1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,	1 Il Signore parlommi, dicendo:
2 'Son of man, there were once two women, daughters of the same mother.	2 Figliuolo dell'uomo; furon due donne figlie d'una stessa madre,
3 They played the whore in Egypt; they played the whore when they were stil girls. There their nippleswere handled, there their virgin breasts were first fondled.	3 Ed elle peccarono nell'Egitto, nella loro adolescenza peccarono: ivi perderono il loro onore, e furon disonorate nella prima loro pubertà.
4 Their names were: Oholah the elder, Oholibah her sister. They belonged to me and bore sons anddaughters. As regards their names, Samaria is Oholah, Jerusalem Oholibah.	4 E si chiamavano la maggiore Oolla, la minor sorella Ooliba; e io le sposai, e partoriron figliuoli, e figlie. Or quanto a' lor nomi, Oolla è Samaria, ed Ooliba è Gerusalemme.
5 Now Oholah played the whore, although she belonged to me; she lusted after her lovers, herneighbours the Assyrians,	5 Oolla adunque mancò a me di fede, e impazzò dietro a' suoi amadori, gli Assiri suoi vicini,
6 dressed in purple, governors and magistrates, all of them young and desirable, and skilful horsemen.	6 Vestiti di giacinto, che erano gran signori, ed in dignità giovani amabili, tutti cavalieri, e domatori di cavalli:
7 She played the whore with al of them, the pick of Assyria, and defiled herself with al the foul idols ofal those with whom she was in love,	7 E peccò sfacciatamente con questi uomini distinti, tutti figliuoli degli Assiri, e si contaminò colle immondezze di tutti coloro, dietro a' quali impazzò.
8 nor did she give up the whoring begun in Egypt, where men had slept with her from her girlhood,fondling her virgin breasts, debauching her over and over again.	8 E di più non abbandonò ella le male pratiche, che aveva avute nell'Egitto; imperocché gli Egiziani ancora commisero adulterio con lei nella sua adolescenza, e disonoraron la sua pubertà, e in lei trasfusero tutte le loro fornicazioni.
9 'That is why I have handed her over to her lovers, to the Assyrians with whom she was in love.	9 Per questo la diedi io in potere de' suoi amatori, in potere de' figli di Assur, nell'amore de' quali avea perduto il senno.
10 They stripped her naked, seized her sons and daughters and put her to the sword. She becamenotorious among women for the justice done on her.	10 Ei scopriron la sua ignominia, menaron via i suoi figliuoli, e le figlie, e lei ucciser di spada: e queste divennero donne famose, quando di lei fecer giudizio.
11 'Her sister Oholibah saw al this, but she was even more depraved, and her whorings were worsethan her sister's.	11 Le quali cose vedute avendo la sorella di lei Ooliba, impazzì anche peggio di lei, e nella sua fornicazione sorpassò la sorella:
12 She fel in love with her neighbours the Assyrians, governors and magistrates, dressed in sumptuousclothes, skilful horsemen, al young and desirable.	12 Si abbandonò sfacciatamente ai figliuoli degli Assiri, ai capitani, ed a' magistrati, che andavano a trovarla vestiti di vesti a varj colori, a' cavalieri domatori di cavalli, ed a' giovinetti, che eran tutti di straordinaria bellezza.
13 Then I saw that she had defiled herself, that both sisters were equally bad.	13 E io conobbi, che aveano e l'una, e l'altra le stesse brutte inclinazioni.
14 She began whoring worse than ever; no sooner had she seen wal -carvings of men, pictures ofChaldaeans coloured vermilion,	14 E andò sempre avanti nelle sue fornicazioni: e veduti avendo degli uomini dipinti nel muro, immagini de' Caldei colorite,
15 men with sashes round their waists and elaborate turbans on their heads, all so lordly of bearing,depicting the Babylonians, natives of Chaldaea,	15 Che aveano cinti i fianchi col balteo, e in testa tiare di varj colori, come essendo figure di tutti i capitani, e rappresentanze de' figliuoli di Babilonia, e della terra de' Caldei, dove quegli erano nati;
16 than she fell in love with them at first sight and sent messengers to them in Chaldaea.	16 Gli occhi suoi s'invaghirono stranamente di essi, e mandò loro ambasciadori nella Caldea.
17 The Babylonians came to her, shared her love-bed and defiled her with their whoring. Once defiledby them, she withdrew her affection from them.	17 E venuti a lei i figliuoli di Babilonia, e ammessi al suo talamo, la disonorarono colle loro disonestà, e con essi ella si contaminò, e l'anima di lei di lor si saziò.
18 Thus she flaunted her whoring, exposing her body, until I withdrew my affection from her as I hadwithdrawn it from her sister.	18 Ella non tenne occulte le sue fornicazioni, ma disvelò la sua ignominia: e presela in abbominio l'anima mia, come l'anima mia avea presa in abbominio la sua sorella.
