1 After this Absalom got himself a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.	1 Après cela Absalom acheta un char, des chevaux, et se procura 50 hommes qui couraient devant lui.
2 And Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way of the gate; and when any man had a suit to come before the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him, and say, "From what city are you?" And when he said, "Your servant is of such and such a tribe in Israel,"	2 Le matin de bonne heure Absalom allait se tenir près de la route qui conduit à la porte de la ville. Chaque fois qu’un homme avait un procès et qu’il devait se rendre chez le roi pour le jugement, Absalom l’appelait: “De quelle ville es-tu?” lui disait-il. Si l’autre répondait: “Ton serviteur est de telle tribu d’Israël”,
3 Absalom would say to him, "See, your claims are good and right; but there is no man deputed by the king to hear you."	3 Absalom lui disait: “Regarde, ta cause est bonne et juste, mais il n’y aura personne pour t’écouter chez le roi.”
4 Absalom said moreover, "Oh that I were judge in the land! Then every man with a suit or cause might come to me, and I would give him justice."	4 Puis Absalom ajoutait: “Si seulement j’étais chargé de la justice dans ce pays! Tous ceux qui auraient un procès viendraient me trouver et je leur ferais justice.”
5 And whenever a man came near to do obeisance to him, he would put out his hand, and take hold of him, and kiss him.	5 Et puis, lorsque quelqu’un s’approchait pour se prosterner devant lui, Absalom lui tendait la main, le relevait et l’embrassait.
6 Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.	6 Absalom faisait ainsi envers tous les Israélites qui venaient trouver le roi pour un procès, et il se gagnait le cœur de tous les Israélites.
7 And at the end of four years Absalom said to the king, "Pray let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron.	7 Au bout de quatre ans, Absalom dit au roi: “Laisse-moi partir à Hébron pour un vœu que j’ai fait à Yahvé.
8 For your servant vowed a vow while I dwelt at Geshur in Aram, saying, 'If the LORD will indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will offer worship to the LORD.'"	8 Pendant que j’étais à Guéchour, en Aram, j’ai fait ce vœu: ‘Si Yahvé me laisse revenir à Jérusalem, j’irai honorer Yahvé à Hébron.’ ”
9 The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he arose, and went to Hebron.	9 Le roi lui dit: “Va en paix.” Alors Absalom se leva et partit pour Hébron.
10 But Absalom sent secret messengers throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then say, 'Absalom is king at Hebron!'"	10 Absalom envoya des gens à lui dans toutes les tribus d’Israël: “Dès que vous entendrez le son du cor, disait-il, vous proclamerez: Absalom est roi à Hébron.”
11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem who were invited guests, and they went in their simplicity, and knew nothing.	11 200 personnes invitées par Absalom étaient parties de Jérusalem avec lui, mais ils étaient allés sans savoir, sans rien connaître de toute cette affaire.
12 And while Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. And the conspiracy grew strong, and the people with Absalom kept increasing.	12 Pendant qu’Absalom offrait des sacrifices, il envoya chercher à Guilo un conseiller de David qui s’appelait Ahitofel de Guilo. La conspiration grandissait de jour en jour et les partisans d’Absalom devenaient plus nombreux.
13 And a messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom."	13 Quelqu’un vint informer David: “Les hommes d’Israël se sont tournés vers Absalom.”
14 Then David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee; or else there will be no escape for us from Absalom; go in haste, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword."	14 Alors David dit à ses serviteurs, à ceux qui étaient avec lui à Jérusalem: “Vite, fuyons! ou nous n’échapperons pas à Absalom. Dépêchez-vous de partir; s’il venait à nous rejoindre, il nous mettrait à mal et il passerait la ville au fil de l’épée.”
15 And the king's servants said to the king, "Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king decides."	15 Les serviteurs du roi lui dirent: “Quelle que soit la décision de mon seigneur le roi, nous sommes tes serviteurs.”
16 So the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten concubines to keep the house.	16 Le roi sortit donc à pied avec toute sa famille, laissant dans la ville 10 de ses concubines pour garder son palais.
17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him; and they halted at the last house.	17 Le roi allait à pied accompagné de tous ses gens, et ils firent une halte à la dernière maison.
18 And all his servants passed by him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the six hundred Gittites who had followed him from Gath, passed on before the king.	18 Tous ses serviteurs se tenaient à côté de lui pendant que les Kérétiens, les Pélétiens, les hommes de Gat passaient devant le roi: 600 hommes au total qui étaient venus de Gat à sa suite.
