1 Now King David was old and advanced in years, and although they covered him with clothes, he could not get warm.	1 El rey David estaba viejo, muy avanzado en años, y por más que lo abrigaban no entraba en calor.
2 Therefore his servants said to him, "Let a young maiden be sought for my lord the king, and let her wait upon the king, and be his nurse; let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may be warm."	2 Sus servidores le dijeron: «Sería conveniente buscarle al rey, mi señor, una jovencita: ella estará al servicio del rey y cuidará de él; dormirá entre sus brazos, y así mi señor, el rey, entrará en calor».
3 So they sought for a beautiful maiden throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.	3 Entonces buscaron por todo el territorio de Israel una joven hermosa; encontraron a Abisag, la sunamita, y se la llevaron al rey.
4 The maiden was very beautiful; and she became the king's nurse and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.	4 La joven, que era muy hermosa, cuidaba al rey y estaba a su servicio. Pero el rey no se unió a ella.
5 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king"; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.	5 Mientras tanto, Adonías, hijo de Jaguit, se ufanaba diciendo: «Yo seré el rey». 11 Then Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, "Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king and David our lord does not know it?	11 Entonces Natán dijo a Betsabé, la madre de Salomón: «¿No te has enterado de que Adonías, el hijo de Jaguit, se ha proclamado rey sin que nuestro señor David lo sepa?
12 Now therefore come, let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.	12 Ahora bien, te voy a dar un consejo para que salves tu vida y la de tu hijo Salomón.
13 Go in at once to King David, and say to him, 'Did you not, my lord the king, swear to your maidservant, saying, "Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne"? Why then is Adonijah king?'	13 Ve a presentarte ante el rey y dile: Rey, mi señor, tú mismo has hecho este juramento a tu servidora: «Salomón, tu hijo, reinará después de mí y se sentará en mi trono». ¿Por qué entonces Adonías se ha proclamado rey?
14 Then while you are still speaking with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm your words."	14 Y cuando todavía estés allí, hablando con el rey, yo entraré detrás de ti y confirmaré tus palabras».
15 So Bathsheba went to the king into his chamber (now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king).	15 Betsabé se presentó ante el rey en su habitación privada. El rey estaba muy viejo y Abisag, la sunamita, lo servía.
16 Bathsheba bowed and did obeisance to the king, and the king said, "What do you desire?"	16 Betsabé se inclinó profundamente ante el rey, y este le preguntó: «¿Qué quieres?».
17 She said to him, "My lord, you swore to your maidservant by the LORD your God, saying, 'Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.'	17 Ella le dijo: «Mi señor, tú mismo has hecho a tu servidora este juramento, por el Señor, tu Dios: «Tu hijo Salomón reinará después de mí y se sentará en mi trono».
18 And now, behold, Adonijah is king, although you, my lord the king, do not know it.	18 Pero ahora Adonías se ha proclamado rey, sin que tú, mi señor el rey, lo sepas.
19 He has sacrificed oxen, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army; but Solomon your servant he has not invited.	19 El ha sacrificado una gran cantidad de bueyes, de terneros cebados y de corderos, y ha invitado a todos los hijos del rey, al sacerdote Abiatar, y a Joab, el jefe del ejército. Pero no ha invitado a tu hijo Salomón.
20 And now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you, to tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.	20 Por eso, todo Israel tiene los ojos puestos en ti, para que le anuncies quién debe sentarse en el trono de mi señor el rey, después de él.
21 Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted offenders."	21 De lo contrario, cuando mi señor el rey se vaya a descansar con sus padres, yo y mi hijo Salomón correremos la suerte de los culpables».
22 While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.	22 Todavía estaba hablando con el rey, cuando llegó el profeta Natán.
23 And they told the king, "Here is Nathan the prophet." And when he came in before the king, he bowed before the king, with his face to the ground.	23 Le anunciaron al rey: «Está aquí el profeta Natán». El se presentó al rey y se postró delante de él con el rostro en tierra.
24 And Nathan said, "My lord the king, have you said, 'Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?	24 Luego dijo Natán: «Mi señor el rey, sin duda tú has dicho: «Adonías reinará después de mí y se sentará en mi trono».
25 For he has gone down this day, and has sacrificed oxen, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons, Joab the commander of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, 'Long live King Adonijah!'	25 Porque hoy bajó a sacrificar una gran cantidad de bueyes, de terneros cebados y de corderos, e invitó a todos los hijos del rey, a los jefes del ejército y al sacerdote Abiatar. Ahora están comiendo y bebiendo delante de él, y lo han aclamado: ¡Viva el rey Adonías!
26 But me, your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon, he has not invited.	26 Pero a mí, que soy tu servidor, al sacerdote Sadoc, a Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, y a tu servidor Salomón, no nos ha invitado.
27 Has this thing been brought about by my lord the king and you have not told your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?"	27 Tal vez esta decisión provenga de mi señor el rey, sin que tú hayas querido hacer saber a tus servidores quién se sentaría en el trono de mi señor el rey, después de él».
28 Then King David answered, "Call Bathsheba to me." So she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.	28 Entonces el rey David tomó la palabra y dijo: «Llámenme a Betsabé». Ella se presentó al rey y se quedó de pie delante de él.