19 But she began whoring worse than ever, remembering her girlhood, when she had played the whorein Egypt,	19 Ma ella moltiplicò le sue fornicazioni, rammentando i giorni di sua adolescenza, quando peccò nella terra d'Egitto.
20 when she had been in love with their profligates, big-membered as donkeys, ejaculating as violentlyas stal ions.	20 E arse d'infame amore verso coloro, che hanno carne simile a quella degli asini, e il furore imitano dei cavalli.
21 'You were hankering for the debauchery of your girlhood, when they used to handle your nipples inEgypt and fondle your young breasts.	21 E rammentasti le scelleratezze di tua adolescenza, quando il tuo onore perdesti in Egitto, e fu violata la tua pubertà.
22 And so, Oholibah, Lord Yahweh says this, "I shal set al your lovers against you, from whom youhave withdrawn your affection, and bring them to assault you from al directions:	22 Per questo a te, Ooliba, cosi dice il Signore Dio: Ecco, che io susciterò contro di te i tuoi amatori de' quali è già sazia l'anima tua, e contro di te raunerolli da tutte le parti;
23 the Babylonians and al the Chaldaeans, the men of Pekod and Shoa and Koa, and al the Assyrianswith them, young and desirable, al governors and magistrates, al famous lords and skilful horsemen.	23 I figli di Babilonia, e tutti i Caldei, i nobili, i tiranni, e i principi; tutti i figliuoli degli Assiri, giovani di bell'aspetto, capitani, e magistrati tutti quanti, i principi de' principi, e i famosi nell'arte di cavalcare:
24 From the north, they wil advance on you with chariots and wagons and an international army andbeset you with shield, buckler and helmet on al sides. I shal charge them to pass sentence on you and they wil pass sentence on you as they think fit.	24 E una turba di popoli verran sopra di te con carri, e cocchi; contro di te d'ogni parte si armeranno di corazza, di scudo, e di cimiero: e potestà darò loro di giudicarti, e di te farann' essi giudizio a lor talento.
25 I shal direct my jealousy against you; they wil treat you with fury; they will cut off your nose and ears,and what is left of your family wil fal by the sword; they wil seize your sons and daughters, and what is left wilbe burnt.	25 E dell'offeso amor mio sopra di te prenderò vendetta, ed ei la faranno senza misericordia: ti troncheranno il tuo naso, e le tue orecchie, e il resto faranno in brani colla spada: meneran prigionieri i tuoi figliuoli, e le figlie, e quel, che di te rimarrà, sarà dato alle fiamme.
26 They will strip off your garments and rob you of your jewels.	26 E ti spoglieranno delle tue vesti, e ti torran gli ornamenti della tua gloria.
27 I shal put an end to your debauchery and to the whorings you began in Egypt; you wil not look to theEgyptians any more, you wil never think of them again.	27 E farò, che abbian pausa le tue scelleratezze, e la fornicazione apparata nella terra d'Egitto; né gli occhi tuoi alzerai verso de' simulacri, né più ti ricorderai dell'Egitto;
28 For the Lord Yahweh says this: Now, I shal hand you over to those you hate, to those for whom youno longer feel affection.	28 Imperocché queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Ecco, che io ti darò in balìa di color, che tu hai in avversione, in balìa di coloro, de' quali era già sazia l'anima tua.
29 They will treat you with hatred, they wil rob you of the entire fruit of your labours and leave you starknaked. And thus your shameful whorings will be exposed, your debauchery and your whorings.	29 E ti tratteranno con odio, e ti torranno tutte le tue fatiche, e nuda ti lasceranno, e piena d'ignominia: e saranno manifestate le tue fornicazioni, le tue scelleratezze, e le tue fornicazioni.
30 This wil happen to you because you have played the whore with the nations and have defiledyourself with their foul idols.	30 Queste cose farann' eglino a te, perchè hai peccato dietro alle nazioni, tralle quali ti se' contaminata, servendo agl'idoli loro.
31 Since you have copied your sister's behaviour, I shal put her cup in your hand."	31 I costumi imitasti di tua sorella, e il calice di lei porrò io nella tua mano.
32 The Lord Yahweh says this: You wil drink your sister's cup, a cup both deep and wide, leading tolaughter and mockery, so ample the draught it holds.	32 Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Tu berai il calice di tua sorella profondo, ed ampio: sarai oggetto di derisione, e di scherno: grandissimo è il calice.
33 You wil be fil ed with drunkenness and sorrow. Cup of affliction and devastation, the cup of yoursister Samaria,	33 Tu sarai inebriata, e ricolma di affanno dal calice di afflizione, e di amarezza, dal calice di tua sorella Samaria.
