NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
'A man must not take his father's wife; he must not withdraw the skirt of his father's cloak from her.1 An eunuch, whose testicles are broken or cut away, or yard cut off, shall not enter into the church of the Lord.
'A man whose testicles have been crushed or whose male member has been cut off must not beadmitted to the assembly of Yahweh.2 A mamzer, that is to say, one born of a prostitute, shall not enter into the church of the Lord, until the tenth generation.
No half-breed may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh; not even his descendants to the tenthgeneration may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh.3 The Ammonite and the Moabite, even after the tenth generation shall not enter into the church of the Lord for ever:
No Ammonite or Moabite may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh; not even his descendants tothe tenth generation may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh, and this is for all time;4 Because they would not meet you with bread and water in the way, when you came out of Egypt: hand because they hired against thee Balaam, the son of Beer, from Mesopotamia in Syria, to curse thee.
since they did not come to meet you with food and drink when you were on your way out of Egypt, andeven hired Balaam son of Beor to oppose you by cursing you, from Pethor in Aram Naharaim.5 And the Lord thy God would not hear Balaam, and he turned his cursing into thy blessing, because he loved thee.
But Yahweh your God refused to listen to Balaam, and Yahweh your God turned the curse on you intoa blessing, because Yahweh your God loved you.6 Thou shalt not make peace with them, neither shalt thou seek their prosperity all the days of thy life for ever.
Never, as long as you live, must you seek their welfare or their prosperity.7 Thou shalt not abhor the Edomite, because he is thy brother: nor the Egyptian, because thou wast a stranger in his land.
'You must not regard the Edomite as detestable, for he is your brother; you must not regard theEgyptian as detestable, since you were once a foreigner in his country.8 They that are born of them, in the third generation shall enter into the church of the Lord.
The third generation of children born to these may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh.9 When thou goest out to war against thy enemies, thou shalt keep thyself from every evil thing.
'When you are in camp, at war with your enemies, you must avoid anything bad.10 If there be among you any man, that is defiled in a dream by night, he shall go forth out of the camp.
If any one of you is unclean by reason of a nocturnal emission, he must leave and not come backinto camp,11 And shall not return, before he be washed with water in the evening: and after sunset he shall return into the camp.
but towards evening wash himself, and return to camp at sunset.12 Thou shalt have a place without the camp, to which thou mayst go for the necessities of nature,
'You must have a latrine outside the camp, and go out to this;13 Carrying a paddle at thy girdle. And when thou sittest down, thou shalt dig round about, and with the earth that is dug up thou shalt cover
you must have a trowel in your equipment and, when you squat outside, you must scrape a hole withit, then turn round and cover up your excrement.14 That which thou art eased of: (for the Lord thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thy enemies to thee:) and let thy camp be holy, and let no uncleanness appear therein, lest he go away from thee.
For Yahweh your God goes about the inside of your camp to guard you and put your enemies at yourmercy. Your camp must therefore be a holy place; Yahweh must not see anything indecent there or he willdesert you.15 Thou shalt not deliver to his master the servant that is fled to thee.
'You must not allow a master to imprison a slave who has escaped from him and come to you.16 He shall dwell with thee ill the place that shall please him, and shall rest, in one of thy cities: give him no trouble.
Let him make his home with you and yours, wherever he pleases in whichever of your towns heprefers; you must not molest him.17 There shall be no whore among the daughters of Israel, nor whoremonger among the sons of Israel.
'There must be no sacred prostitute among the women of Israel, and no sacred prostitute among themen of Israel.18 Thou shalt not offer the hire of a strumpet, nor the price of a dog, in the house of the Lord thy God, whatsoever it be that thou hast vowed: because both these are an abomination to the Lord thy God.
You must not bring the wages of a prostitute or the earnings of a 'dog' to the house of Yahweh yourGod, whatever vow you may have made: both are detestable to Yahweh your God.19 Thou shalt not lend to thy brother money to usury, nor corn, nor any other thing:
'You must not lend on interest to your brother, whether the loan be of money, of food, or of anythingelse that may earn interest.20 But to the stranger. To thy brother thou shalt lend that which he wanteth, without usury: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all thy works in the land, which thou shalt go in to possess.
You may demand interest on a loan to a foreigner, but you must not demand interest from yourbrother; so that Yahweh your God may bless you in al your labours, in the country which you are about to enterand make your own.21 When thou hast made a vow to the Lord thy God, thou shalt not delay to pay it: because the Lord thy God will require it. And if thou delay, it shall be imputed to thee for a sin.
'If you make a vow to Yahweh your God, you must not be slack about fulfil ing it: Yahweh your Godwil certainly hold you answerable for it and you wil incur guilt.22 If thou wilt not promise, thou shalt be without sin.
If, however, you make no vow, you do not incur guilt.23 But that which is once gone out of thy lips, thou shalt observe, and shalt do as thou hast promised to the Lord thy God, and hast spoken with thy own will and with thy own mouth.
Whatever passes your lips you must keep to, and the vow that you have made to Yahweh, yourgenerous God, you must fulfil.24 Going into thy neighbour's vineyard, thou mayst eat as many grapes as thou pleasest: but must carry none out with thee:
'If you go into your neighbour's vineyard, you may eat as many grapes as you please, but you mustnot put any in your basket.25 If thou go into thy friend's corn, thou mayst break the ears, and rub them in thy hand: but not reap them with a sickle.
If you go into your neighbour's standing corn, you may pick ears by hand, but you must not put asickle into your neighbour's corn.'
