1 My dear friends, this is the second letter I have written to you, trying to awaken in you by my remindersan unclouded understanding.	1 Ecco, che io scrivo a voi, o carissimi, questa seconda lettera, per risvegliare coll'ammonirvi il sincero animo vostro:
2 Remember what was said in the past by the holy prophets and the command of the Lord and Saviourgiven by your apostles.	2 Affinchè vi ricordiate delle parole de' santi profeti, delle quali ho già parlato, e de' vostri Apostoli, e de' precetti del Signore, e Salvatore:
3 First of al , do not forget that in the final days there wil come sarcastic scoffers whose life is ruled bytheir passions.	3 E sappiate primieramente, che verranno negli ultimi giorni degli schernitori gabbamondi, viventi a seconda delle loro concupiscenze,
4 'What has happened to the promise of his coming?' they wil say, 'Since our Fathers died everythinghas gone on just as it has since the beginning of creation!'	4 I quali diranno: dov' è la promessa, o la venuta di lui? Mentre, dacché i padri si addormentarono, il tutto va continuando a un modo, come dal principio della creazione.
5 They deliberately ignore the fact that long ago there were the heavens and the earth, formed out ofwater and through water by the Word of God,	5 Imperocché ignorano costoro, perché lo vogliono, che furon da prima per la parola di Dio i cieli, e la terra (uscita) dall'acqua, e che ha consistenza per l'acqua:
6 and that it was through these same factors that the world of those days was destroyed by thefloodwaters.	6 Onde quel mondo, che era allora, inondato dall'acque perì.
7 It is the same Word which is reserving the present heavens and earth for fire, keeping them til the Dayof Judgement and of the destruction of sinners.	7 Ma i cieli, che sono adesso, e la terra dalla stessa parola son custoditi, riserbati al fuoco pel giorno del giudicio, e della perdizione degli uomini empj.
8 But there is one thing, my dear friends, that you must never forget: that with the Lord, a day is like athousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.	8 Questo solo però siavi noto, o carissimi, che un giorno è dinanzi a Dio come mille anni, e mille anni come un giorno.
9 The Lord is not being slow in carrying out his promises, as some people think he is; rather is he beingpatient with you, wanting nobody to be lost and everybody to be brought to repentance.	9 Non ritarda il Signore la sua promessa, come si pensan taluni: ma usa pazienza per riguardo a voi, non volendo, che alcuno perisca, ma che tutti, ritornino a penitenza.
10 The Day of the Lord wil come like a thief, and then with a roar the sky wil vanish, the elements wilcatch fire and melt away, the earth and al that it contains wil be burned up.	10 Ma come il ladro, verrà il di del Signore: nel quale i cieli con gran fracasso passeranno, e gli elementi dal calore saran disciolti, e la terra, e le cose, che sono in essa, saran brugiate.
11 Since everything is coming to an end like this, what holy and saintly lives you should be living	11 Or dovendo queste cose tutte esser disciolte, quali convien egli, che siate voi nel santo vivere, e nella, pietà,
12 while you wait for the Day of God to come, and try to hasten its coming: on that Day the sky wildissolve in flames and the elements melt in the heat.	12 Aspettando, e correndo, incontro alla venuta del dì del Signore, nel qual dì i cieli ardenti si scioglieranno, e gli elementi si liquefaranno per l'ardore del fuoco?
13 What we are waiting for, relying on his promises, is the new heavens and new earth, whereuprightness will be at home.	13 Ma nuovi cieli, e nuova terra secondo la promessa di lui aspettiamo, dove abita la giustizia.
14 So then, my dear friends, while you are waiting, do your best to live blameless and unsul ied lives sothat he wil find you at peace.	14 Per la qual cosa, o carissimi, tali cose aspettando, studiatevi di essere trovati da lui immacolati, e puri nella pace:
15 Think of our Lord's patience as your opportunity to be saved; our brother Paul, who is so dear to us,told you this when he wrote to you with the wisdom that he was given.	15 E la longanimità del Signor nostro tenete in luogo di salute: conformo anche il carissimo nostro fratello Paolo per la sapienza a lui conceduta vi scrisse,
16 He makes this point too in his letters as a whole wherever he touches on these things. In al his lettersthere are of course some passages which are hard to understand, and these are the ones that uneducated andunbalanced people distort, in the same way as they distort the rest of scripture -to their own destruction.	16 Come anche in tutte le epistole, dove parla di questo: nelle quali sono alcune cose difficili a capirsi, le quali gli ignoranti, e i poco stabili stravolgon (come anche tutte le altre scritture) per loro perdizione.
17 Since you have been forewarned about this, my dear friends, be careful that you do not come to thepoint of losing the firm ground that you are standing on, carried away by the errors of unprincipled people.	17 Voi adunque, o fratelli, istruiti per tempo state in guardia: affinchè traportati dall'error degli stolti non cadiate dalla vostra fermezza:
18 Instead, continue to grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Tohim be glory, in time and eternity. Amen.	18 Ma andate crescendo nella zia, e nella cognizione del Signor nostro, e Salvator Gesù Cristo. A lui gloria e adesso, e pel dì dell'eternità. Cosi sia.
