Exodus 21

1 “These are the judgments which you shall place before them:	1 "Voici les lois que tu leur donneras.
2 If you buy a Hebrew servant, six years shall he serve you; in the seventh, he shall depart freely, without charge.	2 Lorsque tu acquerras un esclave hébreu, son service durera six ans, la septième année il s'en ira,libre, sans rien payer.
3 With whatever clothing he arrived, with the like let him depart. If he has a wife, his wife also shall depart, at the same time.	3 S'il est venu seul, il s'en ira seul, et s'il était marié, sa femme s'en ira avec lui.
4 But if his lord gave him a wife, and she has borne sons and daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her lord. Yet still, he himself will go out with his clothing.	4 Si son maître le marie et que sa femme lui donne des fils ou des filles, la femme et ses enfantsresteront la propriété du maître et lui s'en ira seul.
5 And if the servant will say, ‘I love my lord, and my wife and children, I will not depart freely,’	5 Mais si l'esclave dit: J'aime mon maître, ma femme et mes enfants, je ne veux pas être libéré,
6 then his lord shall make an offering for him to the heavens, and it shall be applied to the door and the posts, and he will pierce his ear with an awl. And he shall be his servant in perpetuity.	6 son maître le fera s'approcher de Dieu, il le fera s'approcher du vantail ou du montant de la porte; illui percera l'oreille avec un poinçon et l'esclave sera pour toujours à son service.
7 If anyone sells his daughter to be a servant, she shall not depart as a female servant is accustomed to go out.	7 Si quelqu'un vend sa fille comme servante, elle ne s'en ira pas comme s'en vont les esclaves.
8 If she displeases the eyes of her lord, to whom she had been delivered, he shall dismiss her. But he shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, even if he despises her.	8 Si elle déplaît à son maître qui se l'était destinée, il la fera racheter; il ne pourra la vendre à unpeuple étranger, usant ainsi de fraude envers elle.
9 But if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall treat her according to the custom with daughters.	9 S'il la destine à son fils, il la traitera selon la coutume en vigueur pour les filles.
10 And if he takes another for him, he shall provide to the maiden a marriage, and clothing, and he shall not refuse the price of her chastity.	10 S'il prend pour lui-même une autre femme, il ne diminuera pas la nourriture, le vêtement ni lesdroits conjugaux de la première.
11 If he does not do these three things, she shall depart freely, without money.	11 S'il la frustre de ces trois choses, elle s'en ira sans rien payer, sans verser d'argent.
12 Whoever strikes a man, intending to murder, shall be put to death.	12 "Quiconque frappe quelqu'un et cause sa mort sera mis à mort.
13 But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God delivered him into his hands, then I will appoint for you a place to which he must flee.	13 S'il ne l'a pas traqué mais que Dieu l'a mis à portée de sa main, je te fixerai un lieu où il pourra seréfugier.
14 If someone murders his neighbor with deliberation, by lying in wait, you shall tear him away from my altar, so that he may die.	14 Mais si un homme va jusqu'à en tuer un autre par ruse, tu l'arracheras même de mon autel pourqu'il soit mis à mort.
15 Whoever strikes his father or mother shall die a death.	15 Qui frappe son père ou sa mère sera mis à mort.
16 Whoever will have stolen a man and sold him, having been convicted of the crime, shall be put to death.	16 Qui enlève un homme -- qu'il l'ait vendu ou qu'on le trouve en sa possession -- sera mis à mort.
17 Whoever speaks evil of his father or mother shall die a death.	17 Qui maudit son père ou sa mère sera mis à mort.
18 If men will have quarreled, and one of them has struck his neighbor with a stone or a fist, and he does not die, but lies in bed,	18 "Si des hommes se querellent et que l'un frappe l'autre avec une pierre ou avec le poing de tellesorte qu'il n'en meure pas mais doive garder le lit, s'il se relève et peut circuler dehors, fût-ce appuyé sur unbâton,
19 if he gets up again and can walk outside on his staff, he who struck him will be innocent, but only if he makes sufficient restitution for his deeds and for the cost of the physicians.	19 celui qui a frappé sera quitte, mais il devra le dédommager pour son immobilisation et le soignerjusqu'à sa guérison.
20 Whoever strikes his male or female servant with a staff, and if they have died by his hands, he shall be guilty of a crime.	20 Si quelqu'un frappe son esclave ou sa servante avec un bâton et que celui-ci meure sous sa main, ilsubira la vengeance.
