1 James, servant of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes of the dispersion, greetings.	1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et de Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dispersées, salut.
2 My brothers, when you have fallen into various trials, consider everything a joy,	2 Regardez comme une grande joie, mes frères, d'être en butte à diverses épreuves,
3 knowing that the proving of your faith exercises patience,	3 sachant que l'épreuve de votre foi produit la patience.
4 and patience brings a work to perfection, so that you may be perfect and whole, deficient in nothing.	4 Mais la patience doit être parfaite dans ses oeuvres, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, ne laissant rien à désirer.
5 But if anyone among you is in need of wisdom, let him petition God, who gives abundantly to all without reproach, and it shall be given to him.	5 Si quelqu'un de vous manque de sagesse, qu'il la demande à Dieu, qui donne à tous libéralement et sans rien reprocher; et elle lui sera donnée.
6 But he should ask with faith, doubting nothing. For he who doubts is like a wave on the ocean, which is moved about by the wind and carried away;	6 Mais qu'il demande avec foi, sans hésiter. Car celui qui hésite est semblable au flot de la mer, qui est agité et poussé de côté et d'autre par le vent.
7 then a man should not consider that he would receive anything from the Lord.	7 Que cet homme là ne s'imagine pas qu'il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur.
8 For a man who is of two minds is inconstant in all his ways.	8 C'est un homme à l'esprit partagé, inconstant dans toutes ses voies.
9 Now a humble brother should glory in his exaltation,	9 Que le frère de condition humble se glorifie de son élévation;
10 and a rich one, in his humiliation, for he will pass away like the flower of the grass.	10 et le riche, au contraire, de son abaissement, parce qu'il passera comme la fleur de l'herbe.
11 For the sun has risen with a scorching heat, and has dried the grass, and its flower has fallen off, and the appearance of its beauty has perished. So also will the rich one wither away, according to his paths.	11 Car le soleil s'est levé brûlant, et il a desséché l'herbe, et sa fleur est tombée, et la grâce de son aspect a disparu; ainsi le riche se flétrira dans ses voies.
12 Blessed is the man who suffers temptation. For when he has been proven, he shall receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.	12 Heureux l'homme qui souffre patiemmeent l'épreuve, car, lorsqu'il aura été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que Dieu a promise à ceux qui L'aiment.
13 No one should say, when he is tempted, that he was tempted by God. For God does not entice toward evils, and he himself tempts no one.	13 Que nul, lorsqu'il est tenté, ne dise que c'est Dieu qui le tente; car Dieu ne tente pas pour le mal, et Il ne tente Lui-même personne.
14 Yet truly, each one is tempted by his own desires, having been enticed and drawn away.	14 Mais chacun est tenté par sa propre concupiscence, qui l'emporte et le séduit.
15 Thereafter, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. Yet truly sin, when it has been consummated, produces death.	15 Ensuite, lorsque la concupiscence a conçu, elle enfante le péché; et le péché, étant consommé, engendre la mort.
16 And so, do not choose to go astray, my most beloved brothers.	16 Ne vous y trompez pas, mes frères bien-aimés.
17 Every excellent gift and every perfect gift is from above, descending from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor any shadow of alteration.	17 Toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait vient d'en haut, et descend du Père des lumières, chez qui il n'y a pas de variation, ni d'ombre, ni de changement.
18 For by his own will he produced us through the Word of truth, so that we might be a kind of beginning among his creatures.	18 De Sa propre volonté Il nous a engendrés par la parole de vérité, afin que nous soyons comme les prémices de Ses créatures.
19 You know this, my most beloved brothers. So let every man be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to anger.	19 Vous le savez, mes frères bien-aimés. Que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, et lent à se mettre en colère;
20 For the anger of man does not accomplish the justice of God.	20 car la colère de l'homme n'accomplit pas la justice de Dieu.
21 Because of this, having cast away all uncleanness and an abundance of malice, receive with meekness the newly-grafted Word, which is able to save your souls.	21 C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et tout excès de méchanceté, recevez avec douceur la parole entée en vous, qui peut sauver vos âmes.
22 So be doers of the Word, and not listeners only, deceiving yourselves.	22 Seulement, mettez cette parole en pratique, et ne vous contentez pas de l'écouter, vous trompant vous-mêmes.
23 For if anyone is a listener of the Word, but not also a doer, he is comparable to a man gazing into a mirror upon the face that he was born with;	23 Car si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir son visage naturel,
24 and after considering himself, he went away and promptly forgot what he had seen.	24 et qui, après s'être regardé, s'en va, et oublie aussitôt quel il était.
25 But he who gazes upon the perfect law of liberty, and who remains in it, is not a forgetful hearer, but instead a doer of the work. He shall be blessed in what he does.	25 Mais celui qui aura considéré attentivement la loi parfaite de la liberté, et qui l'aura fait avec persévérance, arrivant ainsi, non à écouter pour oublier, mais à pratiquer l'oeuvre prescrite, celui-là trouvera le bonheur dans son activité.
26 But if anyone considers himself to be religious, but he does not restrain his tongue, but instead seduces his own heart: such a one’s religion is vanity.	26 Si quelqu'un croit être religieux, et ne met pas un frein à sa langue, mais trompe son propre coeur, la religion de cet homme est vaine.
27 This is religion, clean and undefiled before God the Father: to visit orphans and widows in their tribulations, and to keep yourself immaculate, apart from this age.	27 La religion pure et sans tache devant Dieu notre Père consiste à visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leur tribulation, et à se conserver pur du siècle présent.
