1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.	1 Amikor pedig Ábrám kilencvenkilenc esztendős lett, megjelent neki az Úr, és azt mondta: »Én vagyok a Mindenható Isten: járj előttem, légy tökéletes,
2 And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."	2 és én szövetséget szerzek közöttem és közötted, és nagyon megsokasítlak!«
3 Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him,	3 Ábrám arcra borult.
4 "Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations.	4 Isten így folytatta: »Íme, itt vagyok! Ez az én veled kötött szövetségem: sok nemzet atyja leszel.
5 No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.	5 Ne is legyen többé Ábrám a neved, hanem Ábrahámnak hívjanak, mert sok nemzet atyjává rendeltelek!
6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come forth from you.	6 Nagyon megsokasítalak, és számos nemzetté teszlek; királyok származnak majd tőled.
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.	7 És azt a szövetséget kötöm meg közöttem és közötted, és utódaid között, nemzedékről nemzedékre örök szövetségül, hogy Istened leszek neked, és utánad a te utódodnak.
8 And I will give to you, and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."	8 Neked és utódodnak adom majd ezt a földet, ahol most idegenként tartózkodsz, Kánaánnak egész földjét örökös birtokul, és Istenük leszek.«
9 And God said to Abraham, "As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.	9 Isten ezután azt mondta Ábrahámnak: »Te is tartsd meg tehát szövetségemet, és utódod nemzedékről nemzedékre.
10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.	10 Ez a szövetségem közöttem és közöttetek, és utódod között, amelyet meg kell tartanotok: metélkedjék körül közöttetek minden férfi,
11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.	11 metéljétek körül előbőrötök húsát, hogy az legyen a jele a szövetségnek közöttem és közöttetek.
12 He that is eight days old among you shall be circumcised; every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house, or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring,	12 Nyolcnapos korában metéljenek körül közöttetek minden fiúgyermeket, nemzedékről nemzedékre! A rabszolgát is metéljétek körül, akkor is, ha nálatok született, s akkor is, ha vásárolt, és nem a ti törzsetekből való.
13 both he that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money, shall be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant.	13 Körül kell metélni a nálatok születettet és a pénzen vásároltat is. Ez legyen a szövetségem testeteken örök szövetségül.
14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."	14 Az a férfi, akinek előbőre húsát körül nem metélik, irtassék ki a népéből, mert megszegte szövetségemet!«
15 And God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.	15 Majd azt mondta Isten Ábrahámnak: »Sárait, a feleségedet, ne Sárainak hívd, hanem Sárának,
16 I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her; I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall come from her."	16 mert megáldom, s tőle adom neked azt a fiút, akit majd megáldok, hogy nemzetekké legyen, s népek királyai származzanak tőle!«
17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said to himself, "Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?"	17 Arcra borult erre Ábrahám, és nevetett, mert azt gondolta magában: »Százesztendős embernek fog fia születni, s a kilencvenesztendős Sára fog szülni?«
18 And Abraham said to God, "O that Ishmael might live in thy sight!"	18 Istennek pedig azt mondta: »Csak Izmael maradjon életben előtted!«
19 God said, "No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.	19 Így szólt erre Isten Ábrahámhoz: »Nem! Sára, a feleséged fiút fog szülni neked. Nevezd el őt Izsáknak, s én fenntartom szövetségemet vele és utódjával örökre.
20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him and make him fruitful and multiply him exceedingly; he shall be the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.	20 Izmaelre vonatkozólag is meghallgattalak: íme, megáldom és megszaporítom, és nagyon megsokasítom: tizenkét fejedelmet fog nemzeni, és nagy néppé teszem.
21 But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this season next year."	21 De a szövetségemet Izsáknak tartom fenn, akit Sára szül majd neked, egy esztendő múlva ilyenkor.«
22 When he had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.	22 Amikor aztán befejezte beszédét, amelyet vele folytatott, Isten felemelkedett Ábrahám elől.
23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all the slaves born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him.	23 Ábrahám pedig fogta a fiát, Izmaelt, s házának valamennyi nála született és valamennyi vásárolt rabszolgáját, háza népe minden férfi tagját, és mindjárt aznap körülmetélte előbőrük húsát, miként Isten megparancsolta neki.
24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.	24 Kilencvenkilenc esztendős volt Ábrahám, amikor körülmetélte előbőre húsát,
25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.	25 Izmael, a fia pedig tizenharmadik esztendejét töltötte be, amikor körülmetélkedett.
26 That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised;	26 Ugyanaznap metélkedett körül Ábrahám, és a fia, Izmael,
27 and all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.	27 és házának minden férfi tagja, minden nála született, és minden pénzen vásárolt és máshol született rabszolga körülmetélkedett vele együtt.
