Now Saul, still breathing threats and beatings against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,1 Entretanto Saulo, respirando ainda ameaças e morte contra os discípulos do Senhor, apresentou-se ao sumo sacerdote
and he petitioned him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that, if he found any men or women belonging to this Way, he could lead them as prisoners to Jerusalem.2 e pediu-lhe cartas para as sinagogas de Damasco, com o fim de levar presos a Jerusalém quantos adeptos deste caminho (doutrina) encontrasse, homens e mulheres.
And as he made the journey, it happened that he was approaching Damascus. And suddenly, a light from heaven shone around him.3 Prosseguindo ele a sua jornada, aconteceu que, ao aproximar-se de Damasco, subitamente o cercou uma luz fulgurante vinda do céu.
And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”4 Caindo por terra, ouviu uma voz que lhe dizia: "Saulo, Saulo, por que me persegues?"
And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he: “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goad.”5 Ele disse: "Quem és tu, Senhor?" Ele (respondeu); "Eu sou Jesus, a quem tu persegues,
And he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do you want me to do?”6 Levanta-te, entra na cidade, e ai te será dito o que deves fazer."
And the Lord said to him, “Rise up and go into the city, and there you will be told what you ought to do.” Now the men who were accompanying him were standing stupefied, hearing indeed a voice, but seeing no one.7 Aqueles que o acompanhavam, estavam estupefactos, ouvindo a voz, mas não vendo ninguém.
Then Saul rose up from the ground. And upon opening his eyes, he saw nothing. So leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.8 Saulo levantou-se da terra e, tendo os olhos abertos, não via nada. Eles, porém, levando-o pela mão, o conduziram a Damasco.
And in that place, he was without sight for three days, and he neither ate nor drank.9 Esteve ali três dias sem ver, sem comer nem beber.
Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias!” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”10 Ora em Damasco havia um discípulo chamado Ananias. O Senhor, numa visão, disse-lhe: "Ananias!" Ele respondeu: "Eis-me aqui, Senhor."
And the Lord said to him: “Rise up and go into the street that is called Straight, and seek, in the house of Judas, the one named Saul of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying.”11 O Senhor disse-lhe: "Levanta-te, vai à rua chamada Direita, e busca em casa de Judas um (homem) de Tarso, chamado Saulo, porque ei-lo que está orando."
(And Paul saw a man named Ananias entering and imposing hands upon him, so that he might receive his sight.)12 (Neste mesmo tempo Saulo, em uma visão) viu um homem, chamado Ananias, que entrava e lhe impunha as mãos para recobrar a vista.
But Ananias responded: “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem.13 Ananias respondeu: "Senhor, tenho ouvido dizer a muitos quantos males este homem fez aos teus santos em Jerusalém:
And he has authority here from the leaders of the priests to bind all who invoke your name.”14 e aqui ele tem poder dos príncipes dos sacerdotes para prender todos os que invocam o teu nome."
Then the Lord said to him: “Go, for this one is an instrument chosen by me to convey my name before nations and kings and the sons of Israel.15 Mas o Senhor disse-lhe: "Vai, porque este é um instrumento escolhido por mim para levar o meu nome diante das gentes, dos reis e dos filhos de Israel.
For I will reveal to him how much he must suffer on behalf of my name.”16 Mostrar-lhe-ei quanto deve sofrer pelo meu nome."
And Ananias departed. And he entered the house. And laying his hands upon him, he said: “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, he who appeared to you on the way by which you arrived, sent me so that you would receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”17 Foi Ananias e entrou na casa, e, impondo-lhe as mãos, disse: "Irmão Saulo, o Senhor Jesus, que te apareceu no caminho por onde vinhas, enviou-me para que recuperes a vista e fiques cheio do Espírito Santo."
And immediately, it was as if scales had fallen from his eyes, and he received his sight. And rising up, he was baptized.18 Imediatamente, lhe caíram dos olhos umas como escamas, recuperou a vista, levantou-se e foi baptizado.
And when he had taken a meal, he was strengthened. Now he was with the disciples who were at Damascus for some days.19 Depois que tomou alimento, recuperou as forças. Esteve alguns dias com os discípulos que se encontravam em Damasco.
And he was continuously preaching Jesus in the synagogues: that he is the Son of God.20 Imediatamente, começou a pregar nas sinagogas que Jesus era o Filho de Deus.
And all who heard him were astonished, and they said, “Is this not the one who, in Jerusalem, was fighting against those invoking this name, and who came here for this: so that he might lead them away to the leaders of the priests?”21 Pasmavam todos os que ouviam e diziam: "Não é este aquele que perseguia em Jerusalém os que invocavam este nome, e não veio ele cá com o fim de os levar presos aos príncipes dos sacerdotes"
But Saul was increasing to a greater extent in ability, and so he was confounding the Jews who lived at Damascus, by affirming that he is the Christ.22 Entretanto Saulo muito mais se esforçava e confundia os Judeus que habitavam em Damasco, demonstrando-lhes que Jesus é o Cristo.
