Sirach 26

1 Blessed is the husband of a good wife. For the number of his years is doubled.	1 Fortunato il marito di una brava moglie, il numero dei suoi giorni sarà doppio.
2 A good wife delights her husband, and she will fill up the years of his life with peace.	2 Una donna valorosa è la gioia del marito, egli passerà in pace i suoi anni.
3 A good wife is a good portion. She will be given the portion of those who fear God, like a man who has done good deeds.	3 Una brava moglie è davvero una fortuna, viene assegnata a chi teme il Signore.
4 But, rich or poor, with a good heart, his countenance will be cheerful at all times.	4 Ricco o povero, il suo cuore è contento, in ogni circostanza il suo volto è gioioso.
5 Of three things, my heart has been afraid, and at a fourth, my face has shown dread:	5 Di tre cose il mio cuore ha paura, e per la quarta sono spaventato: una calunnia diffusa in città, un tumulto di popolo e una falsa accusa, sono cose peggiori della morte;
6 an accusation made by a city, and the gathering of a mob,	6 ma crepacuore e lutto è una donna gelosa di un’altra, il flagello della sua lingua fa presa su tutti.
7 and a deceitful false accusation. All these are more grievous than death.	7 Giogo di buoi sconnesso è una cattiva moglie, chi la prende è come chi afferra uno scorpione.
8 A jealous wife is a grief and a mourning to the heart.	8 Motivo di grande sdegno è una donna che si ubriaca, non riuscirà a nascondere la sua vergogna.
9 In a jealous wife, there is a scourge of the tongue, which communicates with everyone.	9 Una donna sensuale ha lo sguardo eccitato, la si riconosce dalle sue occhiate.
10 Like a yoke of oxen being provoked, so also is a wicked wife. He who has hold of her is like one who has taken hold of a scorpion.	10 Fa’ buona guardia a una figlia sfrenata, perché non ne approfitti, se trova indulgenza.
11 An inebriated wife is a great wrath. And her disgrace and indecency will not be covered.	11 Guàrdati dalla donna che ha lo sguardo impudente, non meravigliarti se poi ti fa del male.
12 The fornication of a wife will become known by the haughtiness of her eyes and by her eyelids.	12 Come un viandante assetato apre la bocca e beve qualsiasi acqua a lui vicina, così ella siede davanti a ogni palo e apre a qualsiasi freccia la faretra.
13 So that her daughter will not also turn away, keep a strict watch; otherwise, having found an opportunity, she may enjoy herself.	13 La grazia di una donna allieta il marito, il suo senno gli rinvigorisce le ossa.
14 Be wary of the irreverence of her eyes, and you should not wonder if she might disregard you.	14 È un dono del Signore una donna silenziosa, non c’è prezzo per una donna educata.
15 Like a thirsty traveler, she will open her mouth to the fountain, and she will drink from every water nearby, and she will sit down beside every fencepost, and she will open her quiver to every arrow, until she becomes weary.	15 Grazia su grazia è una donna pudica, non si può valutare il pregio di una donna riservata.
16 The grace of an attentive wife will delight her husband, and will fatten his bones.	16 Il sole risplende nel più alto dei cieli, la bellezza di una brava moglie nell’ornamento della casa.

20 And no amount of money is equal to the value of a soul with self-restraint.	20 Cerca nella pianura un campo fertile per gettarvi il tuo seme, attendendo la progenie.
21 Like the sun rising over the world in the high places of God, so the beauty of a good wife is the adornment of her house.	21 Così i frutti che lascerai, fieri della loro nobiltà, prospereranno.
22 Like a lamp shining atop a holy lampstand, so is the beauty of a face in the mature stage of life.	22 La donna pagata vale uno sputo, se è sposata, è torre di morte per quanti la usano.
23 Like golden pillars upon bases of silver, so are the firm feet of a mature wife upon the soles of her feet.	23 La moglie empia l’avrà in sorte il peccatore, quella pia sarà data a chi teme il Signore.
24 Like everlasting foundations upon a solid rock, so are the commandments of God in the heart of a holy wife.	24 La donna impudica cerca sempre il disonore, una figlia pudica è riservata anche con il marito.
25 By two things, my heart is greatly saddened, and at a third, anger overwhelms me:	25 La donna sfrontata viene stimata come un cane, quella che ha pudore teme il Signore.
26 a man of war failing because of dire need, and an understanding man treated with contempt,	26 La donna che onora il marito a tutti appare saggia, quella orgogliosa che lo umilia sarà empia per tutti. Felice il marito di una brava moglie, il numero dei suoi giorni sarà raddoppiato.
27 and anyone who crosses over from justice to sin. God has prepared such a one for the spear.	27 La donna che grida ed è chiacchierona è come tromba di guerra che suona la carica. L’uomo che si trova in simili condizioni passa la vita tra rumori di guerra.
28 Two kinds of things have seemed difficult and dangerous to me: a merchant will not be easily freed from his negligence, and a shopkeeper will not be justified by the sins of his lips.	28 Due cose rattristano il mio cuore, e una terza mi provoca collera: un guerriero che languisce nella miseria, uomini saggi trattati con disprezzo e chi passa dalla giustizia al peccato: il Signore lo tiene pronto per la spada.
	29 È difficile che il commerciante sia esente da colpe e il rivenditore sia indenne da peccato.
