Jeremiah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,	1 Entonces me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en estos términos:
2 'Go and shout this in Jerusalem's ears: 'Yahweh says this: "I remember your faithful love, the affection ofyour bridal days, when you fol owed me through the desert, through a land unsown.	2 Ve y grita a los oídos de Jerusalén: Así dice Yahveh: De ti recuerdo tu cariño juvenil, el amor de tu noviazgo; aquel seguirme tú por el desierto, por la tierra no sembrada.
3 Israel was sacred to Yahweh; the first-fruits of his harvest; al who ate this incurred guilt, disaster befelthem, Yahweh declares." '	3 Consagrado a Yahveh estaba Israel, primicias de su cosecha. «Quienquiera que lo coma, será reo; mal le sucederá» - oráculo de Yahveh -.
4 Listen to Yahweh's word, House of Jacob and al the families of the House of Israel.	4 Oíd la palabra de Yahveh, casa de Jacob, y todas las familias de la casa de Israel.
5 Yahweh says this, 'What did your ancestors find wrong in me for them to have deserted me so far as tofol ow Futility and become futile themselves?	5 Así dice Yahveh: ¿Qué encontraban vuestros padres en mí de torcido, que se alejaron de mi vera, y yendo en pos de la Vanidad se hicieron vanos?
6 They never said, "Where is Yahweh, who brought us out of Egypt and led us through the desert, througha land of plains and ravines, through a land of drought, of shadow dark as death, a land through which no onepasses and where no human being lives?"	6 En cambio no dijeron: «¿Dónde está Yahveh, que nos subió de la tierra de Egipto, que nos llevó por el desierto, por la estepa y la paramera, por tierra seca y sombría, tierra por donde nadie pasa y en donde nadie se asienta?»
7 I brought you to a country of plenty, to enjoy its produce and good things; but when you entered youdefiled my country and made my heritage loathsome.	7 Luego os traje a la tierra del vergel, para comer su fruto y su bien. Llegasteis y ensuciasteis mi tierra, y pusisteis mi heredad asquerosa.
8 The priests never asked, "Where is Yahweh?" Those skilled in the Law did not know me, the shepherdstoo rebel ed against me and the prophets prophesied by Baal and fol owed the Useless Ones.	8 Los sacerdotes no decían: «¿Dónde está Yahveh?»; ni los peritos de la Ley me conocían; y los pastores se rebelaron contra mí, y los profetas profetizaban por Baal, y en pos de los Inútiles andaban.
9 So I must state my case against you once more, Yahweh declares, and state my case against yourchildren's children:	9 Por eso, continuaré litigando con vosotros - oráculo de Yahveh - y hasta con los hijos de vuestros hijos litigaré.
10 Cross to the isles of the Kittim and look, send to Kedar and careful y observe, see if anything like thishas happened before!	10 Porque, en efecto, pasad a las islas de los Kittim y ved, enviad a Quedar quien investigue a fondo, pensadlo bien y ved si aconteció cosa tal:
11 Does a nation change its gods? - and these are not gods at al ! Yet my people have exchanged theirGlory for the Useless One!	11 si las gentes cambiaron de dioses - ¡aunque aquéllos no son dioses! -. Pues mi pueblo ha trocado su Gloria por el Inútil.
12 You heavens, stand aghast at this, horrified, utterly appalled, Yahweh declares.	12 Pasmaos, cielos, de ello, erizaos y cobrad gran espanto - oráculo de Yahveh -.
13 For my people have committed two crimes: they have abandoned me, the fountain of living water, anddug water-tanks for themselves, cracked water-tanks that hold no water.	13 Doble mal ha hecho mi pueblo: a mí me dejaron, Manantial de aguas vivas, para hacerse cisternas, cisternas agrietadas, que el agua no retienen.
14 'Is Israel a slave? Was he born into serfdom, for him to be preyed on like this?	14 ¿Es un esclavo Israel, o nació siervo? Pues ¿cómo es que ha servido de botín?
15 Lions have roared at him, they have made their voices heard. They have left this country a desert, histowns lie burnt and uninhabited.	15 Contra él rugieron leoncillos, dieron voces y dejaron su país hecho una desolación, sus ciudades incendiadas, sin habitantes.
16 The people of Noph and Tahpanhes have shaved your skul !	16 Hasta los hijos de Nof y de Tafnis te han rapado el cráneo.
17 Have you not brought this on yourself, by abandoning Yahweh your God, when he was guiding you onyour way?	17 ¿No te ha sucedido esto por haber dejado a Yahveh tu Dios cuando te guiaba en tu camino?
18 What is the good of going to Egypt now to drink the water of the Nile? What is the good of going toAssyria to drink the water of the River?	18 Y entonces, ¿qué cuenta te tiene encaminarte a Egipto para beber las aguas del Nilo?, o ¿qué cuenta te tiene encaminarte a Asur para beber las aguas del Río?
19 Your wickedness wil bring its own punishment, your infidelities wil bring you to book, so give thoughtand see how evil and bitter it is to abandon Yahweh your God and not to stand in awe of me, the Lord YahwehSabaoth declares.	19 Que te enseñe tu propio daño, que tus apostasías te escarmienten; reconoce y ve lo malo y amargo que te resulta el dejar a Yahveh tu Dios y no temblar ante mí - oráculo del Señor Yahveh Sebaot -.
