NEW JERUSALEMGREEK BIBLE
For we are well aware that when the tent that houses us on earth is folded up, there is a house for usfrom God, not made by human hands but everlasting, in the heavens.1 Διοτι εξευρομεν οτι εαν η επιγειος οικια του σκηνωματος ημων χαλασθη, εχομεν εκ του Θεου οικοδομην, οικιαν αχειροποιητον, αιωνιον εν τοις ουρανοις.
And in this earthly state we do indeed groan,2 Επειδη εν τουτω στεναζομεν, επιποθουντες να επενδυθωμεν το κατοικητηριον ημων το ουρανιον,
longing to put on our heavenly home over the present one; if indeed we are to be found clothed ratherthan stripped bare.3 αν και ενδυθεντες αυτο δεν θελωμεν ευρεθη γυμνοι.
Yes, indeed, in this present tent, we groan under the burden, not that we want to be stripped of ourcovering, but because we want to be covered with a second garment on top, so that what is mortal in us may beswal owed up by life.4 Διοτι οσοι ειμεθα εν τουτω τω σκηνωματι στεναζομεν υπο το βαρος αυτου? επειδη θελομεν ουχι να εκδυθωμεν, αλλα να επενδυθωμεν, δια να καταποθη το θνητον υπο της ζωης.
It is God who designed us for this very purpose, and he has given us the Spirit as a pledge.5 Εκεινος δε, οστις επλασεν ημας δι' αυτο τουτο, ειναι ο Θεος, οστις και εδωκεν εις ημας τον αρραβωνα του Πνευματος.
We are always ful of confidence, then, realising that as long as we are at home in the body we areexiled from the Lord,6 Εχοντες λοιπον το θαρρος παντοτε και εξευροντες οτι ενοσω ενδημουμεν εν τω σωματι αποδημουμεν απο του Κυριου?
guided by faith and not yet by sight;7 διοτι περιπατουμεν δια πιστεως, ουχι δια της οψεως?
we are ful of confidence, then, and long instead to be exiled from the body and to be at home with theLord.8 θαρρουμεν δε και επιθυμουμεν μαλλον να αποδημησωμεν απο του σωματος και να ενδημησωμεν προς τον Κυριον.
And so whether at home or exiled, we make it our ambition to please him.9 Οθεν και φιλοτιμουμεθα, ειτε ενδημουντες ειτε αποδημουντες, να ημεθα ευαρεστοι εις αυτον.
For at the judgement seat of Christ we are al to be seen for what we are, so that each of us mayreceive what he has deserved in the body, matched to whatever he has done, good or bad.10 Διοτι πρεπει παντες να εμφανισθωμεν εμπροσθεν του βηματος του Χριστου, δια να ανταμειφθη εκαστος κατα τα πεπραγμενα δια του σωματος καθ' α επραξεν, ειτε αγαθον ειτε κακον.
And so it is with the fear of the Lord always in mind that we try to win people over. But God sees us forwhat we are, and I hope your consciences do too.11 Εξευροντες λοιπον τον φοβον του Κυριου, τους μεν ανθρωπους καταπειθομεν, εις τον Θεον δε ειμεθα φανεροι, ελπιζω δε οτι και εις τας συνειδησεις σας ειμεθα φανεροι.
Again we are saying this not to commend ourselves to you, but simply to give you the opportunity totake pride in us, so that you may have an answer for those who take pride in appearances and not inner reality.12 Διοτι δεν συνιστωμεν παλιν εαυτους εις εσας, αλλα σας διδομεν αφορμην καυχηματος υπερ ημων, δια να εχητε λογον προς τους καυχωμενους με το προσωπον και ουχι με την καρδιαν.
If we have been unreasonable, it was for God; if reasonable, for you.13 Διοτι ειτε εξω εαυτων ειμεθα, δια τον Θεον ειμεθα, ειτε εμφρονες ειμεθα, δια σας ειμεθα.
For the love of Christ overwhelms us when we consider that if one man died for all, then al have died;14 Επειδη η αγαπη του Χριστου συσφιγγει ημας, διοτι κρινομεν τουτο, οτι εαν εις απεθανεν υπερ παντων, αρα οι παντες απεθανον?
his purpose in dying for all humanity was that those who live should live not any more for themselves, but for him who died and was raised to life.15 και απεθανεν υπερ παντων, δια να μη ζωσι πλεον δι' εαυτους οι ζωντες, αλλα δια τον αποθανοντα και ανασταντα υπερ αυτων.
From now onwards, then, we wil not consider anyone by human standards: even if we were oncefamiliar with Christ according to human standards, we do not know him in that way any longer.16 Ωστε ημεις απο του νυν δεν γνωριζομεν ουδενα κατα σαρκα? αν δε και εγνωρισαμεν κατα σαρκα τον Χριστον, αλλα τωρα πλεον δεν γνωριζομεν.
So for anyone who is in Christ, there is a new creation: the old order is gone and a new being is thereto see.17 Οθεν εαν τις ηναι εν Χριστω ειναι νεον κτισμα? τα αρχαια παρηλθον, ιδου, τα παντα εγειναν νεα.
It is all God's work; he reconciled us to himself through Christ and he gave us the ministry ofreconciliation.18 Τα δε παντα ειναι εκ του Θεου, οστις διηλλαξεν ημας προς εαυτον δια του Ιησου Χριστου και εδωκεν εις ημας την διακονιαν της διαλλαγης,
I mean, God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not holding anyone's faults against them, but entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.19 δηλονοτι ο Θεος ητο εν τω Χριστω διαλλασσων τον κοσμον προς εαυτον, μη λογαριαζων εις αυτους τα πταισματα αυτων, και ενεπιστευθη εις ημας τον λογον της διαλλαγης.
So we are ambassadors for Christ; it is as though God were urging you through us, and in the name ofChrist we appeal to you to be reconciled to God.20 Υπερ του Χριστου λοιπον ειμεθα πρεσβεις, ως εαν σας παρεκαλει ο Θεος δι' ημων? δεομεθα λοιπον υπερ του Χριστου, διαλλαγητε προς τον Θεον?
For our sake he made the sinless one a victim for sin, so that in him we might become the uprightnessof God.21 διοτι τον μη γνωρισαντα αμαρτιαν εκαμεν υπερ ημων αμαρτιαν, δια να γεινωμεν ημεις δικαιοσυνη του Θεου δι' αυτου.
