1 After these things were done, it was reported to Joseph that his father was sick. And taking his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim, he went directly to him.	1 Après cela on vint dire un jour à Joseph que son père était malade ; alors prenant avec lui ses deux fils Manassé et Ephraïm, il l'alla voir.
2 And it was told to the old man, “Behold, your son Joseph is coming to you.” And being strengthened, he sat up in bed.	2 On dit donc à Jacob : Voici votre fils Joseph qui vient vous voir. Jacob, reprenant ses forces, se mit sur son séant dans son lit.
3 And when he had entered to him, he said: “Almighty God appeared to me at Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, and he blessed me.	3 Et il dit à Joseph lorsqu'il fut entré : Le Dieu tout-puissant m'a apparu à Luza, qui est au pays de Chanaan ; et m'ayant béni,
4 And he said: ‘I will increase and multiply you, and I will make you influential among the people. And I will give this land to you, and to your offspring after you, as an everlasting possession.’	4 il m'a dit : Je ferai croître et multiplier beaucoup ta race ; je te rendrai le chef d'une multitude de peuples, et je te donnerai cette terre, et à ta race (postérité) après toi, afin que tu la possèdes à jamais.
5 Therefore, your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came here to you, will be mine. Ephraim and Manasseh will be treated by me just like Reuben and Simeon.	5 C'est pourquoi tes deux fils Ephraïm et Manassé, que tu as eus en Egypte avant que je vinsse ici auprès de toi, seront à moi, et ils seront mis au nombre de mes enfants, comme Ruben et Siméon.
6 But the remainder, whom you will conceive after them, will be yours, and they will be called by the name of their brothers among their possessions.	6 Mais les autres que tu auras après eux seront à toi, et ils porteront le nom de leurs frères dans les terres qu'ils posséderont.
7 As for me, when I came from Mesopotamia, Rachel died in the land of Canaan on the very journey, and it was springtime. And I entered Ephrath and buried her next to the way of Ephrath, which by another name is called Bethlehem.”	7 Car lorsque je revenais de Mésopotamie je perdis Rachel, qui mourut en chemin, au pays de Chanaan : c'était au printemps, à l'entrée d'Ephrata, et je l'enterrai sur le chemin d'Ephrata, qui s'appelle aussi Bethléhem.
8 Then, seeing his sons, he said to him: “Who are these?”	8 Alors Jacob, voyant les fils de Joseph, lui demanda : Qui sont ceux-ci ?
9 He responded, “They are my sons, whom God gave to me as a gift in this place.” “Bring them to me,” he said, “so that I may bless them.”	9 Joseph lui répondit : Ce sont mes enfants (fils), que Dieu m'a donnés dans ce pays. Approche-les de moi, dit Jacob, afin que je les bénisse.
10 For Israel’s eyes were clouded by reason of his great age, and he was unable to see clearly. And when they were placed up against him, he kissed and embraced them.	10 Car les yeux d'Israël s'étaient obscurcis à cause de sa grande vieillesse, et il ne pouvait bien voir. Les ayant donc fait approcher de lui, il les embrassa et les baisa ;
11 And he said to his son: “I have not been cheated out of seeing you. Moreover, God has shown me your offspring.”	11 et il dit à son fils : Dieu m'a voulu donner la joie de te voir, et il y ajoute encore celle de voir tes enfants (ta postérité).
12 And when Joseph had taken them from his father’s lap, he reverenced prone on the ground.	12 Joseph, les ayant retirés d'entre les bras de son père, (adora) en se prosternant à (incliné vers la) terre.
13 And he placed Ephraim on his right, that is, towards the left hand of Israel. Yet truly Manasseh was on his left, namely, towards his father’s right hand. And he placed them both up against him.	13 Et (Puis) ayant mis Ephraïm à sa droite, c'est-à-dire à la gauche d'Israël, et Manassé à sa gauche, c'est-à-dire à la droite de son père, il les approcha tous deux de Jacob ;
14 And he, extending his right hand, placed it over the head of Ephraim, the younger brother, but the left hand was on the head of Manasseh, who was the elder, so that his hands were crossed.	14 lequel, étendant sa main droite, la mit sur la tête d'Ephraïm, qui était le plus jeune, et mit sa main gauche sur la tête de Manassé, qui était l'aîné, changeant ainsi ses deux mains de place.
15 And Jacob blessed the sons of Joseph, and he said: “God, in whose sight my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, God who pastured me from my youth until the present day,	15 Et bénissant les enfants de Joseph, il dit : Que le Dieu en la présence de qui ont marché mes pères Abraham et Isaac, le Dieu qui me nourrit depuis ma jeunesse jusqu'à ce jour ;
16 the Angel, who rescues me from all evils: bless these boys. And let my name be invoked over them, and also the names of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac. And may they increase into a multitude across the earth.”	16 que l'ange qui m'a délivré de tous maux, bénisse ces enfants ; qu'ils portent mon nom, et les noms de mes pères Abraham et Isaac, et qu'ils se multiplient de plus en plus sur la terre.
17 But Joseph, seeing that his father had placed his right hand over the head of Ephraim, took it gravely. And grasping his father’s hand, he tried to lift it from Ephraim’s head and transfer it onto the head of Manasseh.	17 Mais Joseph, voyant que son père avait mis sa main droite sur la tête d'Ephraïm, en eut de la (une grande) peine ; et prenant la main de son père, il tâcha de la lever de dessus la tête d'Ephraïm, pour la mettre sur la tête de Manassé,
18 And he said to his father: “It should not have come to pass this way, father. For this one is the firstborn. Place your right hand over his head.”	18 en disant à son père : Vos mains ne sont pas bien, mon père, car celui-ci est l'aîné. Mettez votre main droite sur sa tête.
19 But refusing, he said: “I know, my son, I know. And this one, indeed, will be among the people and will be multiplied. But his younger brother will be greater than he. And his offspring will increase among the nations.”	19 Mais, refusant de le faire, il lui dit : Je le sais, mon fils, je le sais ; lui aussi sera chef de peuples, et sa race (il) se multipliera ; mais son frère, qui est plus jeune, sera plus grand que lui, et sa postérité se multipliera dans les nations.
20 And he blessed them at that time, saying: “In you, Israel will be blessed, and it will be said: ‘May God treat you like Ephraim, and like Manasseh.’ ” And he established Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 Jacob les bénit donc alors, et dit : Israël sera béni en vous, et on dira : Que Dieu vous bénisse comme Ephraïm et Manassé. Ainsi il mit Ephraïm avant Manassé.
21 And he said to his son Joseph: “See, I am dying, and God will be with you, and he will lead you back to the land of your fathers.	21 Il dit ensuite à Joseph son fils : Vous voyez que je vais mourir, Dieu sera avec vous, et il vous ramènera au pays de vos pères.
22 I give you one part beyond that of your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow.”	22 Je te donne de plus qu'à tes frères cette part de mon bien que j'ai gagnée sur les Amorrhéens avec mon épée et mon arc.
