1 When Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, heard that Abner had died at Hebron, his courage failed, and all Israel was dismayed.	1 - Avendo Isboset figliuolo di Saul udito che Abner era morto in Ebron, si sentì cadere le braccia e tutto Israele ne restò sbigottito.
2 Now Saul's son had two men who were captains of raiding bands; the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, sons of Rimmon a man of Benjamin from Be-eroth (for Be-eroth also is reckoned to Benjamin;	2 Il figlio di Saul aveva due capi di banditi, di cui uno si chiamava Baana e l'altro Recab, figli di Remmon Berotita, della tribù di Beniamino; perchè anche Berot era considerata come appartenente alla tribù di Beniamino.
3 the Be-erothites fled to Gittaim, and have been sojourners there to this day).	3 Quei di Berot però si erano rifugiati in Getaim e lì eran rimasti come forestieri fino a quel giorno.
4 Jonathan, the son of Saul, had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up, and fled; and, as she fled in her haste, he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.	4 Gionata poi figlio di Saul aveva un figliuolo storpiato de' piedi, il quale era in età di cinque anni quando giunse da Jezrael la notizia [della morte] di Saul e di Gionata. La nutrice lo prese e fuggì; ma nella fretta della fuga [il bimbo] era caduto e rimasto zoppo. Si chiamava Mifiboset.
5 Now the sons of Rimmon the Be-erothite, Rechab and Baanah, set out, and about the heat of the day they came to the house of Ish-bosheth, as he was taking his noonday rest.	5 Andarono adunque i figli di Remmon di Berot, Recab e Baana ed entrarono nelle ore più calde del giorno in casa di Isboset, il quale era coricato per il solito riposo del meriggio. Anche la portinaia della casa, che stava vagliando il grano, si era addormentata.
6 And behold, the doorkeeper of the house had been cleaning wheat, but she grew drowsy and slept; so Rechab and Baanah his brother slipped in.	6 Entrati pertanto Recab e Baana suo fratello di soppiatto nella casa, quasi per prendere spighe di grano, ferirono Isboset all'inguine e fuggirono.
7 When they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him. They took his head, and went by the way of the Arabah all night,	7 Essi gli erano entrati in casa mentre egli dormiva sul suo letto in camera e ferendolo l'avevano ucciso e spiccatogli il capo se ne erano andati camminando tutta la notte per la via del deserto.
8 and brought the head of Ish-bosheth to David at Hebron. And they said to the king, "Here is the head of Ish-bosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life; the LORD has avenged my lord the king this day on Saul and on his offspring."	8 Avendo poi portato il capo di Isboset a Davide in Ebron, dissero al re: «Ecco il capo di Isboset figlio di Saul tuo nemico, il quale cercava di toglierti la vita. Il Signore si prese per il re, mio signore, vendetta di Saul e della discendenza di lui».
9 But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Be-erothite, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life out of every adversity,	9 Ma Davide, rispondendo a Recab ed a Baana suo fratello figliuoli di Remmon di Berot, disse: «Viva il Signore, che liberò la mia vita da ogni angustia!
10 when one told me, 'Behold, Saul is dead,' and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and slew him at Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.	10 Se colui che credendo darci una buona novella mi aveva annunziato e detto: - Saul è morto, - invece della ricompensa che si aspettava per la notizia, fu da me preso e fatto uccidere in Siceleg;
11 How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous man in his own house upon his bed, shall I not now require his blood at your hand, and destroy you from the earth?"	11 quanto più adesso che uomini scellerati assassinarono un innocente, in sua casa, sul suo letto, non dovrò io chiedere il suo sangue dalle vostre mani e levarvi dal mondo?».
12 And David commanded his young men, and they killed them, and cut off their hands and feet, and hanged them beside the pool at Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the tomb of Abner at Hebron.	12 Davide diede l'ordine allora ai suoi uomini, i quali li uccisero e, tagliate loro le mani e i piedi, li appiccarono sopra la piscina in Ebron; mentre presa la testa di Isboset la seppellirono nel sepolcro di Abner in Ebron.
