1 Not long after this, at the time of the wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife, with a kid; he said, 'I wishto go to my wife in her room.' But her father would not let him enter.	1 Qualche tempo dopo, alla stagione della mietitura, Sansone tornò a far visita a sua moglie, portandole in dono un capretto. Avrebbe voluto entrare in camera di sua moglie, ma il padre di lei non lo fece passare,
2 'I felt sure', he said, 'that you had taken a real dislike to her, so I gave her to your companion. Butwould not her younger sister suit you better? Have her instead.'	2 dandogli queste spiegazioni: "Credevo proprio che tu odiassi fortemente mia figlia; per questo l'ho data in sposa al tuo paraninfo. Ma la sorella minore è ancora più bella. Prendi questa al posto dell'altra!".
3 But Samson answered them, 'I can get my revenge on the Philistines now only by doing them somedamage.'	3 Ma Sansone rispose loro: "Questa volta sono innocente del male che farò ai Filistei!".
4 So Samson went off and caught three hundred foxes, then took torches and, turning the foxes tail totail, put a torch between each pair of tails.	4 Così detto, Sansone se ne andò, catturò trecento volpi e si procurò delle torce. Poi unì gli animali a due a due, legandoli per la coda, e inserì una torcia nel punto in cui le code erano legate.
5 He lit the torches and set the foxes free in the Philistines' cornfields. In this way he burned bothsheaves and standing corn, and the vines and olive trees as wel .	5 Dato fuoco alle torce, spinse avanti le bestie contro i covoni di grano che i Filistei avevano già innalzato e andò bruciato tutto: dal grano affastellato a quello già ammucchiato nei covoni, dalle vigne agli uliveti.
6 The Philistines asked, 'Who has done this?' and received the answer, 'Samson, who married theTimnite's daughter; his father-in-law took the wife back again and gave her to his companion instead.' ThePhilistines then went and burned the woman and her father's family to death.	6 I Filistei ricercarono l'autore di quello scempio e seppero che era stato Sansone, il genero del timnita, e che aveva fatto ciò perché il timnita aveva preso la moglie di Sansone e l'aveva data in sposa al suo paraninfo. Allora i Filistei andarono a bruciare la donna e suo padre.
7 Samson said to them, 'If that is how you behave, I swear I wil not rest till I have had my revenge onyou.'	7 Disse loro Sansone: "Avete fatto ciò? Non avrò pace finché non mi sarò vendicato di voi!".
8 And he fel on them systematical y and caused great havoc. Then he went down to the cave in theRock of Etham and lived there.	8 E li percosse l'uno sull'altro, facendo una grande strage. Poi scese ad abitare in una caverna della rupe di Etam.
9 The Philistines came up and encamped in Judah and made a foray against Lehi.	9 Allora i Filistei si mossero e vennero a porre il campo nel territorio di Giuda, spargendosi a predare nella zona di Lechi.
10 The men of Judah said to them, 'Why are you attacking us?' They replied, 'We have come to seizeSamson and to treat him as he has treated us.'	10 Gli uomini di Giuda chiesero ai Filistei per quale motivo avessero loro mosso guerra ed essi risposero: "Siamo venuti per catturare Sansone, per fare a lui quello che ha fatto a noi".
11 Three thousand men of Judah then went down to the cave of the Rock of Etham and said to him,'Don't you know that the Philistines have us in their power? Now what have you done to us?' He replied, 'I havetreated them only as they treated me.'	11 Allora tremila uomini di Giuda scesero alla caverna della rupe di Etam e dissero a Sansone: "Non lo sapevi che i Filistei sono nostri padroni? Perché ci hai messo in questi guai?". Sansone si giustificò con loro: "Ho fatto a loro quello che hanno fatto a me!".
12 They then said, 'We have come down to take you, to hand you over to the Philistines.' He said,'Swear to me not to kill me yourselves.'	12 Gli uomini di Giuda ripresero: "Siamo venuti per legarti e consegnarti nelle mani dei Filistei". Sansone disse: "Giuratemi che non mi ucciderete voi".
13 They replied, 'No; we only want to bind you and hand you over to them; we certainly do not want tokil you.' They then bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the Rock.	13 Essi lo rassicurarono: "No; noi ci limiteremo a legarti e a consegnarti nelle loro mani, ma non ti uccideremo". Così, legatolo con due corde nuove, lo trassero fuori della caverna.
14 As he was approaching Lehi, and the Philistines came running towards him with triumphant shouts,the spirit of Yahweh was on him; the ropes on his arms became like burnt strands of flax and the cords round hishands came untied.	14 Quando Sansone arrivò a Lechi, i Filistei gli si fecero incontro urlando, pieni di esultanza. Allora lo spirito del Signore discese sopra di lui: le corde che legavano le sue braccia divennero come stoppini bruciacchiati e i legami si sfilacciarono cadendo dalle sue mani.
15 Coming across the fresh jawbone of a donkey, he reached out and snatched it up; and with it heslaughtered a thousand men.	15 Vide accanto a sé una mascella d'asino ancora fresca: la prese, e, impugnatala, colpì con essa mille uomini.
16 And Samson said: With the jawbone of a donkey I have laid them in heaps, with the jawbone of adonkey I have fel ed a thousand men.	16 Sansone disse: "Con la mascella d'un asino io li ho ben maciullati, con la mascella d'un asino ho colpito mille uomini!".
17 And with that he hurled the jawbone away; and that is why the place was cal ed Ramath-Lehi.	17 Detto questo, gettò via la mascella e il luogo dov'essa cadde fu chiamato Ramat-Lechi.
18 And as he was very thirsty, he cal ed on Yahweh and said, 'You yourself have worked this greatdeliverance by the hand of your servant; and now must I die of thirst and fal into the hands of theuncircumcised?'	18 Poiché a Sansone era venuta una gran sete, invocò il Signore con queste parole: "Per mezzo del tuo servo, tu hai concesso questa grande vittoria; e dovrebbe ora morire di sete e cadere in mano degli incirconcisi?".
19 Then God opened a hol ow in the ground, the hol ow there is at Lehi, and water gushed out of it.Samson drank; his vigour returned and he revived. And therefore this spring was called En-ha-Kore; it is still atLehi today.	19 Allora Dio fece un foro nell'avvallamento che si trova in Lechi, dal quale sgorgò l'acqua. Sansone bevve, si sentì riavere e si rianimò. Perciò quella fonte fu chiamata En-korè, e mantiene ancor oggi questo nome in Lechi.
20 Samson was judge in Israel in the days of the Philistines for twenty years.	20 Sansone fu giudice in Israele per venti anni al tempo dei Filistei.
