1 Corinthians 9

1 Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?	1 Moi-même, ne suis-je pas un homme libre? Ne suis-je pas un apôtre, n’ai-je pas vu Jésus, notre Seigneur, et n’êtes-vous pas le fruit de mon travail dans le Christ?
2 Even if to others I am not an apostle, to you at any rate I am, for you are the seal of my apostolate inthe Lord.	2 Si pour d’autres je ne suis pas apôtre, pour vous je le suis et vous êtes dans le Christ le certificat de ma mission d’apôtre.
3 To those who want to interrogate me, this is my answer.	3 Or écoutez comment je réponds à ceux qui me mettent en question:
4 Have we not every right to eat and drink?	4 N’avons-nous pas droit à ce qu’on nous donne à manger et à boire?
5 And every right to be accompanied by a Christian wife, like the other apostles, like the brothers of theLord, and like Cephas?	5 N’avons-nous pas le droit de nous faire accompagner par une femme, une sœur, comme font les autres apôtres et les frères du Seigneur, et Pierre lui-même?
6 Are Barnabas and I the only ones who have no right to stop working?	6 Sommes-nous les seuls, moi et Barnabé, à qui on refuse le droit de ne pas travailler?
7 What soldier would ever serve in the army at his own expense? And who is there who would plant avineyard and never eat the fruit from it; or would keep a flock and not feed on the milk from his flock?	7 Avez-vous vu un soldat qui s’engage à ses propres frais, ou un planteur qui ne mange pas des fruits de sa vigne, ou un berger qui se prive du lait de son troupeau?
8 Do not think that this is merely worldly wisdom. Does not the Law say exactly the same? It is written inthe Law of Moses:	8 Tout cela n’est pas seulement sagesse humaine, car la Loi dit la même chose.
9 You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn. Is it about oxen that God is concernedhere,	9 Il est écrit: N’empêche pas le bœuf de toucher au grain qu’il bat. Croyez-vous que Dieu s’inquiète pour les bœufs?
10 or is it not said entirely for our sake? Clearly it was written for our sake, because it is right thatwhoever ploughs should plough with the expectation of having his share, and whoever threshes should threshwith the expectation of having his share.	10 Non, tout cela vaut pour nous. Il s’agit de nous là où il est écrit que celui qui travaille en attend quelque chose et celui qui bat le grain compte en avoir sa part.
11 If we have sown the seed of spiritual things in you, is it too much to ask that we should receive fromyou a crop of material things?	11 Et si nous avons semé chez vous des richesses spirituelles, ne pouvons-nous pas récolter chez vous quelques avantages de ce monde?
12 Others have been given such rights over you and do we not deserve more? In fact, we have neverexercised this right; on the contrary, we have put up with anything rather than obstruct the gospel of Christ in anyway.	12 D’autres ont reçu leur part de ce que vous aviez; n’avions-nous pas de meilleures raisons qu’eux? Mais voilà: nous n’avons pas fait usage de ce droit et nous supportons tout plutôt que de mettre un obstacle à l’Évangile du Christ.
13 Do you not realise that the ministers in the Temple get their food from the Temple, and those whoserve at the altar can claim their share from the altar?	13 Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui préparent les choses saintes reçoivent du Temple leur nourriture? Ceux qui servent à l’autel ont leur part de ce qui est sur l’autel.
14 In the same way, the Lord gave the instruction that those who preach the gospel should get their livingfrom the gospel.	14 Et de même le Seigneur a ordonné que ceux qui annoncent l’Évangile vivent de l’Évangile.
15 However, I have never availed myself of any rights of this kind; and I have not written this to securesuch treatment for myself; I would rather die than that . . . No one shal take from me this ground of boasting.	15 Mais moi, je n’ai fait aucun usage de tout cela, et si je vous l’écris ce n’est pas pour en bénéficier: j’aimerais mieux mourir… Personne ne m’enlèvera ce titre de gloire.
16 In fact, preaching the gospel gives me nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion and I should bein trouble if I failed to do it.	16 Car si j’annonce l’Évangile, je ne peux pas m’en vanter: je le fais par contrainte, et malheur à moi si je n’annonçais pas l’Évangile.
17 If I did it on my own initiative I would deserve a reward; but if I do it under compulsion I am simplyaccepting a task entrusted to me.	17 Si je le faisais librement, j’aurais une récompense, mais on m’a donné cette charge malgré moi.
18 What reward do I have, then? That in my preaching I offer the gospel free of charge to avoid using therights which the gospel al ows me.	18 Alors, comment mériter une récompense? Je donnerai l’Évangile gratuitement, sans faire usage des droits que me donne l’Évangile.
19 So though I was not a slave to any human being, I put myself in slavery to al people, to win as manyas I could.	19 De même j’étais libre vis-à-vis de tous, mais je me suis fait l’esclave de tous pour gagner cette multitude.
20 To the Jews I made myself as a Jew, to win the Jews; to those under the Law as one under the Law(though I am not), in order to win those under the Law;	20 Je me suis fait Juif avec les Juifs afin de gagner les Juifs. Ils observent la Loi? Moi aussi j’observe la Loi, bien que je n’y sois pas tenu, parce que je veux gagner ceux qui observent la Loi.
21 to those outside the Law as one outside the Law, though I am not outside the Law but under Christ'slaw, to win those outside the Law.	21 Avec ceux qui n’ont pas la Loi, je suis celui qui n’observe pas la Loi (en réalité je ne suis pas sans loi vis-à-vis de Dieu: ma loi, c’est le Christ). Mais je veux gagner ceux qui n’ont pas la Loi.
22 To the weak, I made myself weak, to win the weak. I accommodated myself to people in all kinds ofdifferent situations, so that by al possible means I might bring some to salvation.	22 Et pour gagner ceux dont la conscience n’est pas assurée, je me fais faible parmi les faibles. Je me suis fait tout à tous de façon à en sauver pour le moins quelques uns.
23 Al this I do for the sake of the gospel, that I may share its benefits with others.	23 Et tout cela je le fais pour l’Évangile, parce que moi aussi je veux en avoir ma part.
24 Do you not realise that, though al the runners in the stadium take part in the race, only one of themgets the prize? Run like that -- to win.	24 Vous savez bien qu’au stade il y a beaucoup de coureurs au départ, et un seul reçoit le prix. Courez donc de façon à gagner.
25 Every athlete concentrates completely on training, and this is to win a wreath that wil wither, whereasours wil never wither.	25 Les concurrents s’imposent une dure discipline, et c’est pour une couronne vite fanée, alors que la nôtre ne se fanera pas.
26 So that is how I run, not without a clear goal; and how I box, not wasting blows on air.	26 Je ne veux donc pas courir sans préparation ni donner des coups dans le vide.
27 I punish my body and bring it under control, to avoid any risk that, having acted as herald for others, Imyself may be disqualified.	27 Aussi vais-je traiter durement mon corps et le tenir en laisse, car je ne voudrais pas être éliminé après avoir prêché aux autres.
