Genesis 11

1 Now the whole earth had one language and few words.	1 (Da poi veramente il diluvio), sì era la terra d'uno labbro, e di quelle medesime parole.
2 And as men migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.	2 E conciosia cosa che facessero processo dall'oriente, trovarono uno campo nella terra di Sennaar, nel quale luogo abitarono.
3 And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly." And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.	3 Onde disse uno al prossimo suo: venite e facciamo de' mattoni e cociamli nel fuoco. E si ebbeno i mattoni per sassi, e bitume per cemento.
4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. "	4 E disse: venite e facciamo sì una città ed una torre, la sommità della quale trapassi lo cielo; e celebreremo lo nome nostro, inanzi che noi siamo divisi per tutte le terre.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men had built.	5 E venne lo Signore, acciò che vedesse la città e la torre, la quale edificavano i figliuoli di Adam.
6 And the LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; and nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.	6 E disse: ecco uno è il popolo, ed uno è il parlare a tutti: e sì cominciarono a fare questa cosa, e non si partono dai pensieri loro, infino a tanto che quello lavorio compiono.
7 Come, let us go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."	7 Venite dunque, andiamo e confondiamo quivi le lingue loro, acciò che non oda ciascuno la voce del prossimo suo.
8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.	8 E così divise il Signore loro di quello luogo in tutte le terre; e sì cessaro di edificare la città.
9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.	9 E perciò è chiamato il nome suo Babel; imperciò che quivi fu confuso lo labbro per isviare lo linguaggio di tutta la terra. E quindi disperse loro il Signore sopra la faccia di tutte le regioni (per tutto il mondo).
10 These are the descendants of Shem. When Shem was a hundred years old, he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood;	10 Queste sono le generazioni di Sem. Sem era di cento anni, quando generò Arfasad, due anni dopo il diluvio.
11 and Shem lived after the birth of Arpachshad five hundred years, and had other sons and daughters.	11 E vivette Sem, poi che generoe Irfasad, cinquecento anni; e generoe figliuoli e figliuole.
12 When Arpachshad had lived thirty-five years, he became the father of Shelah;	12 E vivette poi Arfasad XXXV anni, e generoe Sale.
13 and Arpachshad lived after the birth of Shelah four hundred and three years, and had other sons and daughters.	13 E vivette Arfasad, poi che generoe Sale, CCCIII anni; e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
14 When Shelah had lived thirty years, he became the father of Eber;	14 Sale veramente vivette XXX anni, e generò Eber.
15 and Shelah lived after the birth of Eber four hundred and three years, and had other sons and daughters.	15 E vivette Sale, poi che generò Eber, CCCCIII anni; e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
16 When Eber had lived thirty-four years, he became the father of Peleg;	16 E questo Eber vivette XXXIIII anni, e generoe Faleg.
17 and Eber lived after the birth of Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and had other sons and daughters.	17 E vivette Eber, poscia che generoe Faleg, CCCCXXX anni; e generoe figliuoli e figliuole.
18 When Peleg had lived thirty years, he became the father of Reu;	18 E vivette Faleg XXX anni, e generoe Reu.
19 and Peleg lived after the birth of Reu two hundred and nine years, and had other sons and daughters.	19 E si vivette Faleg, poi che generoe Reu, CCVIIII anni; e generoe figliuoli e figliuole.
20 When Reu had lived thirty-two years, he became the father of Serug;	20 E vivette Reu XXXII anni, e generò Sarug.
21 and Reu lived after the birth of Serug two hundred and seven years, and had other sons and daughters.	21 E vivette Reu, poi che generò Sarug, ducento VII anni; e generoe (in questo tempo) figliuoli e figliuole.
22 When Serug had lived thirty years, he became the father of Nahor;	22 E vivette Sarug XXX anni, e generò Nacor.
23 and Serug lived after the birth of Nahor two hundred years, and had other sons and daughters.	23 E vivette Sarug, poi che generó Nacor, CC anni; e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
24 When Nahor had lived twenty-nine years, he became the father of Terah;	24 E vivette Nacor XXVIIII anni, e generò Tare.
25 and Nahor lived after the birth of Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and had other sons and daughters.	25 E vivette Nacor, poi che generò Tare, CXIX anni; e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
26 When Terah had lived seventy years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.	26 E vivette Tare Lxx anni, e generoe Abram e Nacor ed Aran.
27 Now these are the descendants of Terah. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot.	27 Qui conteremo la generazione di Tare: Tare generoe Abram e Nacor ed Aran; questo Aran generoe Lot.
28 Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.	28 Morto è Aran inanzi che Tare suo padre, nella terra medesima dove nacque, cioè in Ur dei Caldei.
29 And Abram and Nahor took wives; the name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and Iscah.	29 Dopo questo, Abram e Nacor menarono moglie: lo nome della moglie di Abram, Sarai; lo nome della moglie di Nacor, Melca, figliuola d'Aran, padre di Melca e di Iesca.
30 Now Sarai was barren; she had no child.	30 Ma in verità Sarai, (moglie di Abram) era sterile (cioè che non potea menare figliuoli) e non avea figliuoli.
31 Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife, and they went forth together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan; but when they came to Haran, they settled there.	31 Adunque tolse Tare Abram suo figliuolo, e Lot figliuolo di Aran, figliuolo di suo figliuolo, e Sarai sua nuora, moglie di Abram suo figliuolo; e menò loro di Ur de' Caldei, acciò ch' egli andassero nella terra di Canaan; e vennero insino ad Aran (città) ed abitarono quivi.
32 The days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.	32 E compiuti (e stati quivi) sono i dì di Tare, (padre di Abram e di Nacor e di Aran) CCV anni; e morio in Aran (città).
