1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers' houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.	1 Allora Salomone convocò tutti gli anziani di Israele, tutti i capitribù e i principi delle casate dei figli di Israele perché, venuti a Gerusalemme dal re Salomone, facessero salire l’arca dell’alleanza di Jahvè dalla città di David, cioè da Sion.
2 And all the men of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.	2 Quindi tutti gli uomini di Israele si radunarono presso il re Salomone per la festa della luna di Etanim, che è il settimo mese.
3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.	3 Venuti dunque tutti gli anziani di Israele, i sacerdoti presero l’arca
4 And they brought up the ark of the LORD, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up.	4 e trasportarono l’arca di Jahvè, la Tenda del convegno e tutte le suppellettili del santuario, che erano nella Tenda. Le trasportarono i sacerdoti e i Leviti.
5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.	5 Il re Salomone e tutta la comunità di Israele, che era convenuta presso di lui, davanti all’arca, immolavano bestiame minuto e grosso, innumerevole e inestimabile per la quantità.
6 Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place, in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the most holy place, underneath the wings of the cherubim.	6 I sacerdoti portarono l’arca dell’alleanza di Jahvè al suo posto, nella cella del tempio, cioè nel Santo dei Santi, sotto le ali dei Cherubini.
7 For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim made a covering above the ark and its poles.	7 I Cherubini infatti stendevano le ali sul luogo dell’arca e ricoprivano dall’alto l’arca con le stanghe.
8 And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside; and they are there to this day.	8 Queste erano così lunghe che le loro estremità erano visibili dall’aula, di fronte alla cella; non si potevano però vedere di fuori. Sono rimaste là fino a oggi.
9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.	9 Nell’arca non c’era nulla, tranne le due tavole di pietra, che Mosè vi aveva posto sull’Horeb, cioè le tavole dell’alleanza, che Jahvè aveva stabilito con i figli di Israele, quando uscirono dalla terra d’Egitto.
10 And when the priests came out of the holy place, a cloud filled the house of the LORD,	10 Allora, mentre i sacerdoti uscivano dall’aula, ecco la nuvola riempire il tempio di Jahvè,
11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.	11 così che i sacerdoti non poterono rimanervi a compiere il loro ministero per la presenza della nuvola, poiché la gloria di Jahvè aveva riempito il tempio.
12 Then Solomon said, "The LORD has set the sun in the heavens, but has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.	12 Allora Salomone parlò: «Jahvè ha fatto splendere il sole nel cielo, ma ha voluto abitare nella densa nube;
13 I have built thee an exalted house, a place for thee to dwell in for ever."	13 perciò io ti ho edificato un’eccelsa dimora, un luogo per la tua residenza perpetua. ° Come sta scritto nel libro del Giusto!»
14 Then the king faced about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood.	14 Poi il re si voltò, benedisse tutta l’assemblea di Israele, mentre questa stava in piedi,
15 And he said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying,	15 e cominciò: «Benedetto è Jahvè Dio di Israele, il quale ha parlato con la bocca a David mio padre e ha compiuto con la mano quanto ha detto:
16 'Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city in all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.'	16 “Dal giorno in cui feci uscire il mio popolo Israele dall’Egitto, non ho scelto nessuna città fra tutte le tribù di Israele per edificare un tempio, dove risieda il mio nome; ho scelto però Gerusalemme, perché vi dimori il mio nome e ho scelto David, perché fosse capo del mio popolo Israele”.
17 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.	17 Ora David mio padre aveva intenzione di edificare un tempio al nome di Jahvè, Dio di Israele.
18 But the LORD said to David my father, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart;	18 Ma Jahvè gli disse: “Buona è l’intenzione di costruire un tempio al mio nome;
19 nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.'	19 tu però non costruirai il tempio, ma il figlio, che discenderà dai tuoi lombi, edificherà il tempio al mio nome”.
20 Now the LORD has fulfilled his promise which he made; for I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and I have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.	20 Jahvè ha dunque realizzato la promessa che aveva pronunciato: io sono successo a David mio padre, mi sono seduto sul trono di Israele secondo la promessa di Jahvè e così ho edificato il tempio al nome di Jahvè, Dio di Israele.
