes.	11 e avendo il re udito le parole della Legge del Signore, si stracciò le vesti,
12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,	12 e comandò al sacerdote Elcia e ad Aicam figlio di Safan e ad Acobor figlio di Mica e a Safan scriba e ad Asaia servo del re, dicendo:
13 "Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us."	13 «Andate a consultare il Signore per me, per il popolo e per tutto Giuda a proposito delle parole di questo volume che venne trovato, poichè la collera del Signore deve essersi accesa grandemente contro di noi, per non aver i padri nostri ascoltato le parole di questo libro e per non aver fatto quanto vi è scritto per noi».
14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter); and they talked with her.	14 Il sacerdote Elcia, Aicam, Acobor, Safan e Asaia andarono allora dalla profetessa Olda, moglie di Sellum, figlio di Tecua, figlio di Araas, custode delle vesti, la quale abitava in Gerusalemme nel secondo quartiere della città, e le parlarono;
15 And she said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Tell the man who sent you to me,	15 essa rispose a loro: «Il Signore Dio d'Israele dice così: - Riferite all'uomo che vi mandò da me:
16 Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.	16 Così parla il Signore: Io farò venire sopra questo luogo, e sopra gli abitanti suoi tutti i mali indicati dalle parole della Legge, che venne letta dal re di Giuda;
17 Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.	17 poichè essi hanno abbandonato me, hanno sacrificato agli dèi stranieri, irritandomi con tutte le loro azioni, e il mio sdegno si accenderà contro questo luogo e non si estinguerà .
18 But as to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words which you have heard,	18 Al re di Giuda poi che vi mandò a consultare il Signore, direte così: Questo dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Perchè hai udito le parole di questo volume
19 because your heart was penitent, and you humbled yourself before the LORD, when you heard how I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have rent your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the LORD.	19 e fu conturbato il cuor tuo e ti umiliasti dinanzi al Signore, all'udire le parole contro questo luogo e i suoi abitatori, che cioè sarebbero divenuti un oggetto di spavento e di maledizione e perchè tu ti stracciasti le vesti e piangesti dinanzi a me, io pure ti ho ascoltato, dice il Signore,
20 Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place.'" And they brought back word to the king.	20 e perciò ti raccoglierò coi tuoi padri e scenderai in pace nel tuo sepolcro, senza che gli occhi tuoi veggano tutti i mali che io farò venire sopra questo luogo-».
