1 Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the LORD. And the LORD said, "There is bloodguilt on Saul and on his house, because he put the Gibeonites to death."	1 Al tempo di Davide ci fu una carestia per tre anni; Davide cercò il volto del Signore e il Signore gli disse: "Su Saul e sulla sua casa pesa un fatto di sangue, perché egli ha fatto morire i Gabaoniti".
2 So the king called the Gibeonites. Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had sought to slay them in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.	2 Allora il re chiamò i Gabaoniti e parlò loro. I Gabaoniti non erano del numero degli Israeliti, ma un resto degli Amorrei, e gli Israeliti avevano giurato loro; Saul però, nel suo zelo per gli Israeliti e per quelli di Giuda, aveva cercato di sterminarli.
3 And David said to the Gibeonites, "What shall I do for you? And how shall I make expiation, that you may bless the heritage of the LORD?"	3 Davide disse ai Gabaoniti: "Che devo fare per voi? In che modo espierò, perché voi benediciate l'eredità del Signore?".
4 The Gibeonites said to him, "It is not a matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel." And he said, "What do you say that I shall do for you?"	4 I Gabaoniti gli risposero: "Fra noi e Saul e la sua casa non è questione d'argento o d'oro, né ci riguarda l'uccidere qualcuno in Israele". Il re disse: "Quello che voi direte io lo farò per voi".
5 They said to the king, "The man who consumed us and planned to destroy us, so that we should have no place in all the territory of Israel,	5 Quelli risposero al re: "Di quell'uomo che ci ha distrutti e aveva fatto il piano di sterminarci, perché più non sopravvivessimo entro alcun confine d'Israele,
6 let seven of his sons be given to us, so that we may hang them up before the LORD at Gibeon on the mountain of the LORD." And the king said, "I will give them."	6 ci siano consegnati sette uomini tra i suoi figli e noi li impiccheremo davanti al Signore in Gàbaon, sul monte del Signore". Il re disse: "Ve li consegnerò".
7 But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul's son Jonathan, because of the oath of the LORD which was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.	7 Il re risparmiò Merib-Bàal figlio di Giònata, figlio di Saul, per il giuramento che Davide e Giònata, figlio di Saul, si erano fatto davanti al Signore;
8 The king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Merab the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adri-el the son of Barzillai the Meholathite;	8 ma il re prese i due figli che Rizpà figlia di Aià aveva partoriti a Saul, Armonì e Merib-Bàal e i cinque figli che Meràb figlia di Saul aveva partoriti ad Adrièl il Mecolatita figlio di Barzillài.
9 and he gave them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the mountain before the LORD, and the seven of them perished together. They were put to death in the first days of harvest, at the beginning of barley harvest.	9 Li consegnò ai Gabaoniti, che li impiccarono sul monte, davanti al Signore. Tutti e sette perirono insieme. Furono messi a morte nei primi giorni della mietitura, quando si cominciava a mietere l'orzo.
10 Then Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until rain fell upon them from the heavens; and she did not allow the birds of the air to come upon them by day, or the beasts of the field by night.	10 Allora Rizpà, figlia di Aià, prese il mantello di sacco e lo tese, fissandolo alla roccia, e stette là dal principio della mietitura dell'orzo finché dal cielo non cadde su di loro la pioggia. Essa non permise agli uccelli del cielo di posarsi su di essi di giorno e alle bestie selvatiche di accostarsi di notte.
11 When David was told what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done,	11 Fu riferito a Davide quello che Rizpà, figlia di Aià, concubina di Saul, aveva fatto.
12 David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the men of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the public square of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, on the day the Philistines killed Saul on Gilboa;	12 Davide andò a prendere le ossa di Saul e quelle di Giònata suo figlio presso i cittadini di Iabès di Gàlaad, i quali le avevano portate via dalla piazza di Beisan, dove i Filistei avevano appeso i cadaveri quando avevano sconfitto Saul sul Gelboe.
13 and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan; and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged.	13 Egli riportò le ossa di Saul e quelle di Giònata suo figlio; poi si raccolsero anche le ossa di quelli che erano stati impiccati.
14 And they buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father; and they did all that the king commanded. And after that God heeded supplications for the land.	14 Le ossa di Saul e di Giònata suo figlio, come anche le ossa degli impiccati furono sepolte nel paese di Beniamino a Zela, nel sepolcro di Kis, padre di Saul; fu fatto quanto il re aveva ordinato. Dopo, Dio si mostrò placato verso il paese.
15 The Philistines had war again with Israel, and David went down together with his servants, and they fought against the Philistines; and David grew weary.	15 I Filistei mossero di nuovo guerra ad Israele e Davide scese con i suoi sudditi a combattere contro i Filistei. Davide era stanco
16 And Ishbi-benob, one of the descendants of the giants, whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of bronze, and who was girded with a new sword, thought to kill David.	16 e Isbi-Benòb, uno dei figli di Rafa, che aveva una lancia del peso di trecento sicli di rame ed era cinto di una spada nuova, manifestò il proposito di uccidere Davide;
17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid, and attacked the Philistine and killed him. Then David's men adjured him, "You shall no more go out with us to battle, lest you quench the lamp of Israel."	17 ma Abisài, figlio di Zeruià, venne in aiuto al re, colpì il Filisteo e lo uccise. Allora i ministri di Davide gli giurarono: "Tu non uscirai più con noi a combattere e non spegnerai la lampada d'Israele".
18 After this there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Saph, who was one of the descendants of the giants.	18 Dopo, ci fu un'altra battaglia contro i Filistei, a Gob; allora Sibbecài il Cusatita uccise Saf, uno dei figli di Rafa.
19 And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, the Bethlehemite, slew Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.	19 Ci fu un'altra battaglia contro i Filistei a Gob; Elcanàn, figlio di Iair di Betlemme, uccise il fratello di Golia di Gat: l'asta della sua lancia era come un subbio di tessitori.
20 And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also was descended from the giants.	20 Ci fu un'altra battaglia a Gat, dove si trovò un uomo di grande statura, che aveva sei dita per mano e per piede, in tutto ventiquattro dita: anch'egli era nato a Rafa.
21 And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shime-i, David's brother, slew him.	21 Costui insultò Israele, ma lo uccise Giònata, figlio di Simeà, fratello di Davide.
22 These four were descended from the giants in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.	22 Questi quattro erano nati a Rafa, in Gat. Essi perirono per mano di Davide e per mano dei suoi ministri.
