1 “These are the judgments which you shall place before them:	1 Voici les lois que tu leur dicteras:
2 If you buy a Hebrew servant, six years shall he serve you; in the seventh, he shall depart freely, without charge.	2 Si tu achètes un esclave hébreu, il te servira pendant six ans, et la septième année il partira libre, sans payer de rançon.
3 With whatever clothing he arrived, with the like let him depart. If he has a wife, his wife also shall depart, at the same time.	3 S’il est entré seul à ton service, il partira seul. S’il était marié, sa femme partira avec lui.
4 But if his lord gave him a wife, and she has borne sons and daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her lord. Yet still, he himself will go out with his clothing.	4 Si son maître lui a donné une femme qui lui a enfanté des fils ou des filles, la femme et les enfants appartiennent au maître, l’esclave partira seul.
5 And if the servant will say, ‘I love my lord, and my wife and children, I will not depart freely,’	5 Mais si l’esclave dit: J’aime mon maître, ma femme et mes enfants, je ne veux pas profiter de ma liberté,
6 then his lord shall make an offering for him to the heavens, and it shall be applied to the door and the posts, and he will pierce his ear with an awl. And he shall be his servant in perpetuity.	6 son maître le fera approcher de Dieu. Il le conduira vers le battant ou le montant de la porte, et là son maître lui percera l’oreille avec un poinçon; dès lors il restera pour toujours à son service.
7 If anyone sells his daughter to be a servant, she shall not depart as a female servant is accustomed to go out.	7 Si un homme a vendu sa fille comme esclave, elle ne partira pas comme n’importe quelle esclave.
8 If she displeases the eyes of her lord, to whom she had been delivered, he shall dismiss her. But he shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, even if he despises her.	8 Si elle ne plaît pas à son maître qui devait la prendre, et qu’il la laisse racheter, il ne pourra pas la vendre à un étranger après lui avoir manqué de parole.
9 But if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall treat her according to the custom with daughters.	9 S’il la donne à son fils, il agira envers elle selon le droit des filles.
10 And if he takes another for him, he shall provide to the maiden a marriage, and clothing, and he shall not refuse the price of her chastity.	10 S’il en prend une autre pour lui, il ne retranchera rien sur sa nourriture, sur ses vêtements ou sur son logement.
11 If he does not do these three things, she shall depart freely, without money.	11 Et s’il ne fait pas pour elle ces trois choses, elle pourra partir sans payer de rançon, sans verser d’argent.
12 Whoever strikes a man, intending to murder, shall be put to death.	12 Celui qui frappe quelqu’un et cause sa mort, devra mourir.
13 But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God delivered him into his hands, then I will appoint for you a place to which he must flee.	13 S’il l’a tué involontairement, simplement parce que Dieu a disposé les choses ainsi, il pourra se mettre à l’abri de la vengeance dans un lieu que je te fixerai.
14 If someone murders his neighbor with deliberation, by lying in wait, you shall tear him away from my altar, so that he may die.	14 Par contre, si un homme se jette sur son prochain pour le tuer par traîtrise, tu iras le chercher, même réfugié près de mon autel, et tu le mettras à mort.
15 Whoever strikes his father or mother shall die a death.	15 Celui qui frappe son père ou sa mère sera mis à mort.
16 Whoever will have stolen a man and sold him, having been convicted of the crime, shall be put to death.	16 Celui qui a enlevé quelqu’un pour le vendre, si on le trouve chez lui, il sera mis à mort.
17 Whoever speaks evil of his father or mother shall die a death.	17 Celui qui maudit son père ou sa mère sera mis à mort.
18 If men will have quarreled, and one of them has struck his neighbor with a stone or a fist, and he does not die, but lies in bed,	18 Si, au cours d’une querelle, un homme en frappe un autre avec une pierre ou avec le poing, et que celui-ci ne meurt pas mais doit rester au lit;
19 if he gets up again and can walk outside on his staff, he who struck him will be innocent, but only if he makes sufficient restitution for his deeds and for the cost of the physicians.	19 si ensuite le blessé peut se lever et se promener dehors avec une canne, celui qui l’a frappé sera quitte. Mais il devra le dédommager pour son immobilisation et pour ses soins.
20 Whoever strikes his male or female servant with a staff, and if they have died by his hands, he shall be guilty of a crime.	20 Si un homme frappe son esclave ou sa servante avec un bâton et que l’autre meure sur le coup, l’esclave sera vengé.
