1 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women.	1 Isacco adunque chiamò a sé Giacobbe, e lo benedisse, e gli diede questo comando, dicendo: Non prender moglie della stirpe di Chanaan:
2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take as wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.	2 Ma parti, e va' nella Mesopotamia di Siria alla casa di Bathuele, padre di tua genitrice, e quindi prenditi una moglie delle figlie di Laban tuo zio.
3 God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples.	3 E Dio onnipotente ti benedica, e ti faccia crescere, e ti moltiplichi; onde tu sii capo di una turba di popoli.
4 May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings which God gave to Abraham!"	4 E dia egli le benedizioni di Abramo a te, e alla tua stirpe dopo di te; onde tu sii padrone della terra, dove sei pellegrino, promessa da lui al tuo nonno.
5 Thus Isaac sent Jacob away; and he went to Paddan-aram to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.	5 Licenziatosi Giacobbe da Isacco, si partì, e giunse nella Mesopotamia di Siria alla casa di Laban, figliuolo di Bathuele Siro, fratello di Rebecca sua madre.
6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women,"	6 Ma veggendo Esaù, come il padre suo avea benedetto Giacobbe, e lo avea mandato nella Mesopotamia di Siria a prendervi moglie, e come dopo la benedizione gli avea dato quest'ordine dicendo: Non prenderai in moglie alcuna delle figlie di Chanaan:
7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram.	7 E come obbedendo Giacobbe a' suoi genitori, era andato nella Siria:
8 So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father,	8 Avendo ancora sperimentato, che non di buon occhio vedeva il padre suo le figlie di Chanaan:
9 Esau went to Ishmael and took to wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth.	9 Andò alla casa d'Ismaele, e prese moglie, oltre quelle che prima avea, Maheleth, figliuola d'Ismaele, figliuolo di Abramo, sorella di Nabajoth.
10 Jacob left Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.	10 Ma Giacobbe partito da Bersabee, andava verso Haran.
11 And he came to a certain place, and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep.	11 E arrivato in un certo luogo, e volendo ivi riposare dopo il tramontare del sole, prese una delle pietre, che erano per terra, e se la pose sotto del capo, e nel luogo stesso si addormentò.
12 And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!	12 E vide in sogno una scala appoggiata alla terra, la cui sommità toccava il cielo: e gli Angeli di Dio, che salivano per essa, e scendevano,
13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, "I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your descendants;	13 E il Signore appoggiato alla scala, il quale a lui diceva: Io sono il Signore Dio di Abramo tuo padre, e Dio d'Isacco: la terra, in cui tu dormi, la darò a te, e alla tua stirpe.
14 and your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and by you and your descendants shall all the families of the earth bless themselves.	14 E la tua stirpe sarà come la polve della terra: ti dilaterai a occidente, e ad oriente, e a settentrione, e a mezzo giorno, e IN TE, e nel seme tuo SARAN BENEDETTE tutte le tribù della terra.
15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that of which I have spoken to you."	15 E io sarò tuo custode, in qualunque luogo anderai: e ti ricondurrò in questo paese: e non ti lascerò senza avere adempiuto tutto quello che ho detto.
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place; and I did not know it."	16 E svegliatosi Giacobbe dal sonno, disse: Veramente il Signore è in questo luogo, e io nol sapeva.
17 And he was afraid, and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven."	17 E pien di paura: Quanto è terribile, diss'egli, questo luogo! non è qui altra cosa, se non la casa di Dio, e la porta del cielo.
18 So Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone which he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it.	18 Alzatosi adunque al mattino Giacobbe, prese la pietra, che avea posta sotto il suo capo, e la eresse in monumento, versandovi sopra dell'olio.
19 He called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of the city was Luz at the first.	19 E alla città, che prima chiamavasi Luza, diede il nome di Bethel.
20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear,	20 Fece ancora voto, dicendo: Se il Signore sarà con me, e sarà mio custode nel viaggio da me intrapreso, e mi darà pane da mangiare, e veste da coprirmi,
21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God,	21 E tornerò felicemente alla casa del padre mio, il Signore sarà mio Dio,
22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that thou givest me I will give the tenth to thee."	22 E questa pietra alzata da me per monumento, avrà il nome di casa di Dio: e di tutte le cose, che darai a me, ti offerirò la decima.