20 'It is long ago now since you broke your yoke, burst your bonds and said, "I wil not serve!" Yet on every high hil and under every green tree you have sprawled and played the whore.	20 Oh tú, que rompiste desde siempre el yugo y, sacudiendo las coyundas, decías: «¡No serviré!», tú, que sobre todo otero prominente y bajo todo árbol frondoso estabas yaciendo, prostituta.
21 Yet I had planted you, a red vine of completely sound stock. How is it you have turned into seedlings of a vine that is alien to me?	21 Yo te había plantado de la cepa selecta, toda entera de simiente legítima. Pues ¿cómo te has mudado en sarmiento de vid bastarda?
22 Even though you scrub yourself with soda and put in quantities of soap, the stain of your guilt would stilbe visible to me, the Lord Yahweh declares.	22 Porque, así te blanquees con salitre y te des cantidad de lejía, se te nota la culpa en mi presencia - oráculo del Señor Yahveh -.
23 How dare you say, "I am not defiled, I have not run after the Baals?" Look at your behaviour in theVal ey, realise what you have done.	23 Cómo dices: «No estoy manchada; en pos de los Baales no anduve?» ¡Mira tu rastro en el Valle! Reconoce lo que has hecho, camellita liviana que trenza sus derroteros,
24 A wild she-donkey, at home in the desert, snuffing the breeze in desire; who can control her when sheis on heat? Males need not trouble to look for her, they wil find her in her month.	24 irrumpe en el desierto y en puro celo se bebe los vientos: su estro, ¿quién lo calmará? Cualquiera que la busca la topa, ¡bien acompañada la encuentra!
25 Beware! Your own foot will go unshod, your own throat grow dry! But you said, "It is no use! No! For Ilove the Strangers and they are the ones I shal fol ow."	25 Guarda tu pie de la descalcez y tu garganta de la sed. Pero tú dices: «No hay remedio: a mí me gustan los extranjeros, y tras ellos he de ir».
26 'Like a thief ashamed at being caught, so wil the House of Israel be: they, their kings, their chief men,their priests and their prophets,	26 Cual se avergüenza el ladrón cuando es sorprendido, así se ha avergonzado la casa de Israel: ellos, sus reyes, sus jefes, sus sacerdotes y sus profetas,
27 who say to a piece of wood, "You are my father," and to a stone, "You gave birth to me." For they turn to me their backs, never their faces; yet when trouble comes they shout, "Get up! Save us!"	27 los que dicen al madero: «Mi padre eres tú», y a la piedra: «Tú me diste a luz». Tras de volverme la espalda, que no la cara, al tiempo de su mal dice: «¡Levántate y sálvanos!»
28 Where are your gods you made for yourself? Let them get up if they can save you when trouble comes!For you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah!	28 Pues ¿dónde están tus dioses, los que tú mismo te hiciste? ¡Que se levanten ellos, a ver si te salvan en tiempo de desgracia! Pues cuantas son tus ciudades, otros tantos son tus dioses, Judá; (y cuantas calles cuenta Jerusalén, otros tantos altares hay de Baal).
29 Why make out a case against me? You have al rebel ed against me, Yahweh declares.	29 ¿Por qué os querelláis conmigo, si todos vosotros os habéis rebelado contra mí? - oráculo de Yahveh -.
30 In vain I have struck your children, they have not accepted correction; your own sword has devouredyour prophets like a marauding lion.	30 En vano golpeé a vuestros hijos, pues no aprendieron. Ha devorado vuestra espada a vuestos profetas, como el león cuando estraga.
31 Now you of this generation, listen to what Yahweh says: Have I been a desert for Israel, or a land ofgloom? Why do my people say, "We are our own masters, we wil come to you no more"?	31 ¡Vaya generación la vuestra!; atended a la palabra de Yahveh: ¿Fui yo un desierto para Israel o una tierra malhadada? ¿Por qué, entonces, dice mi pueblo: «¡Bajemos! No vendremos más a ti».?
32 Does a girl forget her ornaments, a bride her sash? And yet my people have forgotten me, daysbeyond number.	32 ¿Se olvida la doncella de su aderezo, la novia de su cinta? Pues mi pueblo sí que me ha olvidado días sin número.
33 'How wel you set your course in pursuit of love! And so you have schooled your ways to wicked deeds.	33 ¡Qué hermoso te parece tu camino en busca del amor! A la verdad, hasta con maldades aprendiste tus caminos.
34 The very skirts of your robe are stained with the blood of the poor, of innocent men you never caughtbreaking and entering! And in spite of al this,	34 En tus mismas haldas se encontraban manchas de sangre de las almas de pobres inocentes: no los sorprendiste en escalo. Y con todo eso,
35 you say, "I am innocent, let his anger turn from me!" Now I pass sentence on you for saying, "I have not sinned."	35 dices: «Soy inocente; basta ya de ira contra mí». Pues bien, aquí me tienes para discutir contigo eso que has dicho: «No he pecado».
36 'How frivolously you undertake a change of course! But you will be disappointed by Egypt just as youwere by Assyria.	36 ¡Cuánta ligereza la tuya para cambiar de dirección! También de Egipto te avergonzarás como te avergonzaste de Asur.
37 You wil have to leave there too with your hands on your head, for Yahweh has rejected those that yourely on, you will come to no good with them.'	37 También de ésta saldrás con las manos en la cabeza. Porque Yahveh ha rechazado aquello en que confías, y no saldrás bien de ello.
