Sirach 36

1 O God of all, take pity on us, and look with favor on us, and show us the light of your compassion.	1 Tem piedade de nós, ó Deus de todas as coisas, volta para nós os teus olhos e mostra-nos a luz das tuas misericórdias;
2 And send your fear upon the Gentiles, who have not sought you, so that they may acknowledge that there is no God except you, and so that they may declare your great deeds.	2 espalha o teu temor sobre as nações, que te não buscaram, para que elas reconheçam que não há outro Deus senão tu, e publiquem as tuas maravilhas,
3 Lift up your hand over unbelieving nations, so that they may see your power.	3 Levanta a tua mão contra as nações estranhas, para que reconheçam o teu poder.
4 For just as, in their sight, you have been sanctified in us, so also, in our sight, you will be magnified in them.	4 Assim como diante dos seus olhos mostraste em nós a tua santidade, assim também, à nossa vista, mostra nelas a tua grandeza,
5 So may they know you, as we also have known you. For there is no God apart from you, O Lord.	5 para que reconheçam, como também nós reconhecemos, que fora de ti, Senhor, não há outro Deus.
6 Renew your signs, and work new wonders.	6 Renova os teus prodígios, faze novas maravilhas,
7 Glorify your hand and your right arm.	7 glorifica a tua mão e o teu braço direito.
8 Stir up your fury, and pour out your wrath.	8 Excita o teu furor e derrama a tua ira.
9 Take away our adversary, and afflict our enemy.	9 Destrói o adversário e aflige o inimigo.
10 Hasten the time, and remember the end, so that they may declare your miracles.	10 Apressa o tempo, lembra-te do fim, para que publiquem as tuas maravilhas.
11 Let those who escape be devoured by the wrath of fire. And let those who harass your people find perdition.	11 Na voracidade das chamas consumido seja o que escapar, e os que tiranizam o teu povo caiam na perdição.
12 Crush the head of the leaders of the enemies, for they say: “There is no other beside us.”	12 Esmaga a cabeça aos chefes dos inimigos, que dizem: Não há outro (Senhor) fora de nós.
13 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, so that they may acknowledge that there is no God except you, and so that they may declare your great deeds. And you will inherit them, as from the beginning.	13 Ajunta todas as tribos de Jacob, para que conheçam que não há outro Deus senão tu, para que publiquem as tuas grandezas, e sejam herança tua como o foram desde o principio.
14 Take pity on your people, over whom your name has been invoked, and on Israel, whom you have treated as your firstborn.	14 Tem misericórdia do teu povo, que foi chamado do teu nome, e de Israel, a quem tu tens tratado como teu primogênito.
15 Take pity on Jerusalem, the city of your sanctification, the city of your rest.	15 Tem piedade da cidade que santificaste, de Jerusalém, cidade do teu repouso.
16 Fill Zion with your ineffable words, and fill your people with your glory.	16 Enche Sião das tuas palavras inefáveis, e o teu povo da tua glória.
17 Give testimony to those who have been your creations from the beginning, and lift up the prophecies which the former prophets spoke in your name.	17 Dá testemunho em favor daqueles que, desde o princípio, são tuas criaturas, e suscita (o cumprimento dos) oráculos que em teu nome proferiram os primeiros profetas.
18 Give a reward to those who endure for you, so that your prophets may be found to be faithful. And heed the prayers of your servants,	18 Dá a recompensa aos que pacientemente esperam em ti, para que os teus profetas sejam achados fiéis; ouve as orações dos teus servos,
19 in accord with the blessing of Aaron over your people. And direct us in the way of justice, and let all who inhabit the earth know that you are God, the Beholder of all ages.	19 segundo a bênção de Aarão ao teu povo, e encaminha-nos pela estrada da justiça, a fim de que todos os que habitam a terra saibam que tu és o Deus que contempla os séculos.
20 The belly can devour any food, yet one meal is better than another.	20 O estômago recebe toda a casta de alimentos, mas entre os alimentos um é melhor que outro.
21 The palate tests the meat of wild animals, and the understanding heart tests false words.	21 O paladar discerne pelo gosto o prato de caça, e o coração sensato as palavras mentirosas.
22 A corrupt heart will cause grief, and a man of experience will resist it.	22 O coração depravado causa tristeza, mas o homem hábil resistir-lhe-á.
23 A woman can receive any male, yet one daughter is better than another.	23 A mulher pode tomar por esposo a qualquer homem, mas entre as filhas uma é melhor que outra.
24 The beauty of a wife cheers the face of her husband, and rises above his desire, above all the desires of man.	24 A formosura da mulher alegra o rosto do seu marido, e ultrapassa todos os desejos do homem.
25 If she offers healing words, then she both comforts and shows mercy; and so her husband is not like other men.	25 Se a sua língua sabe curar, possui também a doçura e a bondade: o seu marido não será (infeliz ou pouco feliz) como os (outros) filhos dos homens.
26 He who holds to a good wife establishes a possession. She is a helper in agreement with him, and she is a pillar of rest.	26 O que possui uma mulher boa começa a formar a sua fortuna; tem um auxílio, que lhe é semelhante, e uma coluna de apoio.
27 Where there is no hedge, a possession will be trampled. And where there is no wife, he will mourn her absence.	27 Onde não há sebe, será roubada a fazenda; onde não há mulher, o homem suspira na indigência.
28 Who will trust one who has no nest, and who conceals himself wherever his course may take him, like a well-equipped robber passing from city to city?	28 Quem é que se fia daquele que não tem ninho, que passa a noite onde quer que ela o surpreende, como salteador pronto para tudo, que vagueia de cidade em cidade?