21 And there I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt."	21 Ivi ho assegnato un posto per l’arca, dove sta l’alleanza che Jahvè ha stretto con i nostri padri, quando li fece uscire dalla terra d’Egitto».
22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;	22 Salomone quindi, in piedi innanzi all’altare di Jahvè, di fronte a tutta l’assemblea di Israele, stese’le mani verso il cielo
23 and said, "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to thy servants who walk before thee with all their heart;	23 e disse: «Jahvè, Dio di Israele, non c’è Dio come te né lassù nei cieli né quaggiù sulla terra! Tu mantieni l’alleanza e la benevolenza verso i tuoi servitori, che camminano con tutto il cuore alla tua presenza;
24 who hast kept with thy servant David my father what thou didst declare to him; yea, thou didst speak with thy mouth, and with thy hand hast fulfilled it this day.	24 tu hai mantenuto al tuo servitore David mio padre la promessa che gli avevi fatto e oggi hai realizzato con la mano quanto ai proferito con la bocca!
25 Now therefore, O LORD, God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father what thou hast promised him, saying, 'There shall never fail you a man before me to sit upon the throne of Israel, if only your sons take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.'	25 Ora dunque, Jahvè Dio di Israele, mantieni al tuo servitore David mio padre quanto ancora hai promesso dicendo: ‘ Dalla mia presenza non sarà eliminato tra i tuoi chi sieda sul trono di Israele, purché i tuoi figli mantengano la loro condotta e camminino alla mia presenza, come tu hai camminato alla mia presenza”.
26 Now therefore, O God of Israel, let thy word be confirmed, which thou hast spoken to thy servant David my father.	26 Orbene, Jahvè Dio di Israele, si avveri la parola ‘che hai dato al tuo servitore David mio padre.
27 "But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!	27 Ma davvero Dio abita, sulla terra? Ecco: i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non ti possono contenere, come lo potrà questo tempio che ho costruito?
28 Yet have regard to the prayer of thy servant and to his supplication, O LORD my God, hearkening to the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prays before thee this day;	28 Tu però ti volgerai propizio alla preghiera del tuo servitore e alla supplica, Jahvè mio Dio, Ascolta il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servitore oggi innalza al tuo cospetto.
29 that thy eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which thou hast said, 'My name shall be there,' that thou mayest hearken to the prayer which thy servant offers toward this place.	29 I tuoi occhi siano aperti notte e giorno su questo tempio, sul luogo di cui tu hai detto: “Lì sarà il mio nome”, per ascoltare la preghiera che ti innalza il tuo servitore in questo luogo.
30 And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant and of thy people Israel, when they pray toward this place; yea, hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place; and when thou hearest, forgive.	30 Tu udrai certamente la supplica del tuo servitore e del tuo popolo Israele, quando pregherannò in questo luogo; tu allora, udendo dal luogo in cui abiti, nei cieli, ascolta e perdona!
31 "If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and comes and swears his oath before thine altar in this house,	31 Se qualcuno avrà peccato contro il suo prossimo e, poiché gli fu imposto un giuramento di maledizione, si presenterà innanzi al tuo altare, in questo tempio, per giurare,
32 then hear thou in heaven, and act, and judge thy servants, condemning the guilty by bringing his conduct upon his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.	32 tu ascolta dal cielo e fa’ giustizia con i tuoi servitori, così da condannare l’empio, facendo ricadere sul suo capo il suo misfatto, e da dichiarare giusto l’innocente, rendendogli secondo la sua innocenza.
33 "When thy people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against thee, if they turn again to thee, and acknowledge thy name, and pray and make supplication to thee in this house;	33 Quando il tuo popolo, battuto dal nemico perché ha peccato contro di te, farà ritorno a te e loderà il tuo nome, ti pregherà e supplicherà in questo tempio,
34 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again to the land which thou gavest to their fathers.	34 tu ascolta dal cielo e perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele, riconducendolo sul suolo che hai concesso ai suoi padri.