21 But if he survives for one day or two, he shall not be subject to punishment, because it is his money.	21 Mais s’il vit encore un jour ou deux, on ne le vengera pas, car il est la propriété de son maître.
22 If men will have quarreled, and one of them has struck a pregnant woman, and as a result she miscarries, but she herself survives, he shall be subject to as much damage as the husband of the woman shall petition from him, or as arbitrators shall judge.	22 Si, en se battant, des hommes bousculent une femme enceinte et qu’elle avorte sans autre dommage, le mari de la femme fixera l’amende, et le coupable paiera selon la décision des juges.
23 But if her death will have followed, he will repay a life for a life,	23 Mais s’il arrive un malheur, tu paieras vie pour vie,
24 an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot,	24 œil pour œil, dent pour dent, main pour main, pied pour pied,
25 a scrape for a scrape, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.	25 brûlure pour brûlure, blessure pour blessure, plaie pour plaie.
26 If anyone will have struck the eye of his male or female servant, having left them with one eye, he shall release them freely, because of the eye that he has put out.	26 Si un homme a frappé son esclave ou sa servante à l’œil, et que l’œil soit perdu, il lui rendra la liberté en échange de son œil.
27 Likewise, if he knocks out a tooth of his male or female servant, he shall similarly release them freely.	27 S’il a fait tomber une dent de son esclave ou de sa servante, il lui rendra la liberté en échange de sa dent.
28 If an ox has struck a man or a woman with his horn, and if they die, it shall be stoned. And its flesh shall not be eaten; also, the owner of the ox will be innocent.	28 Si un bœuf blesse avec sa corne un homme ou une femme, et que la victime meure, le bœuf sera lapidé. On ne mangera pas sa viande, mais le propriétaire du bœuf sera quitte.
29 But if the ox had been pushing with his horn, from yesterday and the day before, and they warned his owner, but he did not confine it, and it will have killed a man or a woman, then the ox shall be stoned, and his owner shall be killed.	29 Mais si un bœuf depuis quelque temps donnait des coups de cornes, et que son maître le savait et ne l’a pas surveillé, si ce bœuf cause la mort d’un homme ou d’une femme, le bœuf sera lapidé et le maître sera mis à mort.
30 But if they have imposed a price on him, he shall give, in exchange for his life, whatever is asked.	30 Si cependant on lui permet de racheter sa vie à prix d’argent, il paiera tout ce qui lui sera demandé.
31 Likewise, if it has struck a son or a daughter with its horns, it shall be subject to a similar verdict.	31 Si le bœuf blesse de sa corne un fils ou une fille, on agira de la même façon.
32 If it attacks a male or female servant, he shall give thirty shekels of silver to their lord, yet truly the ox shall be stoned.	32 Mais si c’est un esclave ou une servante que le bœuf a blessé de sa corne, on paiera 30 pièces d’argent au maître de l’esclave et le bœuf sera lapidé.
33 If a man digs or opens a cistern, and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,	33 Si un homme a laissé une citerne ouverte, ou s’il a creusé une citerne sans la recouvrir, et qu’un bœuf ou un âne y tombe,
34 then the owner of the cistern shall repay the price of the beasts, and what is dead will belong to him.	34 le propriétaire de la citerne versera une indemnité en argent au maître de la bête et gardera la bête pour lui.
35 If the ox of a stranger wounds the ox of another, and it has died, then they shall sell the live ox and divide the price, but the carcass of the dead one they shall distribute between them.	35 Si quelqu’un a eu son bœuf mortellement blessé par le bœuf de quelqu’un d’autre, ils vendront le bœuf vivant et se partageront l’argent de la vente ainsi que la bête morte.
36 But if he knew that his ox had pushed with its horns, yesterday and the day before, and its owner did not confine it, then he shall repay an ox for an ox, and he will receive the whole carcass.”	36 Mais s’il est connu que depuis quelque temps le bœuf donnait des coups de cornes, et que son maître ne l’a pas surveillé, il devra payer bœuf pour bœuf et la bête morte sera pour lui.
	37 Si un homme vole un bœuf ou une brebis, puis l’égorge et le vend, il paiera cinq têtes de gros bétail pour le bœuf, et quatre de petit bétail pour la brebis.
