1 Corinthians 9

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?	1 ¿Acaso yo no soy libre? ¿No soy Apóstol? ¿No he visto a Jesús, nuestro Señor? ¿No son ustedes mi obra en el Señor?
2 Even if to others I am not an apostle, to you at any rate I am, for you are the seal of my apostolate inthe Lord.	2 Si para otros yo no soy Apóstol, lo soy al menos para ustedes, porque ustedes son el sello de mi apostolado en el Señor.
3 To those who want to interrogate me, this is my answer.	3 ¡Esta es mi defensa contra los que me acusan!
4 Have we not every right to eat and drink?	4 ¿Acaso no tenemos derecho a comer y a beber,
5 And every right to be accompanied by a Christian wife, like the other apostles, like the brothers of theLord, and like Cephas?	5 a viajar en compañía de una mujer creyente, como lo hacen los demás Apóstoles, los hermanos del Señor y el mismo Cefas?
6 Are Barnabas and I the only ones who have no right to stop working?	6 ¿O bien, Bernabé y yo somos los únicos que estamos obligados a trabajar para subsistir?
7 What soldier would ever serve in the army at his own expense? And who is there who would plant avineyard and never eat the fruit from it; or would keep a flock and not feed on the milk from his flock?	7 ¿Qué soldado hace una campaña a sus propias expensas? ¿O quién planta una viña y no come de sus frutos? ¿O quién apacienta un rebaño y no se alimenta con la leche de las ovejas?
8 Do not think that this is merely worldly wisdom. Does not the Law say exactly the same? It is written inthe Law of Moses:	8 Aunque parezca que hablo en términos demasiado humanos, la Ley nos enseña lo mismo.
9 You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn. Is it about oxen that God is concernedhere,	9 Porque está escrito en la Ley de Moisés: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla. ¿Será que Dios se preocupa de los bueyes?
10 or is it not said entirely for our sake? Clearly it was written for our sake, because it is right thatwhoever ploughs should plough with the expectation of having his share, and whoever threshes should threshwith the expectation of having his share.	10 ¿No será que él habla de nosotros? Sí, esto se escribió por nosotros, porque el que ara tiene que arar con esperanza, y el que trilla el grano debe hacerlo con esperanza de recoger su parte.
11 If we have sown the seed of spiritual things in you, is it too much to ask that we should receive fromyou a crop of material things?	11 Si nosotros hemos sembrado en ustedes, bienes espirituales, ¿qué tiene de extraño que recojamos de ustedes bienes temporales?
12 Others have been given such rights over you and do we not deserve more? In fact, we have neverexercised this right; on the contrary, we have put up with anything rather than obstruct the gospel of Christ in anyway.	12 Si otros tienen este derecho sobre ustedes, ¿no lo tenemos nosotros con más razón? Sin embargo, nunca hemos hecho uso de él; por el contrario, lo hemos soportado todo para no poner obstáculo a la Buena Noticia de Cristo.
13 Do you not realise that the ministers in the Temple get their food from the Temple, and those whoserve at the altar can claim their share from the altar?	13 ¿No saben ustedes que los ministros del culto viven del culto, y que aquellos que sirven al altar participan del altar?
14 In the same way, the Lord gave the instruction that those who preach the gospel should get their livingfrom the gospel.	14 De la misma manera, el Señor ordenó a los que anuncian el Evangelio que vivan del Evangelio.
15 However, I have never availed myself of any rights of this kind; and I have not written this to securesuch treatment for myself; I would rather die than that . . . No one shal take from me this ground of boasting.	15 A pesar de todo, no he usado de ninguno de estos derechos; y no les digo esto para aprovecharme ahora de ellos; antes preferiría morir. No, nadie podrá privarme de este motivo de gloria.
16 In fact, preaching the gospel gives me nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion and I should bein trouble if I failed to do it.	16 Si anuncio el Evangelio, no lo hago para gloriarme: al contrario, es para mí una necesidad imperiosa. ¡Ay de mí si no predicara el Evangelio!
17 If I did it on my own initiative I would deserve a reward; but if I do it under compulsion I am simplyaccepting a task entrusted to me.	17 Si yo realizara esta tarea por iniciativa propia, merecería ser recompensado, pero si lo hago por necesidad, quiere decir que se me ha confiado una misión.
18 What reward do I have, then? That in my preaching I offer the gospel free of charge to avoid using therights which the gospel al ows me.	18 ¿Cuál es entonces mi recompensa? Predicar gratuitamente la Buena Noticia, renunciando al derecho que esa Buena Noticia me confiere.
19 So though I was not a slave to any human being, I put myself in slavery to al people, to win as manyas I could.	19 En efecto, siendo libre, me hice esclavo de todos, para ganar al mayor número posible.
20 To the Jews I made myself as a Jew, to win the Jews; to those under the Law as one under the Law(though I am not), in order to win those under the Law;	20 Me hice judío con los judíos para ganar a los judíos; me sometí a la Ley, con los que están sometidos a ella –aunque yo no lo estoy– a fin de ganar a los que están sometidos a la Ley.
21 to those outside the Law as one outside the Law, though I am not outside the Law but under Christ'slaw, to win those outside the Law.	21 Y con los que no están sometidos a la Ley, yo, que no vivo al margen de la Ley de Dios –porque estoy sometido a la Ley de Cristo– me hice como uno de ellos, a fin de ganar a los que no están sometidos a la Ley.
22 To the weak, I made myself weak, to win the weak. I accommodated myself to people in all kinds ofdifferent situations, so that by al possible means I might bring some to salvation.	22 Y me hice débil con los débiles, para ganar a los débiles. Me hice todo para todos, para ganar por lo menos a algunos, a cualquier precio.
23 Al this I do for the sake of the gospel, that I may share its benefits with others.	23 Y todo esto, por amor a la Buena Noticia, a fin de poder participar de sus bienes.
24 Do you not realise that, though al the runners in the stadium take part in the race, only one of themgets the prize? Run like that -- to win.	24 ¿No saben que en el estadio todos corren, pero uno solo gana el premio? Corran, entonces, de manera que lo ganen.
25 Every athlete concentrates completely on training, and this is to win a wreath that wil wither, whereasours wil never wither.	25 Los atletas se privan de todo, y lo hacen para obtener una corona que se marchita; nosotros, en cambio, por una corona incorruptible.
26 So that is how I run, not without a clear goal; and how I box, not wasting blows on air.	26 Así, yo corro, pero no sin saber adonde; peleo, no como el que da golpes en el aire.
27 I punish my body and bring it under control, to avoid any risk that, having acted as herald for others, Imyself may be disqualified.	27 Al contrario, castigo mi cuerpo y lo tengo sometido, no sea que, después de haber predicado a los demás, yo mismo quede descalificado.