34 you will drink it, you wil drain it; then you will break it in pieces and lacerate your own breasts. For Ihave spoken -- declared the Lord Yahweh.	34 E lo berai, e lo suggerai sino alla fondata, e ne divorerai i frammenti, e ti lacererai il seno; perocché io ho parlato, dice il Signore Dio.
35 "And so, the Lord Yahweh says this: Since you have forgotten me and have turned your back on me,you too will have to bear the weight of your debauchery and whorings." '	35 Per questo il Signore Dio parla cosi: Perchè tu ti scordasti di me, e mi gettasti dietro alle tue spalle, tu pure porta le tue scelleraggini, e le tue fornicazioni.
36 And Yahweh said to me, 'Son of man, are you ready to judge Oholah and Oholibah and charge themwith their loathsome practices?	36 E il Signore parlommi, dicendo: Figliuolo dell'uomo, non farai tu giudizio di Oolla, e di Ooliba, e annunzierai loro i lor delitti?
37 They have been adulteresses, their hands are dripping with blood, they have committed adultery withtheir foul idols. As for the children they had borne me, they have offered them as burnt sacrifices to feed them.	37 Imperocché elle sono adultere, ed han le mani insanguinate, e si son contaminate co' loro idoli: ed oltre a ciò i figli, che aveano a me generati, gli hanno offerti ad essi, perchè li divorassero.
38 And here is something else they have done to me: they have defiled my sanctuary today and haveprofaned my Sabbaths.	38 Ma questo ancora hanno fatto contro di me: Han profanato in quel dì il mio santuario, e violati i miei sabati.
39 The same day as sacrificing their children to their idols, they have been to my sanctuary andprofaned it. Yes, this is what they have done in my own house.	39 È quando agli idoli immolavano i propri figli, entravano lo stesso dì nel mio santuario, affin di contaminarlo: Questo pure elle han fatto nel mezzo della casa mia.
40 'Worse stil , they summoned men from far away, invited by messenger, and they came. For them youbathed, you painted your eyes, put on your jewels	40 Elle hanno mandato a cercare di uomini, che eran in lontano paese, a' quali aveano spediti ambasciadori: onde ecco, che quegli sono venuti, e per essi ti sei lavata, ed hai imbellettati gli occhi tuoi, e ti ornasti delle tue pompe.
41 and sat on a sumptuous bed, by which a table was laid out. On this you had put my incense and myoil.	41 Ti ponesti a sedere sopra bellissimo letto, e dinanzi a te fu imbandita la mensa: sopra di questa ponesti i miei timiami, e i miei unguenti.
42 The noise of the carefree company resounded, made by the crowd of men brought in from the desert;they put bracelets on the women's arms and magnificent crowns on their heads.	42 E intorno ad essa (udiansi) le voci di gente festosa, e a quelli, che tralla turba degli uomini eran condotti, e venian dal deserto, poser loro braccialetti alle manni, e vaghe corone sulle lor teste:
43 I thought, "That woman, worn out with adultery! Are they going to fornicate with her too?"	43 Ed io dissi riguardo a colei, che è invecchiata ne' suoi adulteri: continuerà ella ancora costei nelle sue fornicazioni?
44 Yet they visit her like any common prostitute, just as they visited those profligate women Oholah andOholibah.	44 Perocché a lei andava la gente, come a pubblica peccatrice. In tal guisa andava la gente a' trovare Oolla, e Ooliba, donne nefande.
45 Al the same, there are upright men who wil judge them as adulteresses and murderesses arejudged, since they are adulteresses and their hands are dripping with blood."	45 Questi uomini adunque fanno cosa giusta: ei le condanneranno alla pena delle adultere, e alla pena dei sanguinari; perocché sono adultere, ed han le mani lorde di sangue;
46 'The Lord Yahweh says this, "Summon an assembly to deal with them, and hand them over to terrorand pil age;	46 Imperocché queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Conduci contro di esse l'esercito, e abbandonale al terrore, e alle rapine;
47 let the assembly stone them and dispatch them with their swords; let their sons and daughters beslaughtered and their houses set on fire.	47 E siano lapidate dai popoli, e trafitte dalle loro spade: eglino uccideranno i figli loro, e le figlie, e daranno le case loro alle fiamme.
48 This is how I shall purge the country of debauchery, so that al women will be taught the lesson neverto ape your debauchery again.	48 E io torrò dalla terra le scelleraggini, e impareranno le donne tutte a non imitare i delitti di quelle.
49 Your debauchery will recoil on yourselves, and you wil bear the weight of the sins committed withyour foul idols and you wil know that I am the Lord Yahweh." '	49 Le vostre scelleratezze saran poste sopra di voi, e voi porterete i peccati degl'idoli vostri; e conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore Dio.
