1 Timothy 6

1 Whoever are servants under the yoke, let them consider their masters to be worthy of every honor, lest the name and doctrine of the Lord be blasphemed.	1 Tous ceux qui sont sous le joug de l'esclavage doivent considérer leurs maîtres comme dignesd'un entier respect, afin que le nom de Dieu et la doctrine ne soient pas blasphémés.
2 But those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather serve them all the more because they are believing and beloved, participants of the same service. Teach and exhort these things.	2 Quant à ceux qui ont pour maîtres des croyants, qu'ils n'aillent pas les mépriser sous prétexteque ce sont des frères; qu'au contraire ils les servent d'autant mieux que ce sont des croyants et des amis de Dieuqui bénéficient de leurs services. Voilà ce que tu dois enseigner et recommander.
3 If anyone teaches otherwise, and does not consent to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is in accord with piety,	3 Si quelqu'un enseigne autre chose et ne reste pas attaché à de saines paroles, celles de notreSeigneur Jésus Christ, et à la doctrine conforme à la piété,
4 then he is arrogant, knowing nothing, yet languishing amid the questions and quarrels of words. From these arise envy, contention, blasphemy, evil suspicions:	4 c'est un être aveuglé par l'orgueil, un ignorant en mal de questions oiseuses et de querelles demots; de là viennent l'envie, la discorde, les outrages, les soupçons malveillants,
5 the conflicts of men who have been corrupted in mind and deprived of truth, who consider profit to be piety.	5 les disputes interminables de gens à l'esprit corrompu, privés de la vérité, aux yeux de qui lapiété est une source de profits.
6 But piety with sufficiency is great gain.	6 Profitable, oui, la piété l'est grandement pour qui se contente de ce qu'il a.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and there is no doubt that we can take nothing away.	7 Car nous n'avons rien apporté dans le monde et de même nous n'en pouvons rien emporter.
8 But, having nourishment and some kind of covering, we should be content with these.	8 Lors donc que nous avons nourriture et vêtement, sachons être satisfaits.
9 For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many useless and harmful desires, which submerge men in destruction and in perdition.	9 Quant à ceux qui veulent amasser des richesses, ils tombent dans la tentation, dans le piège,dans une foule de convoitises insensées et funestes, qui plongent les hommes dans la ruine et la perdition.
10 For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.	10 Car la racine de tous les maux, c'est l'amour de l'argent. Pour s'y être livrés, certains se sontégarés loin de la foi et se sont transpercé l'âme de tourments sans nombre.
11 But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and truly pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness.	11 Pour toi, homme de Dieu, fuis tout cela. Poursuis la justice, la piété, la foi, la charité, laconstance, la douceur.
12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you have been called, and make a good profession of faith in the sight of many witnesses.	12 Combats le bon combat de la foi, conquiers la vie éternelle à laquelle tu as été appelé et envue de laquelle tu as fait ta belle profession de foi en présence de nombreux témoins.
13 I charge you, in the sight of God, who enlivens all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave the testimony of a good profession under Pontius Pilate,	13 Je t'en prie devant Dieu qui donne la vie à toutes choses et devant le Christ Jésus qui, sousPonce Pilate, a rendu son beau témoignage,
14 to observe the commandment, immaculately, irreproachably, unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.	14 garde le commandement sans tache et sans reproche, jusqu'à l'Apparition de notre SeigneurJésus Christ,
15 For at the proper time, he shall reveal the blessed and only Power, the King of kings and the Lord of lords,	15 que fera paraître aux temps marqués le Bienheureux et unique Souverain, le Roi des rois etSeigneur des seigneurs,
16 who alone holds immortality, and who inhabits the inaccessible light, whom no man has seen, nor even is able to see, to whom is honor and everlasting dominion. Amen.	16 le seul qui possède l'immortalité, qui habite une lumière inaccessible, que nul d'entre leshommes n'a vu ni ne peut voir. A lui appartiennent honneur et puissance à jamais! Amen.
17 Instruct the wealthy of this age not to have a superior attitude, nor to hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who offers us everything in abundance to enjoy,	17 Aux riches de ce monde, recommande de ne pas juger de haut, de ne pas placer leurconfiance en des richesses précaires, mais en Dieu qui nous pourvoit largement de tout, afin que nous enjouissions.
18 and to do good, to become rich in good works, to donate readily, to share,	18 Qu'ils fassent le bien, s'enrichissent de bonnes oeuvres, donnent de bon coeur, sachentpartager;
19 to gather for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may obtain true life.	19 de cette manière, ils s'amassent pour l'avenir un solide capital, avec lequel ils pourrontacquérir la vie véritable.
20 O Timothy, guard what has been deposited with you, avoiding the voice of profane novelties and of opposing ideas, which are falsely called knowledge.	20 O Timothée, garde le dépôt. Evite les discours creux et impies, les objections d'une pseudo-science.
21 Certain persons, promising these things, have perished from the faith. May grace be with you. Amen.	21 Pour l'avoir professée, certains se sont écartés de la foi. La grâce soit avec vous!
