1 After this Absalom got himself a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.	1 Il arriva après cela qu'Absalom se procura un char et des chevaux, et 50 hommes couraientdevant lui.
2 And Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way of the gate; and when any man had a suit to come before the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him, and say, "From what city are you?" And when he said, "Your servant is of such and such a tribe in Israel,"	2 Levé de bonne heure, Absalom se tenait au bord du chemin qui mène à la porte, et chaque foisqu'un homme, ayant un procès, devait venir au tribunal du roi, Absalom l'interpellait et lui demandait: "De quelleville es-tu?" Il répondait: "Ton serviteur est de l'une des tribus d'Israël"
3 Absalom would say to him, "See, your claims are good and right; but there is no man deputed by the king to hear you."	3 Alors Absalom lui disait: "Vois! Ta cause est bonne et juste, mais tu n'auras personne quit'écoute de la part du roi."
4 Absalom said moreover, "Oh that I were judge in the land! Then every man with a suit or cause might come to me, and I would give him justice."	4 Absalom continuait: "Ah! qui m'établira juge dans le pays? Tous ceux qui ont un procès et unjugement viendraient à moi et je leur rendrais justice!"
5 And whenever a man came near to do obeisance to him, he would put out his hand, and take hold of him, and kiss him.	5 Et lorsque quelqu'un s'approchait pour se prosterner devant lui, il tendait la main, l'attirait à lui etl'embrassait.
6 Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.	6 Absalom agissait de la sorte envers tous les Israélites qui en appelaient au tribunal du roi etAbsalom séduisait le coeur des gens d'Israël.
7 And at the end of four years Absalom said to the king, "Pray let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron.	7 Au bout de quatre ans, Absalom dit au roi: "Permets que j'aille à Hébron accomplir le voeu quej'ai fait à Yahvé.
8 For your servant vowed a vow while I dwelt at Geshur in Aram, saying, 'If the LORD will indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will offer worship to the LORD.'"	8 Car, lorsque j'étais à Geshur en Aram, ton serviteur a fait ce voeu: Si Yahvé me ramène àJérusalem, je rendrai un culte à Yahvé à Hébron."
9 The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he arose, and went to Hebron.	9 Le roi lui dit: "Va en paix." Il se mit donc en route et alla à Hébron.
10 But Absalom sent secret messengers throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then say, 'Absalom is king at Hebron!'"	10 Absalom dépêcha des émissaires à toutes les tribus d'Israël pour dire: "Quand vous entendrez leson du cor, vous direz: Absalom est devenu roi à Hébron."
11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem who were invited guests, and they went in their simplicity, and knew nothing.	11 Avec Absalom étaient partis 200 hommes de Jérusalem; c'étaient des invités qui étaient venusen toute innocence, n'étant au courant de rien.
12 And while Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. And the conspiracy grew strong, and the people with Absalom kept increasing.	12 Absalom envoya chercher, de sa ville de Gilo, Ahitophel le Gilonite, conseiller de David, etl'eut avec lui en offrant les sacrifices. La conjuration était puissante et la foule des partisans d'Absalom allait enaugmentant.
13 And a messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom."	13 Quelqu'un vint informer David: "Le coeur des gens d'Israël, dit-il, est passé à Absalom."
14 Then David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee; or else there will be no escape for us from Absalom; go in haste, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword."	14 Alors David dit à tous ses officiers qui étaient avec lui à Jérusalem: "En route, et fuyons!Autrement nous n'échapperons pas à Absalom. Hâtez-vous de partir, de crainte qu'il ne se presse et ne nousattaque, qu'il ne nous inflige le malheur et ne passe la ville au fil de l'épée."
15 And the king's servants said to the king, "Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king decides."	15 Les officiers du roi lui répondirent: "Quelque choix que fasse Monseigneur le roi, nous sommesà ton service."
16 So the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten concubines to keep the house.	16 Le roi sortit à pied avec toute sa famille; cependant le roi laissa dix concubines pour garder lepalais.
17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him; and they halted at the last house.	17 Le roi sortit à pied avec tout le peuple et ils s'arrêtèrent à la dernière maison.
18 And all his servants passed by him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the six hundred Gittites who had followed him from Gath, passed on before the king.	18 Tous ses officiers se tenaient à ses côtés. Tous les Kerétiens, tous les Pelétiens, Ittaï et tous lesGittites qui étaient venus de Gat à sa suite, 600 hommes, défilaient devant le roi.
19 Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, "Why do you also go with us? Go back, and stay with the king; for you are a foreigner, and also an exile from your home.	19 Celui-ci dit à Ittaï le Gittite: "Pourquoi viens-tu aussi avec nous? Retourne et demeure avec leroi, car tu es un étranger, tu es même exilé de ton pays.