35 "When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against thee, if they pray toward this place, and acknowledge thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them,	35 Quando il cielo sarà chiuso e senza pioggia, perché hanno peccato contro di te, ed essi ti pregheranno in questo luogo e loderanno il tuo nome e, spinti dal tuo castigo, abbandoneranno i loro peccati,
36 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, thy people Israel, when thou dost teach them the good way in which they should walk; and grant rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people as an inheritance.	36 tu ascolta dal cielo, perdona il peccato dei tuoi servitori e del tuo popolo Israele, insegnando loro la buona via per cui dovranno camminare, e concedi la pioggia sulla terra che hai concesso in eredità al tuo popolo.
37 "If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besieges them in any of their cities; whatever plague, whatever sickness there is;	37 Quando la carestia, la peste, il carbonchio, la ruggine, le locuste e i bruchi piomberanno sul paese, mentre il nemico gli stringerà d assedio una delle porte e scoppierà un flagello o un’epidemia qualsiasi,
38 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by any man or by all thy people Israel, each knowing the affliction of his own heart and stretching out his hands toward this house;	38 se uno qualunque o l’intero tuo popolo Israele innalzerà una preghiera o una supplica, conscio dell’afflizione del proprio cuore, e stenderà le palme verso questo tempio,
39 then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and render to each whose heart thou knowest, according to all his ways (for thou, thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men);	39 tu ascolta dal cielo, dal luogo in cui abiti; perdona e agisci, rendendo a ciascuno secondo le sue azioni, tu che ne conosci il cuore, A te solo infatti è noto il cuore di tutti i figli dell’uomo.
40 that they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest to our fathers.	40 Così essi ti temeranno per tutti i giorni che vivranno sulla faccia della terra che tu hai assegnato ai nostri padri.
41 "Likewise when a foreigner, who is not of thy people Israel, comes from a far country for thy name's sake	41 Perfino lo straniero, che non appartiene al tuo popolo Israele, quando verrà ‘da una terra lontana a causa del tuo nome — 42 si udrà infatti parlare del tuo grande nome e della tua mano forte e del tuo braccio teso — quando verrà per pregare in questo tempio,
42 (for they shall hear of thy great name, and thy mighty hand, and of thy outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this house,	42 si udrà infatti parlare del tuo grande nome e della tua mano forte e del tuo braccio teso — quando verrà per pregare in questo tempio,
43 hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to thee; in order that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name and fear thee, as do thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.	43 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora, e concedi quanto lo straniero ti chiederà: così tutti i popoli della terra conosceranno il tuo nome, ti temeranno come il tuo popolo Israele e sapranno che il tuo nome è stato invocato su questo tempio che io ho edificato!
44 "If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way thou shalt send them, and they pray to the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen and the house which I have built for thy name,	44 Se il tuo popolo andrà in guerra contro i suoi nemici, seguendo le vie per cui tulo hai mandato, e pregherà Jahvè in direzione della città che tu hai scelto e del tempio che ho costruito al tuo nome,
45 then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.	45 tu ascolta dal cielo la sua preghiera e la sua supplica e rendi giustizia.
46 "If they sin against thee--for there is no man who does not sin--and thou art angry with them, and dost give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near;	46 Se peccheranno contro di te — non c’è infatti uomo che non pecchi — e tu, adirato contro di loro, li avrai messi in potere del nemico e i loro deportatori li deporteranno nel paese del nemico, lontano o vicino;
47 yet if they lay it to heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to thee in the land of their captors, saying, 'We have sinned, and have acted perversely and wickedly';	47 se rientreranno in se stessi nella terra dove furono deportati
48 if they repent with all their mind and with all their heart in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray to thee toward their land, which thou gavest to their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;	48 e, convertendosi, ti supplicheranno nella terra della loro schiavitù, esclamando: “Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo operato iniquamente, abbiamo agito da empi!”; e ritornando a te con tutto il cuore e con tutta l’anima nel paese dei loro deportatori ti pregheranno in direzione della terra che tu hai dato ai loro padri, della città che ti sei scelto e del tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,
49 then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause	49 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua abitazione, la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e rendi loro giustizia.
50 and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions which they have committed against thee; and grant them compassion in the sight of those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them	50 Perdona al tuo popolo, che ha peccato contro di te, tutte le ribellioni che ha ordito contro di te, e fagli trovare compassione innanzi ai suoi deportatori, affinché costoro ne abbiano pietà.
