Genesis 13

1 So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb.	1 Abramo adunque risalì dall'Egitto nella parte meridionale, con la sua moglie, con tutto ciò che aveva e con Lot.
2 Now Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.	2 Abramo, molto ricco d'oro e d'argento, da mezzodì, per la strada per cui era venuto,
3 And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,	3 tornò fino a Betel, fino al luogo dove prima aveva piantato la tenda tra Betel ed Ai,
4 to the place where he had made an altar at the first; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.	4 nel posto dell'altare da lui eretto la prima volta: ed ivi invocò il nome del Signore.
5 And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents,	5 Ora anche Lot, che era con Abramo, aveva greggi di pecore, di buoi e tende.
6 so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together,	6 E la regione non era loro sufficiente per abitare insieme, infatti i loro beni eran molti, e non potevano stare insieme.
7 and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites dwelt in the land.	7 Per questo nacque anche una contesa tra i pastori dei greggi di Abramo e quelli di Lot, mentre il Cananeo e il Ferezeo abitavano in quella terra.
8 Then Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen; for we are kinsmen.	8 Disse dunque Abramo a Lot: « Mi raccomando, non ci sia contesa fra me e te, fra i miei e i tuoi pastori, perchè noi siamo fratelli.
9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left."	9 Ecco davanti a te tutto il paese, allontanati da me, ti prego: se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò a destra; se tu vai destra, io andrò a sinistra».
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw that the Jordan valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar; this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.	10 Or Lot, ali gli occhi, mirò tutta la regione fino al Giordano, la quale, prima che il Signore distruggesse Sodoma e Gomorra, irrigata come il paradiso del Signore come l'Egitto, per chi viene a Segor.
11 So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan valley, and Lot journeyed east; thus they separated from each other.	11 Lot si scelse il paese intorno al Giordano, e se ne andò a oriente, e cosi si separarono i due fratelli l'uno dall'altro.
12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, while Lot dwelt among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.	12 Abramo si stabilì nella terra di Canaan, Lot nelle città che erano intorno al Giordano e dimorò in Sodoma.
13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD.	13 Or i Sodomiti erano pessimi e grandi peccatori anzi al Signore.
14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;	14 E il Signore disse ad Abramo, dopo che Lot si fu separato da lui: « Alza gli occhi e mira, dal luogo ove sei ora, a settentrione, a mezzogiorno, a oriente, a occidente.
15 for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your descendants for ever.	15 Tutto il paese che vedi, io lo dò a te e ai tuoi posteri in eterno.
16 I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your descendants also can be counted.	16 E moltiplicherò la tua progenie come la polvere della terra: se alcuno degli uomini può contare la polvere della terra, potrà contare anche i tuoi posteri.
17 Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you."	17 Levati su e scorri la terra, quanto è lunga e quant'è larga, chè io te la darò ».
18 So Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron; and there he built an altar to the LORD.	18 Allora Abramo levò le sue tende e anadò ad abitare presso la valle di Mambre che è in Ebron, ed ivi edificò un altare Signore.
