Sirach 21

1 Son, have you sinned? You should not add further sins. Then too, for your former sins, pray so that they may be forgiven you.	1 Figliuolo, tu peccasti? or non peccare più; ma priega (Iddio) per li primi peccati, ch' elli ti sieno perdonati.
2 Flee from sins, as if from the face of a serpent. For if you approach them, they will take hold of you.	2 Fuggi li peccati, come tu fuggiresti dalla faccia del serpente; e se tu anderai a loro, elli ti riceveranno.
3 Their teeth are like the teeth of a lion, bringing death to the souls of men.	3 Li denti suoi, denti di leone, li quali uccidono l'anima degli uomini.
4 All iniquity is like a two-edged spear; there is no healing in its wound.	4 Ogni iniquità sì è come una spada con due punte; della piaga di quella non si sana.
5 Reproach and injury will make resources useless. And a house that is exceedingly wealthy will become powerless through pride. In this way, the resources of the arrogant will be eradicated.	5 La contenzione e le ingiurie annullaranno la ricchezza; e la casa che è molto ricca, annullerà per la superbia; così la sostanza del superbo si dibasserae.
6 Supplications from the mouth of the pauper will reach all the way to the ears of God, and judgment will come to him quickly.	6 Il prego del povero della bocca (infino agli occhi e) infino all' orecchie verrae, e l'affrettato giudicio verrà a colui.
7 Whoever hates correction is walking in the steps of a sinner. But whoever fears God will convert within his heart.	7 Chi odia la correzione, è segno di peccatore; e chi teme Iddio, si converte al cuore suo.
8 He who has power by means of a bold tongue will be known from far away. But an understanding man knows to slip past him.	8 Conosciuto è da lunga il potente per l'ardita lingua; e il savio sa guardare sè medesimo nel suo parlare.
9 Whoever builds his house, paid for by another, is like one who gathers his building stones in winter.	9 Chi edifica la casa sua alle altrui spese è sì come colui che ricoglie le pietre sue il verno.
10 The synagogue of sinners is like stubble piled up; for the end of them both is a burning fire.	10 Stoppa raccolta è la sinagoga de' peccatori; e la fine di quelli è fiamma di fuoco.
11 The way of sinners is paved and level, and at their end is hell and darkness and punishments.	11 La via de' peccanti è compiantata di pietre; e nella fine di quelli tenebre e pene d' inferno.
12 Whoever observes justice will obtain an understanding of it.	12 Chi guarda giustizia, riceve il senno suo.
13 The consummation of the fear of God is wisdom and understanding.	13 Il compimento del timore di Dio è sapienza e senno.
14 One who is not wise in goodness will not accept instruction.	14 Non fia ammaestrato colui che non è savio nel bene.
15 Now there is a wisdom which abounds in evil. But there is no understanding where there is bitterness.	15 Egli è stoltezza quella che abbonda nel male; e non è senno là dove è amaritudine.
16 The knowledge of the wise will increase like a flood, and his counsel will continue like a fountain of life.	16 La scienza del savio abonderà come piena d'acqua; e lo consiglio di colui abonda sì come fonte di vita.
17 The heart of the foolish is like a broken vessel, for it will not hold any wisdom.	17 Il cuore del pazzo sì come vaso spezzato, e non terrae alcuna sapienza.
18 A knowledgeable man will praise any wise word he hears, and he will apply it to himself. The self-indulgent man has heard it, and it displeases him, and so he casts it behind his back.	18 Il savio, qualunche parola del savio udirae, loderae e aggiugneravvi; udilla il lussurioso, e dispiacqueli, e gittolla dopo il dorso suo.
19 The talk of the foolish is like a burden on a journey. But in the lips of the understanding, grace will be found.	19 La narrazione del pazzo è sì come il peso nella via; nelle labbra del savio si troverae grazia.
20 The mouth of the prudent is sought in the Church, and they will consider his words in their hearts.	20 La bocca del prudente è cercata nella chiesa; e penseranno le parole di colui nelli cuori suoi.
21 Like a house which has been demolished, so is wisdom to the foolish. And the knowledge of the unwise is like meaningless words.	21 Sì come casa sterminata, così la sapienza al pazzo; e la scienza del disensato, parole da non dire.
22 Doctrine to the senseless is like fetters on the feet, and like chains on the right hand.	22 Li ceppi nel piede al matto sono dottrina, e sì come legami della mano diritta.
23 A foolish man lifts up his voice in laughter. But a wise man will not even laugh quietly to himself.	23 Il pazzo alza la voce quando ride; ma il savio appena tacitamente ride.
24 Doctrine is to the prudent like a gold ornament, and like an armband on the right arm.	24 Ornamento d'oro è al prudente la dottrina, e sì come bracciale nel braccio diritto.
25 The feet of the foolish step easily into his neighbor’s house. But an experienced man will be apprehensive in the presence of the powerful.	25 Il piede del pazzo eleggerà d'andare nella casa del prossimo; e l' uomo savio si vergogna della persona del potente.
26 A senseless man will gaze through a window into the house. But a man who has been well-taught will stand outside.	26 Lo stolto dalla finestra guarda nella casa; l'uomo ammaestrato starae di fuori.
27 It is foolish for a man to listen through the door. And a prudent man will be grieved at this disgrace.	27 Stoltezza di uomo è ascoltare per la porta; il prudente si graverae pure di vedere quella villania.
28 The lips of the imprudent will describe senseless things. But the words of the prudent will be weighed on a balance.	28 Gli labbri degli sciocchi straboccano cose sciocche; ma le parole de' prudenti si peseranno colla stadera.
29 The hearts of the foolish are in their mouths. But the mouths of the wise are with their hearts.	29 Nella bocca de' pazzi è il cuore loro; e nel cuore de' savii la bocca loro.
30 Whenever the impious curse the devil, they curse their own soul.	30 Quando il malvagio maledice il diavolo, sì maledice l'anima sua.
31 Those who whisper accusations defile their own souls, and they will be hated by all. And whoever abides with them will be hateful. The silent and understanding man will be honored.	31 Il mormoratore sozzoe l'anima sua, e in tutte le cose fia odiato; e colui che persevererae [con lui] fia odioso; il tacito e il savio sarà onorato.