And when many days were completed, the Jews took counsel as one, so that they might put him to death.23 Tendo-se passado muitos dias, os Judeus em conselho resolveram matá-lo.
But their treachery became known to Saul. Now they were also watching the gates, day and night, so that they might put him to death.24 Porém Saulo foi advertido das suas ciladas. Eles faziam guarda às portas (da cidade), de dia e de noite, para o matarem.
But the disciples, taking him away by night, sent him over the wall by letting him down in a basket.25 Mas os discípulos, tomando-o de noite, desceram-no numa cesta, pela muralha.
And when he had arrived in Jerusalem, he attempted to join himself to the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.26 Tendo chegado a Jerusalém, procurava juntar-se com os discípulos, mas todos o temiam, não acreditando que ele fosse discípulo.
But Barnabas took him aside and led him to the Apostles. And he explained to them how he had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken to him, and how, in Damascus, he had acted faithfully in the name of Jesus.27 Então Barnabé, tomando-o consigo, o levou aos Apóstolos, e ele contou-lhes como tinha visto o Senhor no caminho, o qual lhe tinha falado, e como em Damasco pregara corajosamente em nome de Jesus.
And he was with them, entering and departing Jerusalem, and acting faithfully in the name of the Lord.28 Desde então ficou com eles em Jerusalém, entrando e saindo, e pregando corajosamente em nome do Senhor.
He also was speaking with the Gentiles and disputing with the Greeks. But they were seeking to kill him.29 Falava e discutia com os Helenistas; mas eles procuravam matá-lo.
And when the brothers had realized this, they brought him to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.30 Tendo sabido isto os irmãos, conduziram-no a Cesareia, e dai o enviaram a Tarso.
Certainly, the Church had peace throughout all of Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and it was being built up, while walking in the fear of the Lord, and it was being filled with the consolation of the Holy Spirit.31 Tinha então paz a Igreja por toda a Judeia, Galileia e Samaria, edificava-se e caminhava no temor do Senhor, e com a assistência do Espirito Santo ia-se multiplicando.
Then it happened that Peter, as he traveled around everywhere, came to the saints who were living at Lydda.32 Ora aconteceu que Pedro, indo por toda a parte, de cidade em cidade, foi também aos santos que habitavam em Lida.
But he found there a certain man, named Aeneas, who was a paralytic, who had lain in bed for eight years.33 Encontrou ali um homem, chamado Eneias, que havia oito anos jazia num leito, porque estava paralítico.
And Peter said to him: “Aeneas, the Lord Jesus Christ heals you. Rise up and arrange your bed.” And immediately he rose up.34 Pedro disse-lhe: "Eneias, Jesus Cristo cura-te. Levanta-te, e faze tu mesmo a tua cama." Imediatamente se levantou.
And all who were living in Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they were converted to the Lord.35 Viram-no todos os que habitavam em Lida e em Sarou, os quais se converteram ao Senhor.
Now in Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which in translation is called Dorcas. She was filled with the good works and almsgiving that she was accomplishing.36 Havia em Jope, entre os discípulos, uma mulher, chamada Tabita, (palavra) que, traduzida (em grego), quer dizer Dorcas. Estava cheia de boas obras e de esmolas que fazia.
And it happened that, in those days, she became ill and died. And when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.37 Aconteceu naqueles dias que, caindo enferma, morreu. Tendo-a lavado, puseram-na num quarto alto.
Now since Lydda was close to Joppa, the disciples, upon hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, asking him: “Do not be slow in coming to us.”38 Como Lida estava perto de Jope, os discípulos, ouvindo dizer que Pedro se encontrava lá, enviaram-lhe dois homens, rogando-lhe: "Não te demores em vir ter convosco."
Then Peter, rising up, went with them. And when he had arrived, they led him to an upper room. And all the widows were standing around him, weeping and showing him the tunics and garments that Dorcas had made for them.39 Pedro, levantando-se, foi com eles. Logo que chegou, levaram-no ao quarto alto, e cercaram-no todas as viúvas, chorando e mostrando-lhe as túnicas e os vestidos que Dorcas em vida lhes fazia.
And when they had all been sent outside, Peter, kneeling down, prayed. And turning to the body, he said: “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes and, upon seeing Peter, sat up again.40 Então Pedro, tendo mandado sair todos, pondo-se de joelhos, orou. Depois, voltando-se para o corpo, disse: "Tabita, levanta-te." Ela abriu os olhos, e, vendo Pedro, sentou-se.
And offering her his hand, he lifted her up. And when he had called in the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.41 Ele a fez levantar, dando-lhe a mão. Então, tendo chamado os santos e as viúvas, lha entregou viva.
Now this became known throughout all of Joppa. And many believed in the Lord.42 Este facto foi sabido por toda Jope, e muitos creram no Senhor.
And it happened that he resided for many days in Joppa, with a certain Simon, a tanner.43 Pedro ficou em Jope muitos dias, em casa de um certo Simão, curtidor.