51 (for they are thy people, and thy heritage, which thou didst bring out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace).	51 Essi sono il tuo popolo e la tua eredità, coloro che tu hai fatto uscire dall’Egitto, dal crogiuolo!
52 Let thy eyes be open to the supplication of thy servant, and to the supplication of thy people Israel, giving ear to them whenever they call to thee.	52 I tuoi occhi siano aperti alla supplica del tuo servitore e alla supplica del tuo popolo Israele, per accordare loro quanto ti hanno chiesto,
53 For thou didst separate them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be thy heritage, as thou didst declare through Moses, thy servant, when thou didst bring our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD."	53 poiché tu li hai separati da tutti i popoli della terra quale tua eredità, come hai detto per mezzo di Mosè tuo servitore, quando tu hai fatto uscire dall’Egitto i nostri padri, o Signore Jahvè».
54 Now as Solomon finished offering all this prayer and supplication to the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, where he had knelt with hands outstretched toward heaven;	54 Ora, quando Salomone ebbe finito tutta questa preghiera e supplica a Jahvè, si alzò davanti all’altare di Jahvè; stava infatti piegato sulle ginocchia con le mani tese verso il cielo.
55 and he stood, and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,	55 In piedi, benedisse tutta l’assemblea di Israele a voce alta:
56 "Blessed be the LORD who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised; not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he uttered by Moses his servant.	56 «Benedetto Jahvè, che ha dato riposo al suo popolo Israele, come aveva detto. Neppure una parola di ogni bella promessa, che aveva fatto per mezzo di Mosè suo servitore, è caduta per terra!
57 The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers; may he not leave us or forsake us;	57 Jahvè nostro Dio sia con noi come fu con i nostri padri; non ci lasci né ci rigetti;
58 that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our fathers.	58 ma attiri i nostri cuori a sé perché camminino in tutte le sue vie e custodiscano gli ordini, le leggi e gli statuti, che ha prescritto ai nostri padri.
59 Let these words of mine, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires;	59 Queste parole, con cui ho supplicato Jahvè, siano presenti a Jahvè nostro Dio, giorno e notte; così egli ogni giorno renderà giustizia al suo servitore e al suo popolo Israele.
60 that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God; there is no other.	60 Allora tutti i popoli della terra sapranno che Jahvè è Dio e nessun altro;
61 Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the LORD our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day."	61 il vostro cuore sarà tutto dedito a Jahvè nostro Dio, per camminare secondo i suoi statuti e per osservare i suoi comandamenti, come oggi».
62 Then the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD.	62 Quindi Salomone e tutto Israele con lui offrirono sacrifici innanzi a Jahvè.
63 Solomon offered as peace offerings to the LORD twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.	63 Salomone immolò come sacrifici pacifici che offrì a Jahvè ventiduemila buoi e centoventimila pecore. Così il re e tutti i figli di Israele dedicarono il tempio di Jahvè.
64 The same day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD; for there he offered the burnt offering and the cereal offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before the LORD was too small to receive the burnt offering and the cereal offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings.	64 In quel giorno il re consacrò il centro del cortile, che sta di fronte al tempio di Jahvè, poiché lì egli offrì l’olocausto, l’oblazione e le parti grasse dei sacrifici pacifici, perché l’altare di bronzo, che è davanti a Jahvè, era troppo piccolo per contenere l’olocausto, l’oblazione e le parti grasse dei sacrifici pacifici.
65 So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days.	65 Salomone in quel tempo celebrò la festa; insieme con lui innanzi a Jahvè nostro Dio per sette giorni ci fu tutto Israele, un’assemblea grandiosa, proveniente dall’ingresso di Hamat fino al torrente d’Egitto.
66 On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king, and went to their homes joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had shown to David his servant and to Israel his people.	66 L’ottavo giorno, congedò il popolo; questo benedisse il re e ritornò alle proprie tende, lieto e contento nel proprio cuore per tutto il bene che Jahvè aveva elargito a David suo servitore e a Israele suo popolo.
