Proverbs 11

1 A deceitful scale is an abomination with the Lord, and a fair weighing is his will.	1 Falsche Waage ist dem Herrn ein Greuel und richtiges Gewicht sein Wohlgefallen.
2 Wherever arrogance may be, there too is insult. But wherever humility is, there too is wisdom.	2 Kommt Übermut, so kommt auch Schande, doch bei Bescheidenen ist Weisheit.
3 The simplicity of the just shall direct them, and the rebellion of the perverse will devastate them.	3 Die Unschuld führt zum Ziel die Redlichen, Verderbtheit macht zunichte die Verbrecher.
4 Wealth will not profit in the day of vengeance. But justice shall liberate from death.	4 Reichtum nützt am Tag des Zornes nichts, Gerechtigkeit jedoch bewahrt vor Tod.
5 The justice of the simple shall direct his way. And the impious will fall in his impiety.	5 Des Lauteren Gerechtigkeit macht eben seinen Weg, der Frevler aber kommt zu Fall durch seine Schlechtigkeit.
6 The justice of the upright shall free them. And the iniquitous will be seized by their own treachery.	6 Der Redlichen Gerechtigkeit bringt ihnen Rettung, Verbrecher aber fangen sich in ihrer Gier.
7 When the impious man is dead, there will no longer be any hope. And the expectation of the anxious will perish.	7 Beim Tod des (schlechten) Menschen schwindet alle Hoffnung, und die Erwartungen der Toren sind zunichte.
8 The just one is freed from anguish. And the impious one will be handed over instead of him.	8 Gerettet aus der Not wird der Gerechte, und an seine Stelle rückt der Frevler.
9 The pretender deceives his friend by mouth. But the just shall be freed by knowledge.	9 Durch seinen Mund verführt der Schurke seinen Nächsten, aber die Gerechten retten sich durch Einsicht.
10 In the good of the just, the city shall exult. And in the perdition of the impious, there shall be praise.	10 Beim Glücke der Gerechten jauchzt die Stadt, und Jubel herrscht beim Untergang der Frevler.
11 By the blessing of the just, the city shall be exalted. And by the mouth of the impious, it will be subverted.	11 Die Stadt blüht auf beim Segen Redlicher, doch abgerissen wird sie durch den Mund der Frevler.
12 Whoever despises his friend is destitute in heart. But the prudent man will remain silent.	12 Der Tor behandelt seinen Nächsten mit Verachtung, ein kluger Mann jedoch hüllt sich in Schweigen.
13 Whoever walks dishonestly reveals secrets. But whoever is of a faithful soul conceals what is confided by a friend.	13 Wer herumläuft als Verleumder, der verrät Geheimnisse; wer aber zuverlässig ist, kann etwas still für sich behalten.
14 Where there is no governor, the people shall fall. But where there is much counsel, well-being shall be.	14 Wenn kluge Überlegung mangelt, kommt ein Volk zu Fall; in reichlicher Beratung aber ist das Heil gelegen.
15 He will be afflicted with evil, who provides a guarantee for an outsider. But whoever is wary of traps shall be secure.	15 Schlimm geht es aus, wenn man für andre bürgt; wer aber Handschlag ablehnt, der geht sicher.
16 A gracious woman shall discover glory. And the robust will have wealth.	16 Zu Ehren kommt die liebenswürdige Frau; ein Schandfleck ist die Frau, die Tugend haßt. Den Faulen geht die Habe aus; wer fleißig ist, gelangt zu Reichtum.
17 A merciful man benefits his own soul. But whoever is cruel casts out even his close relatives.	17 Wer gütig ist, erquickt sich selbst; wer grausam ist, der quält sich selbst.
18 The impious does work with inconstancy. But for the sower of justice, there is the reward of faithfulness.	18 Der Frevler erntet trügerische Zinsen, doch festen Lohn, wer sät Gerechtigkeit.
19 Clemency prepares life. And the pursuit of evils prepares death.	19 Wer feststeht in Gerechtigkeit, gelangt zum Leben, wer aber nach dem Bösen jagt, zu seinem Tod.
20 A depraved heart is abominable to the Lord. And his will is with those who walk in simplicity.	20 Ein Greuel ist dem Herrn, wer falschen Herzens ist; sein Wohlgefallen sind die schuldlos Wandelnden.
21 Hand in hand, the evil shall not be innocent. But the offspring of the just shall be saved.	21 Die Hand darauf: der Böse bleibt nicht ungestraft, doch Rettung findet das Geschlecht der Frommen.
22 A beautiful and senseless woman is like a gold ring in the snout of a swine.	22 Ein goldner Ring im Rüssel eines Schweines - ein schönes Weib, doch ohne Zartgefühl.
23 The desire of the just is entirely good. The anticipation of the impious is fury.	23 In Glück nur endet das Begehren der Gerechten, in Zorn jedoch der Frevelhaften Hoffnung.
24 Some distribute their own goods, and they become wealthier. Others seize what is not their own, and they are always in need.	24 Mancher teilt (an Arme) aus und wird noch reicher, und mancher spart wohl mehr als recht und kommt in Not.
25 The soul that blesses shall be made fat. And whoever inebriates will likewise be inebriated himself.	25 Wer gerne gibt, wird gelabt, und wer erquickt, wird selbst erquickt.
26 Whoever hides away grain shall be cursed among the people. But a blessing is upon the head of those who sell it.	26 Wer Korn zurückhält, den verwünscht das Volk; doch Segen kommt auf den herab, der Korn verkauft.
27 He does well to rise early, who seeks what is good. But whoever is a seeker of evils shall be oppressed by them.	27 Wer Gutes anstrebt, sucht das Wohlgefallen (Gottes), und wer nach Bösem trachtet, den ereilt es auch.
28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall. But the just shall spring up like a green leaf.	28 Wer sich verläßt auf seinen Reichtum, kommt zu Fall; Gerechte aber sprießen gleich dem Laub.
29 Whoever troubles his own house will possess the winds. And whoever is foolish will serve the wise.	29 Wer sich nicht kümmert um sein Haus, der erntet Wind; derTor wird Knecht bei dem, der weise ist.
30 The fruit of the just one is the tree of life. And whoever receives souls is wise.	30 Die Frucht des Rechttuns ist ein Lebensbaum, Gewalttat aber raubt das Leben.
31 If the just are repaid upon the earth, how much more the impious and the sinner!	31 Wenn dem Gerechten selbst vergolten wird auf Erden, um wieviel mehr dem Frevler und dem Sünder!