20 You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander about with us, seeing I go I know not where? Go back, and take your brethren with you; and may the LORD show steadfast love and faithfulness to you."	20 Tu es arrivé d'hier, et aujourd'hui je te ferais errer avec nous, quand je m'en vais à l'aventure!Retourne et remmène tes frères avec toi, et que Yahvé te témoigne miséricorde et bonté."
21 But Ittai answered the king, "As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be."	21 Mais Ittaï répondit au roi: "Par la vie de Yahvé et par la vie de Monseigneur le roi, partout oùsera Monseigneur le roi, pour la mort et pour la vie, là aussi sera ton serviteur."
22 And David said to Ittai, "Go then, pass on." So Ittai the Gittite passed on, with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.	22 David dit alors à Ittaï: "Va et passe." Et Ittaï de Gat passa avec tous ses hommes et toute sasmala.
23 And all the country wept aloud as all the people passed by, and the king crossed the brook Kidron, and all the people passed on toward the wilderness.	23 Tout le monde pleurait à grands sanglots. Le roi se tenait dans le torrent du Cédron et tout lepeuple défilait devant lui en direction du désert.
24 And Abiathar came up, and lo, Zadok came also, with all the Levites, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down the ark of God, until the people had all passed out of the city.	24 On vit aussi Sadoq et tous les lévites portant l'arche de Dieu. On déposa l'arche de Dieu auprèsd'Ebyatar jusqu'à ce que tout le peuple eût fini de défiler hors de la ville.
25 Then the king said to Zadok, "Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me back and let me see both it and his habitation;	25 Le roi dit à Sadoq: "Rapporte en ville l'arche de Dieu. Si je trouve grâce aux yeux de Yahvé, ilme ramènera et me permettra de le revoir ainsi que sa demeure,
26 but if he says, 'I have no pleasure in you,' behold, here I am, let him do to me what seems good to him."	26 et s'il dit: Tu me déplais, me voici: qu'il me fasse comme bon lui semble."
27 The king also said to Zadok the priest, "Look, go back to the city in peace, you and Abiathar, with your two sons, Ahima-az your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.	27 Le roi dit au prêtre Sadoq: "Voyez, toi et Ebyatar, retournez en paix à la ville, et vos deux filsavec vous, Ahimaaç ton fils et Yehonatân le fils d'Ebyatar.
28 See, I will wait at the fords of the wilderness, until word comes from you to inform me."	28 Voyez, moi je m'attarderai dans les passes du désert jusqu'à ce que vienne un mot de vous quim'apporte des nouvelles."
29 So Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem; and they remained there.	29 Sadoq et Ebyatar ramenèrent donc l'arche de Dieu à Jérusalem et ils y demeurèrent.
30 But David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, barefoot and with his head covered; and all the people who were with him covered their heads, and they went up, weeping as they went.	30 David gravissait en pleurant la Montée des Oliviers, la tête voilée et les pieds nus, et tout lepeuple qui l'accompagnait avait la tête voilée et montait en pleurant.
31 And it was told David, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." And David said, "O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness."	31 On avertit alors David qu'Ahitophel était parmi les conjurés avec Absalom, et David dit: "Rendsfous, Yahvé, les conseils d'Ahitophel!"
32 When David came to the summit, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent and earth upon his head.	32 Comme David arrivait au sommet, là où l'on adore Dieu, il vit venir à sa rencontre Hushaïl'Arkite, le familier de David, avec la tunique déchirée et de la terre sur la tête.
33 David said to him, "If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me.	33 David lui dit: "Si tu pars avec moi, tu me seras à charge.
34 But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father's servant in time past, so now I will be your servant,' then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.	34 Mais si tu retournes en ville et si tu dis à Absalom: Je serai ton serviteur, Monseigneur le roi;auparavant je servais ton père, maintenant je te servirai, alors tu déjoueras à mon profit les conseils d'Ahitophel.
35 Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So whatever you hear from the king's house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.	35 Sadoq et Ebyatar, les prêtres, ne seront-ils pas avec toi? Tout ce que tu entendras du palais, tu lerapporteras aux prêtres Sadoq et Ebyatar.
36 Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahima-az, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me everything you hear."	36 Il y a avec eux leurs deux fils, Ahimaaç pour Sadoq, et Yehonatân pour Ebyatar: vous mecommuniquerez par leur intermédiaire tout ce que vous aurez appris."
37 So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city, just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.	37 Hushaï, le familier de David, rentra en ville au moment où Absalom arrivait à Jérusalem.
