NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Balaam said to Balak, 'Build me seven altars here and prepare me seven bulls and seven rams.'	1 Balaam dijo de Balac: «Constrúyeme aquí siete altares y prepárame siete novillos y siete carneros».
2 Balak did as Balaam said and offered a burnt offering of one bul and one ram on each altar.	2 Balac hizo lo que Balaam le había indicado, y entre los dos ofrecieron un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.
3 Balaam then said to Balak, 'Stand beside your burnt offerings while I go away. Perhaps Yahweh wilcome and meet me. If he does, I shal tel you whatever he reveals to me.' And he withdrew to a bare hil .	3 Luego Balaam dijo a Balac: «Quédate junto a tus ofrendas, mientras voy a ver si el Señor me hace una revelación. Yo te comunicaré lo que él me manifieste». Y se fue a una colina desierta.
4 God came to meet Balaam, who said to him, 'I have prepared the seven altars and offered a burntoffering of one bul and one ram on each altar.'	4 El Señor se reveló a Balaam, y este le dijo: «Yo erigí los siete altares, y ofrecí un novillo y un carnero en cada altar».
5 Yahweh then put a prophecy into his mouth and said to him, 'Go back to Balak, and that is what youmust say to him.'	5 Entonces el Señor puso una palabra en la boca de Balaam y le dijo: «Regresa adonde está Balac y háblale de esta manera».
6 So Balaam went back to him, and found him stil standing beside his burnt offering, with all the chiefsof Moab.	6 Balaam regresó y lo encontró de pie junto a su holocausto, acompañado de todos los jefes de Moab.
7 He then declaimed his poem as fol ows: Balak has brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from thehil s of Kedem: 'Come and curse Jacob for me, come and denounce Israel!'	7 Entonces pronunció su poema, diciendo: «Desde Aram me hizo venir Balac, el rey de Moab desde las montañas del este: "¡Ven, maldíceme a Jacob, ven, pronuncia una execración contra Israel!".
8 How shal I curse someone whom God has not cursed, how denounce someone God has notdenounced?	8 ¿Cómo maldeciré a quien Dios no ha maldecido? ¿Cómo execraré a quien Dios no ha execrado?
9 Yes, from the top of the crags I see him, from the hills I descry him: a people that dwel s on its own,not to be reckoned among other nations!	9 Cuando lo miro desde la cima de las montañas y lo contemplo desde las colinas, veo un pueblo que vive aparte y no se cuenta entre las naciones.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob? Who can number the cloud of Israel? May I die the death of thejust, and may my future be like theirs!	10 ¿Quién puede contar el polvo de Jacob, o numerar la polvareda de Israel? ¡Que yo muera la muerte de los justos, y que mi fin sea como el suyo!».
11 Balak said to Balaam, 'What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, and youhave heaped blessings on them!'	11 Balac dijo a Balaam: «¿Qué me has hecho? Yo te traje para que maldijeras a mis enemigos, y tú los has bendecido».
12 Balaam replied, 'Am I to depart from what Yahweh puts into my mouth?'	12 «Yo sólo puedo repetir fielmente lo que el Señor pone en mi boca», respondió Balaam.
13 Balak then said, 'Please come somewhere else. From here you can see only the fringe of them, youcannot see them al . Curse them for me over there.'	13 Entonces Balac le dijo: «Ven conmigo a otro lugar desde donde podrás verlos, si no a todos, por los menos a una parte de ellos, y maldícemelos desde allí».
14 He led him to the Lookouts' Field on the top of Pisgah. There he built seven altars and offered aburnt offering of one bul and one ram on each altar.	14 En seguida lo llevó al campo de Sufím, en la cima del Pisgá. Allí construyó siete altares, y ofreció un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.
15 Balaam said to Balak, 'Stand here beside your burnt offerings while I wait over there.'	15 Entonces Balaam dijo a Balac: «Quédate aquí, junto a tu holocausto, mientras yo voy más allá en busca de una revelación».
16 God came to meet Balaam, he put a prophecy into his mouth and said to him, 'Go back to Balak,and that is what you must say to him.'	16 El Señor se reveló a Balaam y se puso una palabra en su boca. Luego le dijo: «Regresa adonde está Balac y háblale de esta manera».
17 So Balaam went to him and found him stil standing beside his burnt offering and all the chiefs ofMoab with him. 'What did Yahweh say?' Balak said to him.	17 Al llegar, lo encontró de pie junto a su holocausto, acompañado de los jefes de Moab. Balac le preguntó: «¿Qué ha dicho el Señor?».
18 Balaam then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Stand up, Balak, and listen, give ear to me, son ofZippor.	18 Entonces Balaam pronunció su poema, diciendo: «¡Levántate, Balac, y escucha, préstame atención, hijo de Sipor!
19 God is no human being that he should lie, no child of Adam to change his mind. Is it his to say andnot to do, is it his to speak and not fulfil?	19 Dios no es un hombre, para mentir; ni es un mortal, para desdecirse: ¿Acaso él dice y no hace, promete una cosa y no cumple?
20 The charge laid on me is to bless, I shal bless, and I cannot reverse it.	20 Yo recibí la misión de bendecir: él ha bendecido y no lo puedo contradecir.
21 I have perceived no guilt in Jacob, have seen no perversity in Israel. Yahweh his God is with him,and a royal acclamation to greet him.	21 No se ve ningún mal en Jacob ni se percibe ninguna desgracia en Israel. El Señor, su Dios, está con él, y entre ellos se oye proclamar a un rey.
22 God has brought him out of Egypt, is like the wild ox's horns to him.	22 Dios, que lo hace salir de Egipto, es para él como los cuernos de un búfalo.
23 There is no omen whatever against Jacob, no augury at al against Israel. Wel may people say ofJacob, of Israel, 'What has God achieved?'	23 No hay magia en Jacob ni adivinación en Israel: a su debido tiempo se le dirá a Jacob y a Israel lo que hace Dios.
24 for here is a people like a lioness rising, poised like a lion to spring; nor wil he lie down till he hasdevoured his prey and drunk the blood of his slain.	24 Un pueblo se alza como una leona, se yergue como un león: no se recuesta hasta devorar la presa y beber la sangre de sus víctimas».
25 Balak said to Balaam, 'Very wel ! Do not curse them. But at least do not bless them!'	25 Balac dijo entonces a Balaam: «Si no lo maldices, ¡por lo menos no lo bendigas!».
26 Balaam retorted to Balak, 'Did I not tel you? Whatever Yahweh says, I must do.'	26 Pero Balaam respondió a Balac: «Ya te advertí que haría todo lo que el Señor me dijera».
27 Balak then said to Balaam, 'Come with me now and I shal take you somewhere else. From thereperhaps it wil please God to curse them for me.'	27 Luego Balac dijo a Balaam: «Ven, te llevaré a otro lugar. Tal vez Dios vea con buenos ojos que me los maldigas desde allí».
28 So Balak led Balaam to the summit of Peor, overlooking the wastelands.	28 En seguida lo llevó a la cima del Peor, que domina la región desértica,
29 Balaam then said to Balak, 'Build me seven altars here and prepare me seven bul s and sevenrams.'	29 y Balaam dijo a Balac: «Constrúyeme aquí siete altares y prepárame siete novillos y siete carneros».
30 Balak did as Balaam said and offered a burnt offering of one bull and one ram on each altar.	30 Balac hizo lo que Balaam le había indicado, y ofreció un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.