29 And the king swore, saying, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of every adversity,	29 Y el rey juró, diciendo: «¡Por la vida del Señor, que me ha librado de todo peligro,
30 as I swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel, saying, 'Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead'; even so will I do this day."	30 hoy mismo daré cumplimiento a lo que te he jurado por el Señor, el Dios de Israel, cuando dije: Tu hijo Salomón reinará después de mí y se sentará en mi trono en lugar mío!».
31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and did obeisance to the king, and said, "May my lord King David live for ever!"	31 Betsabé se inclinó con el rostro en tierra y se postró delante del rey. Luego exclamó: «¡Viva para siempre mi señor el rey David!».
32 King David said, "Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada." So they came before the king.	32 El rey David dijo: «Llámenme al sacerdote Sadoc, al profeta Natán y a Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá». Ellos se presentaron ante el rey,
33 And the king said to them, "Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon;	33 y él les ordenó: «Tomen con ustedes a los servidores de su señor, monten a mi hijo Salomón en mi propia mula y háganlo bajar a Guijón.
34 and let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet there anoint him king over Israel; then blow the trumpet, and say, 'Long live King Solomon!'	34 Allí, el sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán lo ungirán rey de Israel; ustedes sonarán la trompeta y lo aclamarán: ¡Viva el rey Salomón!
35 You shall then come up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead; and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah."	35 Luego volverán a subir detrás de él, y él vendrá a sentarse en mi trono y reinará en mi lugar: yo lo he constituido jefe de Israel y de Judá».
36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, "Amen! May the LORD, the God of my lord the king, say so.	36 Entonces Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, respondió al rey: «¡Amén! Así lo haga el Señor, el Dios de mi señor el rey.
37 As the LORD has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David."	37 Como el señor estuvo con mi señor el rey, esté también con Salomón y engrandezca su trono más aún que el trono de mi señor el rey David».
38 So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down and caused Solomon to ride on King David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.	38 El sacerdote Sadoc, el profeta Natán, Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, los quereteos y los peleteos bajaron, montaron a Salomón en la mula del rey David y lo llevaron a Guijón.
39 There Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tent, and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, "Long live King Solomon!"	39 El sacerdote tomó de la Carpa el cuerno de aceite y ungió a Salomón. Entonces sonó la trompeta y todo el pueblo exclamó: ¡Viva el rey Salomón!
40 And all the people went up after him, playing on pipes, and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth was split by their noise.	40 Después, todo el pueblo volvió a subir detrás de él, al son de las flautas y dando tales señales de alegría, que la tierra parecía estallar bajo sus gritos.
41 Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they finished feasting. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, "What does this uproar in the city mean?"	41 Adonías y los invitados que estaban con él oyeron el ruido cuando terminaban de comer. 42 While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said, "Come in, for you are a worthy man and bring good news."	42 Todavía estaba hablando, cuando llegó Jonatán, el hijo del sacerdote Abiatar. 44 and the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride on the king's mule;	44 El rey envió con él al sacerdote Sadoc, al profeta Natán, a Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, a los quereteos y a los peleteos, y ellos lo hicieron montar en la mula del rey.
45 and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have gone up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. 46 Solomon sits upon the royal throne.	46 Además, Salomón se ha sentado en el trono real,
47 Moreover the king's servants came to congratulate our lord King David, saying, 'Your God make the name of Solomon more famous than yours, and make his throne greater than your throne.' And the king bowed himself upon the bed.	47 y también los servidores del rey fueron a felicitar a nuestro señor el rey David, diciendo: «Que tu Dios haga el nombre de Salomón más ilustre que el tuyo y engrandezca su trono más que el tuyo». El rey, en su lecho, hizo un gesto de asentimiento,
48 And the king also said, 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has granted one of my offspring to sit on my throne this day, my own eyes seeing it.'"	48 y también pronunció estas palabras: «¡Bendito sea el Señor, el Dios de Israel, porque ha permitido hoy que un hombre de mi descendencia esté sentado en mi trono, y que lo vean mis ojos!».
49 Then all the guests of Adonijah trembled, and rose, and each went his own way.	49 Llenos de pánico, todos los invitados de Adonías se levantaron y se fueron cada uno por su lado.
50 And Adonijah feared Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold of the horns of the altar.	50 Adonías, por su parte, tuvo miedo de Salomón, se levantó y fue a agarrarse de los cuernos del altar.
51 And it was told Solomon, "Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon; for, lo, he has laid hold of the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not slay his servant with the sword.'"	51 Entonces le avisaron a Salomón: «Adonías tiene miedo de ti y se ha agarrado de los cuernos del altar, diciendo: «Que el rey Salomón me jure primero que no hará morir a su servidor por la espada».
52 And Solomon said, "If he prove to be a worthy man, not one of his hairs shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die."	52 El rey dijo: «Si se comporta como un hombre de bien, ni uno solo de sus cabellos caerá por tierra; pero si es sorprendido en falta, morirá».
53 So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and did obeisance to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, "Go to your house."	53 Salomón mandó que lo bajaran del altar. Adonías fue a postrarse ante el rey, y Salomón le dijo: «Vete a tu casa».
