| 1 - Intorno al ministero in favore dei santi, mi è superfluo scrivere a voi; | 1 Now it is superfluous for me to write to you about the offering for the saints, |
| 2 conosco la vostra prontezza d'animo, quale a rispetto vostro io vanto coi Macedoni, dicendo che l'Acaia s'è preparata fin dall'anno scorso, e che il vostro zelo è stato di eccitamento a tanti. | 2 for I know your readiness, of which I boast about you to the people of Macedonia, saying that Achaia has been ready since last year; and your zeal has stirred up most of them. |
| 3 Ma ho inviato i fratelli, perchè il nostro vanto rispetto a voi non riesca vano in questa parte e voi siate pronti (come ho detto); | 3 But I am sending the brethren so that our boasting about you may not prove vain in this case, so that you may be ready, as I said you would be; |
| 4 non vorrei che se venissero con me dei Macedoni e vi trovassero impreparati, non avessimo a vergognarci noi (per non dir voi), per la fondata fiducia [in voi posta]. | 4 lest if some Macedonians come with me and find that you are not ready, we be humiliated--to say nothing of you--for being so confident. |
| 5 Perciò ho creduto necessario pregare i fratelli a venir da voi prima, e preparare la già annunziata vostra larghezza, sì che questa sia pronta come larghezza; non come spilorceria. | 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brethren to go on to you before me, and arrange in advance for this gift you have promised, so that it may be ready not as an exaction but as a willing gift. |
| 6 Questo è; chi semina scarsamente, scarsamente anche mieterà, e chi semina largamente, largamente anche mieterà. | 6 The point is this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. |
| 7 Ciascuno secondo che destinò nel suo cuore, non con rincrescimento, nè per forza, poichè ilare donatore ama il Signore. | 7 Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. |
| 8 E può Iddio sovrabbondare di ogni grazia su di voi, affinchè in ogni cosa e sempre avendo tutto il sufficiente sovrabbondiate in ogni opera di bene, | 8 And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. |
| 9 conforme sta scritto: " Ha profuso, ha dato ai poveri, la sua giustizia rimane in eterno ". | 9 As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever." |
| 10 Or colui che somministra seme al seminatore, darà anche pane da mangiare e moltiplicherà la vostra semenza e accrescerà i frutti della vostra giustizia. | 10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. |
| 11 Così, arricchiti in tutto, potrete esercitare la più larga beneficienza, la quale per opera vostra dà luogo a ringraziamenti a Dio. | 11 You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God; |
| 12 Il servizio di questa oblazione non solo è tale da soddisfare i bisogni dei santi, ma sovrabbonda anche per molti rendimenti di grazie a Dio; | 12 for the rendering of this service not only supplies the wants of the saints but also overflows in many thanksgivings to God. |
| 13 poichè per la prova di questa somministrazione, glorificano Dio, a motivo della vostra soggezione al riconoscimento del Vangelo di Cristo e della liberalità e generosità vostra verso loro e verso tutti, | 13 Under the test of this service, you will glorify God by your obedience in acknowledging the gospel of Christ, and by the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others; |
| 14 e, colle preghiere che fanno per voi, mostrano volervi un gran bene per la sovrabbondante grazia di Dio che è in voi. | 14 while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God in you. |
| 15 Grazie sian rese a Dio per questo ineffabile suo dono. | 15 Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! |
