2 Corinthians 10

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 I urge you by the gentleness and forbearance of Christ -- this is Paul now speaking personal y-I, theone who is so humble when he is facing you but ful of boldness at a distance.	1 OR io Paolo vi esorto per la benignità, e mansuetudine di Cristo; io dico, che fra voi presente in persona ben sono umile; ma, assente, sono ardito inverso voi.
2 Yes, my appeal to you is that I should not have to be bold when I am actual y with you, or show thesame self-assurance as I reckon to use when I am chal enging those who reckon that we are guided by humanmotives.	2 E vi prego che, essendo presente, non mi convenga procedere animosamente con quella confidanza, per la quale son reputato audace, contro ad alcuni che fanno stima di noi, come se camminassimo secondo la carne.
3 For although we are human, it is not by human methods that we do battle.	3 Poichè, camminando nella carne, non guerreggiamo secondo la carne
4 The weapons with which we do battle are not those of human nature, but they have the power, inGod's cause, to demolish fortresses. It is ideas that we demolish,	4 perciocchè le armi della nostra guerra non son carnali, ma potenti a Dio alla distruzione delle fortezze,
5 every presumptuous notion that is set up against the knowledge of God, and we bring every thoughtinto captivity and obedience to Christ;	5 sovvertendo i discorsi, ed ogni altezza che si eleva contro alla conoscenza di Dio; e cattivando ogni mente all’ubbidienza di Cristo.
6 once you have given your complete obedience, we are prepared to punish any disobedience.	6 Ed avendo presta in mano la punizione d’ogni disubbidienza, quando la vostra ubbidienza sarà compiuta
7 Look at the evidence of your eyes. Anybody who is convinced that he belongs to Christ should go onto reflect that we belong to Christ no less than he does.	7 Riguardate voi alle cose che sono in apparenza? se alcuno si confida in sè stesso d’esser di Cristo, reputi altresì da sè medesimo questo: che, siccome egli è di Cristo, così ancora noi siam di Cristo.
8 Maybe I have taken rather too much pride in our authority, but the Lord gave us that for building youup, not for knocking you down, and I am not going to be shamed	8 Perciocchè, benchè io mi gloriassi ancora alquanto più della nostra podestà, che il Signore ci ha data, ed edificazione, e non a distruzion vostra, io non ne sarei svergognato.
9 into letting you think that I can put fear into you only by letter.	9 Ora, non facciasi stima di me, come se vi spaventassi per lettere.
10 Someone said, 'His letters are weighty enough, and ful of strength, but when you see him in person,he makes no impression and his powers of speaking are negligible.'	10 Perciocchè, ben sono, dice alcuno, le lettere gravi e forti; ma la presenza del corpo è debole, e la parola dispregevole.
11 I should like that sort of person to take note that our deeds when we are present wil show the samequalities as our letters when we were at a distance.	11 Il tale reputi questo: che, quali siamo assenti, in parola, per lettere; tali saremo ancora presenti, in fatti
12 We are not venturing to rank ourselves, or even to compare ourselves with certain people whoprovide their own commendations. By measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves tothemselves, they only show their fol y.	12 Perciocchè noi non osiamo aggiungerci, nè paragonarci con alcuni di coloro che si raccomandano loro stessi; ma essi, misurandosi per sè stessi, e paragonandosi con sè stessi, non hanno alcuno intendimento.
13 By contrast we do not intend to boast beyond measure, but wil measure ourselves by the standardwhich God laid down for us, namely that of having come al the way to you.	13 Ma, quant’è a noi, non ci glorieremo all’infinito; anzi, secondo la misura del limite che Iddio ci ha spartito come misura del nostro lavoro, ci glorieremo d’esser pervenuti infino a voi.
14 We are not overreaching ourselves as we would be if we had not come all the way to you; in fact wewere the first to come as far as you with the good news of Christ.	14 Perciocchè noi non ci distendiamo oltre il convenevole, come se non fossimo pervenuti infino a voi; poichè siam pervenuti eziandio fino a voi nella predicazione dell’evangelo di Cristo;
15 So we are not boasting beyond measure, about other men's work; in fact, we hope, as your faithincreases, to grow greater and greater by this standard of ours,	15 non gloriandoci all’infinito delle fatiche altrui; ma avendo speranza, che crescendo la fede vostra, saremo in voi abbondantemente magnificati, secondo i limiti assegnatici.
16 by preaching the gospel to regions beyond you, rather than boasting about work already done insomeone else's province.	16 Ed anche che noi evangelizzeremo ne’ luoghi, che son di là da voi; e non ci glorieremo nei limiti assegnati ad altrui, di cose preparate per altri.
17 Let anyone who wants to boast, boast of the Lord.	17 Ora, chi si gloria, gloriisi nel Signore.
18 For it is not through self-commendation that recognition is won, but through commendation.	18 Poichè, non colui che raccomanda sè stesso è approvato, ma colui che il Signore raccomanda