19 Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, "Why do you also go with us? Go back, and stay with the king; for you are a foreigner, and also an exile from your home.	19 Le roi dit à Ittaï de Gat: “Pourquoi viens-tu toi aussi avec nous? Retourne et demeure auprès du nouveau roi. Tu es un étranger, tu as déjà eu à quitter ton pays.
20 You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander about with us, seeing I go I know not where? Go back, and take your brethren with you; and may the LORD show steadfast love and faithfulness to you."	20 Tu es arrivé récemment et déjà je te ferais partir à l’aventure avec nous? Retourne, remmène avec toi tes frères, et que Yahvé te montre sa bonté et sa fidélité.”
21 But Ittai answered the king, "As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be."	21 Mais Ittaï répondit au roi: “Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant et aussi vrai que mon seigneur le roi est vivant, là où sera mon seigneur le roi, là seront pour moi la mort et la vie.”
22 And David said to Ittai, "Go then, pass on." So Ittai the Gittite passed on, with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.	22 Alors David dit à Ittaï: “Va et passe.” Et Ittaï de Gat passa avec tous ses hommes et leurs familles.
23 And all the country wept aloud as all the people passed by, and the king crossed the brook Kidron, and all the people passed on toward the wilderness.	23 Le peuple défilait et tout le monde pleurait à haute voix. Le roi traversa le torrent du Cédron et toute la population passa à l’est de la route qui longe le désert.
24 And Abiathar came up, and lo, Zadok came also, with all the Levites, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down the ark of God, until the people had all passed out of the city.	24 Sadoq aussi était là avec tous les Lévites qui portaient l’Arche de l’Alliance de Dieu; ils déposèrent l’Arche de Dieu pendant que tout ce peuple montait de la ville et défilait.
25 Then the king said to Zadok, "Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me back and let me see both it and his habitation;	25 Alors le roi dit à Sadoq: “Ramène l’Arche de Dieu en ville. Si je trouve grâce aux yeux de Yahvé, il me ramènera et me fera revoir l’Arche et sa Demeure.
26 but if he says, 'I have no pleasure in you,' behold, here I am, let him do to me what seems good to him."	26 Mais s’il dit: Je ne veux plus de toi! me voici: qu’il me traite comme il lui semblera bon.”
27 The king also said to Zadok the priest, "Look, go back to the city in peace, you and Abiathar, with your two sons, Ahima-az your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.	27 Le roi dit encore au prêtre Sadoq: “Retourne en paix dans la ville avec ton fils Ahimaas et Yonathan, fils d’Ébyatar.
28 See, I will wait at the fords of the wilderness, until word comes from you to inform me."	28 Regardez, je m’attarderai dans les défilés du désert jusqu’à ce que je reçoive un mot de vous pour me donner des nouvelles.”
29 So Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem; and they remained there.	29 Sadoq et Ébyatar ramenèrent donc l’Arche de Dieu à Jérusalem et ils y restèrent.
30 But David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, barefoot and with his head covered; and all the people who were with him covered their heads, and they went up, weeping as they went.	30 David gravissait le Mont des Oliviers, il montait en pleurant, un voile sur la tête, et marchait pieds nus. Tous ceux qui étaient avec lui avaient la tête voilée et montaient en pleurant.
31 And it was told David, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." And David said, "O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness."	31 On apporta cette nouvelle à David: “Ahitofel est l’un des conjurés, il est avec Absalom!” Et David s’écria: “Oh Yahvé, rends fous les conseils d’Ahitofel!”
32 When David came to the summit, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent and earth upon his head.	32 David arrivait au sommet, là où l’on adore Dieu. Il vit venir à sa rencontre l’un de ses familiers, Houchaï l’Arkite, il avait sa tunique déchirée et de la terre sur la tête.
33 David said to him, "If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me.	33 David lui dit: “Si tu viens avec moi tu me seras à charge.
34 But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father's servant in time past, so now I will be your servant,' then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.	34 Tu pourrais retourner en ville et tu dirais à Absalom: ‘Je serai à ton service, mon seigneur le roi; autrefois je servais ton père, maintenant je te servirai.’ Alors tu me rendrais service en brouillant les conseils d’Ahitofel.
35 Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So whatever you hear from the king's house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.	35 Les prêtres Sadoq et Ébyatar seront avec toi. Tout ce que tu auras appris dans le palais, tu le répéteras aux prêtres Sadoq et Ébyatar.
36 Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahima-az, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me everything you hear."	36 Leurs deux fils, Ahimaas, fils de Sadoq et Yonathan, fils d’Ébyatar, sont avec eux, et par leur intermédiaire vous me ferez connaître tout ce que vous aurez appris.”
37 So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city, just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.	37 Houchaï, le familier de David, rentra donc en ville au moment où Absalom arrivait à Jérusalem.
