Jeremiah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,	1 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:
2 'Go and shout this in Jerusalem's ears: 'Yahweh says this: "I remember your faithful love, the affection ofyour bridal days, when you fol owed me through the desert, through a land unsown.	2 «Va’ e grida agli orecchi di Gerusalemme: Così dice il Signore: Mi ricordo di te, dell’affetto della tua giovinezza, dell’amore al tempo del tuo fidanzamento, quando mi seguivi nel deserto, in terra non seminata.
3 Israel was sacred to Yahweh; the first-fruits of his harvest; al who ate this incurred guilt, disaster befelthem, Yahweh declares." '	3 Israele era sacro al Signore, la primizia del suo raccolto; quanti osavano mangiarne, si rendevano colpevoli, la sventura si abbatteva su di loro. Oracolo del Signore.
4 Listen to Yahweh's word, House of Jacob and al the families of the House of Israel.	4 Udite la parola del Signore, casa di Giacobbe, voi, famiglie tutte d’Israele!
5 Yahweh says this, 'What did your ancestors find wrong in me for them to have deserted me so far as tofol ow Futility and become futile themselves?	5 Così dice il Signore: Quale ingiustizia trovarono in me i vostri padri per allontanarsi da me e correre dietro al nulla, diventando loro stessi nullità?
6 They never said, "Where is Yahweh, who brought us out of Egypt and led us through the desert, througha land of plains and ravines, through a land of drought, of shadow dark as death, a land through which no onepasses and where no human being lives?"	6 E non si domandarono: “Dov’è il Signore che ci fece uscire dall’Egitto, e ci guidò nel deserto, terra di steppe e di frane, terra arida e tenebrosa, terra che nessuno attraversa e dove nessuno dimora?”.
7 I brought you to a country of plenty, to enjoy its produce and good things; but when you entered youdefiled my country and made my heritage loathsome.	7 Io vi ho condotti in una terra che è un giardino, perché ne mangiaste i frutti e i prodotti, ma voi, appena entrati, avete contaminato la mia terra e avete reso una vergogna la mia eredità.
8 The priests never asked, "Where is Yahweh?" Those skilled in the Law did not know me, the shepherdstoo rebel ed against me and the prophets prophesied by Baal and fol owed the Useless Ones.	8 Neppure i sacerdoti si domandarono: “Dov’è il Signore?”. Gli esperti nella legge non mi hanno conosciuto, i pastori si sono ribellati contro di me, i profeti hanno profetato in nome di Baal e hanno seguito idoli che non aiutano.
9 So I must state my case against you once more, Yahweh declares, and state my case against yourchildren's children:	9 Per questo intenterò ancora un processo contro di voi – oracolo del Signore – e farò causa ai figli dei vostri figli.
10 Cross to the isles of the Kittim and look, send to Kedar and careful y observe, see if anything like thishas happened before!	10 Recatevi nelle isole dei Chittìm e osservate, mandate gente a Kedar e considerate bene, vedete se è mai accaduta una cosa simile.
11 Does a nation change its gods? - and these are not gods at al ! Yet my people have exchanged theirGlory for the Useless One!	11 Un popolo ha cambiato i suoi dèi? Eppure quelli non sono dèi! Ma il mio popolo ha cambiato me, sua gloria, con un idolo inutile.
12 You heavens, stand aghast at this, horrified, utterly appalled, Yahweh declares.	12 O cieli, siatene esterrefatti, inorriditi e spaventati. Oracolo del Signore.
13 For my people have committed two crimes: they have abandoned me, the fountain of living water, anddug water-tanks for themselves, cracked water-tanks that hold no water.	13 Due sono le colpe che ha commesso il mio popolo: ha abbandonato me, sorgente di acqua viva, e si è scavato cisterne, cisterne piene di crepe, che non trattengono l’acqua.
14 'Is Israel a slave? Was he born into serfdom, for him to be preyed on like this?	14 Israele è forse uno schiavo, o è nato servo in casa? Perché è diventato una preda?
15 Lions have roared at him, they have made their voices heard. They have left this country a desert, histowns lie burnt and uninhabited.	15 Contro di lui ruggiscono leoni con ruggiti minacciosi. Hanno ridotto la sua terra a deserto, le sue città sono state bruciate e nessuno vi abita.
16 The people of Noph and Tahpanhes have shaved your skul !	16 Persino le genti di Menfi e di Tafni ti hanno umiliata radendoti il capo.
17 Have you not brought this on yourself, by abandoning Yahweh your God, when he was guiding you onyour way?	17 Non ti accade forse tutto questo perché hai abbandonato il Signore, tuo Dio, al tempo in cui era tua guida nel cammino?
18 What is the good of going to Egypt now to drink the water of the Nile? What is the good of going toAssyria to drink the water of the River?	18 E ora, perché corri verso l’Egitto a bere l’acqua del Nilo? Perché corri verso l’Assiria a bere l’acqua dell’Eufrate?
19 Your wickedness wil bring its own punishment, your infidelities wil bring you to book, so give thoughtand see how evil and bitter it is to abandon Yahweh your God and not to stand in awe of me, the Lord YahwehSabaoth declares.	19 La tua stessa malvagità ti castiga e le tue ribellioni ti puniscono. Renditi conto e prova quanto è triste e amaro abbandonare il Signore, tuo Dio, e non avere più timore di me. Oracolo del Signore degli eserciti.
