1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, when he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father; for Hiram always loved David.	1 Oltre a ciò Hiram re di Tiro man­dò suoi ambasciadori a Salomone, avendo udito com' egli era stato unto re in luogo del padre suo: conciossiachè Hiram era stato in ogni tempo amico di Davidde.
2 And Solomon sent word to Hiram,	2 E Salomone mandò i suoi ad Hiram, e gli fece dire:
3 "You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the warfare with which his enemies surrounded him, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.	3 E a te noto il desiderio di Davidde mio padre, e come egli non potè edifi­care la casa al nome del Signore Dio suo a motivo delle guerre, che egli so­stenne da tutte le parti, fino a tanto che il Signore abbattè a' piedi di lui i ne­mici.
4 But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor misfortune.	4 Adesso poi il Signore Dio mio mi ha data pace da ogni parte, e non havvi avversario, nè accidente sinistro.
5 And so I purpose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD said to David my father, 'Your son, whom I will set upon your throne in your place, shall build the house for my name.'	5 Per la qual cosa io ho in animo di fabbricare un tempio al nome del Signore Dio mio, conforme il Signore or­inò a Davidde mio padre, dicendo: Il tuo figliuolo, cui io surrogherò a te nel tuo trono, egli fabbricherà la casa al nome mio.
6 Now therefore command that cedars of Lebanon be cut for me; and my servants will join your servants, and I will pay you for your servants such wages as you set; for you know that there is no one among us who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians."	6 Ordina adunque, che i tuoi servi taglino per me dei cedri del Libano, e i miei servi saranno insieme co' tuoi servi, e ti pagherò pel salario de' tuoi servi tutto quello, che domanderai: pe­rocché tu ben sai, che non v'ha alcuno del popol mio, che sappia tagliare il legname, come sanno quei di Sidone.
7 When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, "Blessed be the LORD this day, who has given to David a wise son to be over this great people."	7 Avendo adunque sentito Hiram le parole di Salomone, ne ebbe gran pia­cere, e disse: Benedetto sia oggi il Si­gnore Dio, il quale ha dato a Davidde un figliuolo sapientissimo, per reggere un popolo così numeroso.
8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, "I have heard the message which you have sent to me; I am ready to do all you desire in the matter of cedar and cypress timber.	8 E Hiram mandò a dire a Salomone: Ho inteso tutto quello, che tu mi do­mandi: io farò tutto quel, che tu vuoi riguardo ai legnami di cedro, e di abete.
9 My servants shall bring it down to the sea from Lebanon; and I will make it into rafts to go by sea to the place you direct, and I will have them broken up there, and you shall receive it; and you shall meet my wishes by providing food for my household."	9 I miei servi li porteranno dal Li­bano al mare: e io ne farò formare delle fodere sul mare, per trasmettergli al luogo, che tu mi additerai: e ivi fi farò posare: e tu li farai ritirare: e mi darai quello, che mi bisogna pel vitto della mia casa.
10 So Hiram supplied Solomon with all the timber of cedar and cypress that he desired,	10 Hiram pertanto dava a Salomone del legname di cedro, e di abete quanto ei ne voleva.
11 while Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat as food for his household, and twenty thousand cors of beaten oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year.	11 E Salomone dava ad Hiram venti mila cori di grano pel mantenimento della sua casa e venti cori d'olio finissimo: tutto questo dava Salomone ad Hiram anno per anno.
12 And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and the two of them made a treaty.	12 E il Signore diede a Salomone la saggezza, conforme gli avea promesso: ed era pace tra Hiram, e Salomone, e fecero tra di loro alleanza.
13 King Solomon raised a levy of forced labor out of all Israel; and the levy numbered thirty thousand men.	13 E il re Salomone scelse degli ope­rai da tutto Israele, e furono comandati trenta mila uomini.
14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month in relays; they would be a month in Lebanon and two months at home; Adoniram was in charge of the levy.	14 E mandavagli al Libano a vicen­da, dieci mila ogni mese: talmente che per due mesi se ne stavano alle case loro: e Adoniram era preposto a questa comandata.
15 Solomon also had seventy thousand burden-bearers and eighty thousand hewers of stone in the hill country,	15 E avea Salomone settanta mila uomini, che portavano i pesi, e ottanta mila scarpellini sulla montagna:
16 besides Solomon's three thousand three hundred chief officers who were over the work, who had charge of the people who carried on the work.	16 Senza contare quelli, che presede­vano a' varj lavori, in numero di tre mila trecento, i quali dirigevano la gente, e i lavoratori.
17 At the king's command, they quarried out great, costly stones in order to lay the foundation of the house with dressed stones.	17 E il re comandò, che si prendes­sero pietre grandi, pietre di pregio pe' fondamenti del tempio, e le riquadras­sero:
18 So Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the men of Gebal did the hewing and prepared the timber and the stone to build the house.	18 E le tagliarono gli scarpellini di Salomone, e quelli di Hiram: e quelli di Giblos lavorarono il legname, e le pietre per la fabbrica della casa.