21 But if he survives for one day or two, he shall not be subject to punishment, because it is his money.	21 Mais s'il survit un jour ou deux il ne sera pas vengé, car il a été acquis à prix d'argent.
22 If men will have quarreled, and one of them has struck a pregnant woman, and as a result she miscarries, but she herself survives, he shall be subject to as much damage as the husband of the woman shall petition from him, or as arbitrators shall judge.	22 Si des hommes, en se battant, bousculent une femme enceinte et que celle-ci avorte mais sans autreaccident, le coupable paiera l'indemnité imposée par le maître de la femme, il paiera selon la décision desarbitres.
23 But if her death will have followed, he will repay a life for a life,	23 Mais s'il y a accident, tu donneras vie pour vie,
24 an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot,	24 oeil pour oeil, dent pour dent, pied pour pied,
25 a scrape for a scrape, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.	25 brûlure pour brûlure, meurtrissure pour meurtrissure, plaie pour plaie.
26 If anyone will have struck the eye of his male or female servant, having left them with one eye, he shall release them freely, because of the eye that he has put out.	26 Si un homme frappe l'oeil de son esclave ou l'oeil de sa servante et l'éborgne, il lui rendra la libertéen compensation de son oeil.
27 Likewise, if he knocks out a tooth of his male or female servant, he shall similarly release them freely.	27 Et s'il fait tomber une dent de son esclave ou une dent de sa servante, il lui rendra la liberté encompensation de sa dent.
28 If an ox has struck a man or a woman with his horn, and if they die, it shall be stoned. And its flesh shall not be eaten; also, the owner of the ox will be innocent.	28 Si un boeuf encorne un homme ou une femme et cause sa mort, le boeuf sera lapidé et l'on n'enmangera pas la viande, mais le propriétaire du boeuf sera quitte.
29 But if the ox had been pushing with his horn, from yesterday and the day before, and they warned his owner, but he did not confine it, and it will have killed a man or a woman, then the ox shall be stoned, and his owner shall be killed.	29 Mais si le boeuf donnait déjà de la corne auparavant, et que le propriétaire, averti de cela, ne l'a passurveillé, s'il cause la mort d'un homme ou d'une femme, ce boeuf sera lapidé et son propriétaire sera mis à mort.
30 But if they have imposed a price on him, he shall give, in exchange for his life, whatever is asked.	30 Si on lui impose une rançon, il devra donner pour le rachat de sa vie tout ce qui lui est imposé.
31 Likewise, if it has struck a son or a daughter with its horns, it shall be subject to a similar verdict.	31 Si c'est un garçon ou une fille qu'il encorne, on le traitera selon cette coutume.
32 If it attacks a male or female servant, he shall give thirty shekels of silver to their lord, yet truly the ox shall be stoned.	32 Si c'est un esclave ou une servante que le boeuf encorne, son propriétaire versera le prix -- 30sicles -- à leur maître, et le boeuf sera lapidé.
33 If a man digs or opens a cistern, and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,	33 Si quelqu'un laisse une citerne ouverte, ou si quelqu'un creuse une citerne sans la couvrir et qu'unboeuf ou un âne y tombe,
34 then the owner of the cistern shall repay the price of the beasts, and what is dead will belong to him.	34 le propriétaire de la citerne indemnisera, il dédommagera en argent son propriétaire, et la bêtemorte sera pour lui.
35 If the ox of a stranger wounds the ox of another, and it has died, then they shall sell the live ox and divide the price, but the carcass of the dead one they shall distribute between them.	35 Si le boeuf de quelqu'un frappe le boeuf d'autrui et cause sa mort, les propriétaires vendront leboeuf vivant et s'en partageront le prix, ils se partageront aussi la bête morte.
36 But if he knew that his ox had pushed with its horns, yesterday and the day before, and its owner did not confine it, then he shall repay an ox for an ox, and he will receive the whole carcass.”	36 Mais s'il est notoire que le boeuf donnait de la corne auparavant, et que son propriétaire ne l'a passurveillé, il donnera un boeuf vivant en compensation du boeuf mort, et la bête morte sera pour lui.
	37 "Si quelqu'un vole un boeuf ou un agneau puis l'abat et le vend, il rendra cinq têtes de gros bétailpour le boeuf et quatre têtes de petit bétail pour l'agneau.
