1 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women.	1 Isacco adunque chiamò Giacobbe e, dopo averlo benedetto, gli diede questo comando: «Non prender moglie della razza di Canaan:
2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take as wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.	2 ma parti e va nella Mesopotamia di Siria, alla casa di Batuel padre di tua madre, e prenditi di là una moglie tra le figlie di Labano tuo zio.
3 God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples.	3 E Dio onnipotente ti benedica, ti faccia crescere e ti moltiplichi in modo che tu diventi una turba di popoli,
4 May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings which God gave to Abraham!"	4 e dia a te e alla tua stirpe dopo di te le benedizioni di Abramo, affinchè tu possegga la terra dove sei andato pellegrinando, la terra da Dio promessa al tuo nonno ».
5 Thus Isaac sent Jacob away; and he went to Paddan-aram to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.	5 Giacobbe, licenziatosi da Isacco, parti e andò nella Mesopotamia di Siria, da Labano, figlio di Batuel Siro, fratello di Rebecca sua madre.
6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women,"	6 Or Esaù, vedendo che suo padre aveva benedetto Giacobbe e lo aveva mandato nella Mesopotamia di Siriat a prendervi moglie, e che dopo la benedizione gli aveva dato quest'ordine: Non prender moglie tra le figlie di Canaan
7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram.	7 e che Giacobbe, obbedendo ai suoi genitori, era andato in Siria,
8 So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father,	8 comprese che suo padre non vedeva di buon occhio le figlie di Canaan,
9 Esau went to Ishmael and took to wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth.	9 e quindi se ne andò da Ismaele, e aggiunse alle mogli che già aveva, Mahelet, figlia d'Ismaele figlio d'Abramo, sorella di Nabaiot.
10 Jacob left Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.	10 Or Giacobbe, partito da Bersabee per andare verso Haran,
11 And he came to a certain place, and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep.	11 arrivò in un certo luogo, ove, desiderando riposare dopo il tramonto del sole, prese una delle pietre del posto e se la pose sotto il capo, e lì si mise a dormire.
12 And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!	12 E vide in sogno una scala che, poggiata sulla terra, colla cima toccava il cielo, e gli angeli di Dio salivano e scendevano per essa,
13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, "I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your descendants;	13 mentre il Signore, appoggiato alla scala, gli diceva: « Io sono il Signore Dio di Abramo tuo padre, il Dio d'Isacco: io darò a te e alla tua stirpe la terra in cui riposi,
14 and your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and by you and your descendants shall all the families of the earth bless themselves.	14 e la tua stirpe sarà come la polvere della terra: ti estenderai a Occidente, a Oriente, a Settentrione, a Mezzogiorno; e in te e nella tua discendenza saran benedette tutte le tribù della terra.
15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that of which I have spoken to you."	15 Ed io sarò il tuo protettore dovunque andrai, e ti ricondurrò in questo paese, e non ti lascerò finché non avrò adempito quanto ho detto ».
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place; and I did not know it."	16 E Giacobbe, svegliatosi dal sonno, disse: «Veramente il Signore è in questo luogo, e io non lo sapevo! »
17 And he was afraid, and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven."	17 E pieno di paura, disse: « Quanto è terribile questo luogo! Qui non c'è altro che la casa di Dio e la porta del Cielo! »
18 So Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone which he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it.	18 E alzatosi la mattina, Giacobbe prese la pietra che s'era posta sotto il capo, e, versandovi sopra dell'olio, la eresse in monumento.
19 He called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of the city was Luz at the first.	19 E diede il nome di Betel alla città che prima si chiamava Luza.
20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear,	20 E di più fece questo voto: « Se il Signore sarà con me, e mi proteggerà nel viaggio intrapreso, mi darà pane da mangiare e vesti da coprirmi,
21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God,	21 se tornerò felicemente , alla casa del padre mio, il Signore sarà il mio Dio,
22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that thou givest me I will give the tenth to thee."	22 e questa pietra, da me eretta in monumento, sarà chiamata casa di Dio; e di tutto quello che mi darai, io ti offrirò le decime ».