20 'It is long ago now since you broke your yoke, burst your bonds and said, "I wil not serve!" Yet on every high hil and under every green tree you have sprawled and played the whore.	20 Già da tempo hai infranto il giogo, hai spezzato i legami e hai detto: “Non voglio essere serva!”. Su ogni colle elevato e sotto ogni albero verde ti sei prostituita.
21 Yet I had planted you, a red vine of completely sound stock. How is it you have turned into seedlings of a vine that is alien to me?	21 Io ti avevo piantato come vigna pregiata, tutta di vitigni genuini; come mai ti sei mutata in tralci degeneri di vigna bastarda?
22 Even though you scrub yourself with soda and put in quantities of soap, the stain of your guilt would stilbe visible to me, the Lord Yahweh declares.	22 Anche se tu ti lavassi con soda e molta potassa, resterebbe davanti a me la macchia della tua iniquità. Oracolo del Signore.
23 How dare you say, "I am not defiled, I have not run after the Baals?" Look at your behaviour in theVal ey, realise what you have done.	23 Come osi dire: “Non mi sono contaminata, non ho seguito i Baal”? Guarda nella valle le tracce dei tuoi passi, riconosci quello che hai fatto, giovane cammella leggera e vagabonda!
24 A wild she-donkey, at home in the desert, snuffing the breeze in desire; who can control her when sheis on heat? Males need not trouble to look for her, they wil find her in her month.	24 Asina selvatica, abituata al deserto: quando ansima nell’ardore del suo desiderio, chi può frenare la sua brama? Quanti la cercano non fanno fatica: la troveranno sempre disponibile.
25 Beware! Your own foot will go unshod, your own throat grow dry! But you said, "It is no use! No! For Ilove the Strangers and they are the ones I shal fol ow."	25 Férmati prima che il tuo piede resti scalzo e la tua gola inaridisca! Ma tu rispondi: “No, è inutile, perché io amo gli stranieri, voglio andare con loro”.
26 'Like a thief ashamed at being caught, so wil the House of Israel be: they, their kings, their chief men,their priests and their prophets,	26 Come viene svergognato un ladro sorpreso in flagrante, così restano svergognati quelli della casa d’Israele, con i loro re, i loro capi, i loro sacerdoti e i loro profeti.
27 who say to a piece of wood, "You are my father," and to a stone, "You gave birth to me." For they turn to me their backs, never their faces; yet when trouble comes they shout, "Get up! Save us!"	27 Dicono a un pezzo di legno: “Sei tu mio padre”, e a una pietra: “Tu mi hai generato”. A me rivolgono le spalle, non la faccia; ma al tempo della sventura invocano: “Àlzati, salvaci!”.
28 Where are your gods you made for yourself? Let them get up if they can save you when trouble comes!For you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah!	28 Dove sono gli dèi che ti sei costruito? Si alzino, se sono capaci di salvarti nel tempo della sventura; poiché numerosi come le tue città sono i tuoi dèi, o Giuda!
29 Why make out a case against me? You have al rebel ed against me, Yahweh declares.	29 Perché contendete con me? Tutti vi siete ribellati contro di me. Oracolo del Signore.
30 In vain I have struck your children, they have not accepted correction; your own sword has devouredyour prophets like a marauding lion.	30 Invano ho colpito i vostri figli: non hanno imparato la lezione. La vostra spada ha divorato i vostri profeti come un leone distruttore.
31 Now you of this generation, listen to what Yahweh says: Have I been a desert for Israel, or a land ofgloom? Why do my people say, "We are our own masters, we wil come to you no more"?	31 Voi di questa generazione, fate attenzione alla parola del Signore! Sono forse divenuto un deserto per Israele o una terra dov’è sempre notte? Perché il mio popolo dice: “Siamo liberi, non verremo più da te”?
32 Does a girl forget her ornaments, a bride her sash? And yet my people have forgotten me, daysbeyond number.	32 Dimentica forse una vergine i suoi ornamenti, una sposa la sua cintura? Eppure il mio popolo mi ha dimenticato da giorni innumerevoli.
33 'How wel you set your course in pursuit of love! And so you have schooled your ways to wicked deeds.	33 Come sai scegliere bene la tua via in cerca di amore! Anche alle donne peggiori hai insegnato le tue strade.
34 The very skirts of your robe are stained with the blood of the poor, of innocent men you never caughtbreaking and entering! And in spite of al this,	34 Sull’orlo delle tue vesti si trova persino il sangue di poveri innocenti, da te non sorpresi a scassinare! Eppure per tutto questo
35 you say, "I am innocent, let his anger turn from me!" Now I pass sentence on you for saying, "I have not sinned."	35 tu protesti: “Io sono innocente, perciò la sua ira si è allontanata da me”. Ecco, io ti chiamo in giudizio, perché hai detto: “Non ho peccato!”.
36 'How frivolously you undertake a change of course! But you will be disappointed by Egypt just as youwere by Assyria.	36 Con quale leggerezza cambi strada? Anche dall’Egitto sarai delusa, come fosti delusa dall’Assiria.
37 You wil have to leave there too with your hands on your head, for Yahweh has rejected those that yourely on, you will come to no good with them.'	37 Anche di là tornerai con le mani sul capo, perché il Signore ha respinto coloro nei quali confidi; da loro non avrai alcun vantaggio.
