NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 One of the seven angels that had the seven bowls came to speak to me, and said, 'Come here and Iwil show you the punishment of the great prostitute who is enthroned beside abundant waters,	1 Alors l'un des sept Anges aux sept coupes s'en vint me dire: "Viens, que je te montre lejugement de la Prostituée fameuse, assise au bord des grandes eaux;
2 with whom al the kings of the earth have prostituted themselves, and who has made al the populationof the world drunk with the wine of her adultery.'	2 c'est avec elle qu'ont forniqué les rois de la terre, et les habitants de la terre se sont saoulés duvin de sa prostitution."
3 He took me in spirit to a desert, and there I saw a woman riding a scarlet beast which had sevenheads and ten horns and had blasphemous titles written al over it.	3 Il me transporta au désert, en esprit. Et je vis une femme, assise sur une Bête écarlate couvertede titres blasphématoires et portant sept têtes et dix cornes.
4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet and glittered with gold and jewels and pearls, and shewas holding a gold winecup fil ed with the disgusting filth of her prostitution;	4 La femme, vêtue de pourpre et d'écarlate, étincelait d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles; elletenait à la main une coupe en or, remplie d'abominations et des souillures de sa prostitution.
5 on her forehead was written a name, a cryptic name: 'Babylon the Great, the mother of al theprostitutes and all the filthy practices on the earth.'	5 Sur son front, un nom était inscrit - un mystère! - "Babylone la Grande, la mère des prostituéeset des abominations de la terre.
6 I saw that she was drunk, drunk with the blood of the saints, and the blood of the martyrs of Jesus;and when I saw her, I was completely mystified.	6 Et sous mes yeux, la femme se saoulait du sang des saints et du sang des martyrs de Jésus. Asa vue, je fus bien stupéfait;
7 The angel said to me, 'Do you not understand? I wil tel you the meaning of this woman, and of thebeast she is riding, with the seven heads and the ten horns.	7 mais l'Ange me dit: "Pourquoi t'étonner? Je vais te dire, moi, le mystère de la femme et de laBête qui la porte, aux sept têtes et aux dix cornes.
8 'The beast you have seen was once alive and is alive no longer; it is yet to come up from the Abyss,but only to go to its destruction. And the people of the world, whose names have not been written since thebeginning of the world in the book of life, wil be astonished when they see how the beast was once alive and isalive no longer, and is stil to come.	8 "Cette Bête-là, elle était et elle n'est plus; elle va remonter de l'Abîme, mais pour s'en aller à saperte; et les habitants de la terre, dont le nom ne fut pas inscrit dès l'origine du monde dans le livre de vie,s'émerveilleront au spectacle de la Bête, de ce qu'elle était, n'est plus, et reparaîtra.
9 'This cal s for shrewdness. The seven heads are the seven hil s, on which the woman is sitting.	9 C'est ici qu'il faut un esprit doué de finesse! Les sept têtes, ce sont sept collines sur lesquellesla femme est assise. "Ce sont aussi sept rois,
10 The seven heads are also seven emperors. Five of them have already gone, one is here now, andone is yet to come; once here, he must stay for a short while.	10 dont cinq ont passé, l'un vit, et le dernier n'est pas encore venu; une fois là, il faut qu'ildemeure un peu.
11 The beast, who was alive and is alive no longer, is at the same time the eighth and one of the seven,and he is going to his destruction.	11 Quant à la Bête qui était et n'est plus, elle-même fait le huitième, l'un des sept cependant; ils'en va à sa perte.
12 'The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet been given their royal power but willhave royal authority only for a single hour and in association with the beast.	12 Et ces dix cornes-là, ce sont dix rois; ils n'ont pas encore reçu de royauté, ils recevront unpouvoir royal, pour une heure seulement, avec la Bête.
13 They are all of one mind in putting their strength and their powers at the beast's disposal,	13 Ils sont tous d'accord pour remettre à la Bête leur puissance et leur pouvoir.
14 and they wil go to war against the Lamb; but because the Lamb is Lord of lords and King of kings, hewil defeat them, he and his fol owers, the cal ed, the chosen, the trustworthy.'	14 Ils mèneront campagne contre l'Agneau, et l'Agneau les vaincra, car il est Seigneur desseigneurs et Roi des rois, avec les siens: les appelés, les choisis, les fidèles.
15 The angel continued, 'The waters you saw, beside which the prostitute was sitting, are al thepeoples, the populations, the nations and the languages.	15 "Et ces eaux-là, poursuivit l'Ange, où la Prostituée est assise, ce sont des peuples, des foules,des nations et des langues.
16 But the ten horns and the beast will turn against the prostitute, and tear off her clothes and leave herstark naked; then they wil eat her flesh and burn the remains in the fire.	16 Mais ces dix cornes-là et la Bête, ils vont prendre en haine la Prostituée, ils la dépouillerontde ses vêtements, toute nue, ils en mangeront la chair, ils la consumeront par le feu;
17 In fact, God has influenced their minds to do what he intends, to agree together to put their royalpowers at the beast's disposal until the time when God's words shal be fulfilled.	17 car Dieu leur a inspiré la résolution de réaliser son propre dessein, de se mettre d'accord pourremettre leur pouvoir royal à la Bête, jusqu'à l'accomplissement des paroles de Dieu.
18 The woman you saw is the great city which has authority over all the rulers on earth.'	18 Et cette femme-là, c'est la Grande Cité, celle qui règne sur les rois de la terre."
