NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 About this time, when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenists made a complaint againstthe Hebrews: in the daily distribution their own widows were being overlooked.	1 En ces jours-là, comme le nombre des disciples augmentait, il y eut des murmures chez les Hellénistescontre les Hébreux. Dans le service quotidien, disaient-ils, on négligeait leurs veuves.
2 So the Twelve cal ed a ful meeting of the disciples and addressed them, 'It would not be right for us toneglect the word of God so as to give out food;	2 Les Douze convoquèrent alors l'assemblée des disciples et leur dirent: "Il ne sied pas que nousdélaissions la parole de Dieu pour servir aux tables.
3 you, brothers, must select from among yourselves seven men of good reputation, fil ed with the Spiritand with wisdom, to whom we can hand over this duty.	3 Cherchez plutôt parmi vous, frères, sept hommes de bonne réputation, remplis de l'Esprit et desagesse, et nous les préposerons à cet office;
4 We ourselves wil continue to devote ourselves to prayer and to the service of the word.'	4 quant à nous, nous resterons assidus à la prière et au service de la parole."
5 The whole assembly approved of this proposal and elected Stephen, a man ful of faith and of the HolySpirit, together with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus of Antioch, a convert toJudaism.	5 La proposition plut à toute l'assemblée, et l'on choisit Etienne, homme rempli de foi et de l'EspritSaint, Philippe, Prochore, Nicanor, Timon, Parménas et Nicolas, prosélyte d'Antioche.
6 They presented these to the apostles, and after prayer they laid their hands on them.	6 On les présenta aux apôtres et, après avoir prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains.
7 The word of the Lord continued to spread: the number of disciples in Jerusalem was greatly increased,and a large group of priests made their submission to the faith.	7 Et la parole du Seigneur croissait; le nombre des disciples augmentait considérablement à Jérusalem,et une multitude de prêtres obéissaient à la foi.
8 Stephen was fil ed with grace and power and began to work miracles and great signs among the people.	8 Etienne, rempli de grâce et de puissance, opérait de grands prodiges et signes parmi le peuple.
9 Then certain people came forward to debate with Stephen, some from Cyrene and Alexandria who weremembers of the synagogue cal ed the Synagogue of Freedmen, and others from Cilicia and Asia.	9 Alors intervinrent des gens de la synagogue dite des Affranchis, des Cyrénéens, des Alexandrins etd'autres de Cilicie et d'Asie. Ils se mirent à discuter avec Etienne,
10 They found they could not stand up against him because of his wisdom, and the Spirit that promptedwhat he said.	10 mais ils n'étaient pas de force à tenir tête à la sagesse et à l'Esprit qui le faisaient parler.
11 So they procured some men to say, 'We heard him using blasphemous language against Moses andagainst God.'	11 Ils soudoyèrent alors des hommes pour dire: "Nous l'avons entendu prononcer des parolesblasphématoires contre Moïse et contre Dieu."
12 Having turned the people against him as well as the elders and scribes, they took Stephen by surprise,and arrested him and brought him before the Sanhedrin.	12 Ils ameutèrent ainsi le peuple, les anciens et les scribes, puis, survenant à l'improviste, ilss'emparèrent de lui et l'emmenèrent devant le Sanhédrin.
13 There they put up false witnesses to say, 'This man is always making speeches against this Holy Placeand the Law.	13 Là ils produisirent des faux témoins qui déclarèrent: "Cet individu ne cesse pas de tenir des proposcontre ce saint Lieu et contre la Loi.
14 We have heard him say that Jesus, this Nazarene, is going to destroy this Place and alter the traditionsthat Moses handed down to us.'	14 Nous l'avons entendu dire que Jésus, ce Nazôréen, détruira ce Lieu-ci et changera les usages queMoïse nous a légués."
15 The members of the Sanhedrin al looked intently at Stephen, and his face appeared to them like theface of an angel.	15 Or, tous ceux qui siégeaient au Sanhédrin avaient les yeux fixés sur lui, et son visage leur apparutsemblable à celui d'un ange.
