Leviticus 25

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai and said:	1 Yahvé parla à Moïse sur le mont Sinaï; il dit:
2 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them: "When you enter the country which I am giving you, the landmust keep a Sabbath's rest for Yahweh.	2 Parle aux Israélites, tu leur diras: Lorsque vous entrerez au pays que je vous donne, la terrechômera un sabbat pour Yahvé.
3 For six years you wil sow your field, for six years you wil prune your vineyard and gather its produce.	3 Pendant six ans tu ensemenceras ton champ, pendant six ans tu tailleras ta vigne et tu enrécolteras les produits.
4 But in the seventh year the land wil have a sabbatical rest, a Sabbath for Yahweh. You wil neithersow your field, nor prune your vineyard,	4 Mais en la septième année la terre aura son repos sabbatique, un sabbat pour Yahvé: tun'ensemenceras pas ton champ et tu ne tailleras pas ta vigne,
5 nor reap any grain which has grown of its own accord, nor gather the grapes from your untrimmedvine. It wil be a year of rest for the land.	5 tu ne moissonneras pas tes épis, qui ne seront pas mis en gerbe, et tu ne vendangeras pas tesraisins, qui ne seront pas émondés. Ce sera pour la terre une année de repos.
6 But what the land produces in its Sabbath wil serve to feed you, your slave, male or female, youremployee and your guest residing with you;	6 Le sabbat même de la terre vous nourrira, toi, ton serviteur, ta servante, ton journalier, ton hôte,bref ceux qui résident chez toi.
7 for your cattle too, and the wild animals of your country, whatever it produces wil serve as food.	7 A ton bétail aussi et aux bêtes de ton pays tous ses produits serviront de nourriture.
8 "You wil count seven weeks of years -- seven times seven years, that is to say a period of sevenweeks of years, forty-nine years.	8 Tu compteras sept semaines d'années, sept fois sept ans, c'est-à-dire le temps de sept semainesd'années, 49 ans.
9 And on the tenth day of the seventh month you wil sound the trumpet; on the Day of Expiation you wilsound the trumpet throughout the land.	9 Le septième mois, le dixième jour du mois tu feras retentir l'appel de la trompe; le jour desExpiations vous sonnerez de la trompe dans tout le pays.
10 You wil declare this fiftieth year to be sacred and proclaim the liberation of al the country'sinhabitants. You will keep this as a jubilee: each of you wil return to his ancestral property, each to his own clan.	10 Vous déclarerez sainte cette cinquantième année et proclamerez l'affranchissement de tous leshabitants du pays. Ce sera pour vous un jubilé: chacun de vous rentrera dans son patrimoine, chacun de vousretournera dans son clan.
11 This fiftieth year wil be a jubilee year for you; in it you wil not sow, you wil not harvest the grain thathas come up on its own or in it gather grapes from your untrimmed vine.	11 Cette cinquantième année sera pour vous une année jubilaire: vous ne sèmerez pas, vous nemoissonnerez pas les épis qui n'auront pas été mis en gerbe, vous ne vendangerez pas les ceps qui auront poussélibrement.
12 The jubilee wil be a holy thing for you; during it you wil eat whatever the fields produce.	12 Le jubilé sera pour vous chose sainte, vous mangerez des produits des champs.
13 "In this year of jubilee, each of you wil return to his ancestral property.	13 En cette année jubilaire vous rentrerez chacun dans votre patrimoine.
14 If you buy land from, or sell land to, your fel ow-countryman, neither of you may exploit the other.	14 Si tu vends ou si tu achètes à ton compatriote, que nul ne lèse son frère!
15 In buying from your fel ow-countryman, you will take account of the number of years since the jubilee;the sale-price he fixes for you will depend on the number of productive years still to run.	15 C'est en fonction du nombre d'années écoulées depuis le jubilé que tu achèteras à toncompatriote; c'est en fonction du nombre d'années productives qu'il te fixera le prix de vente.
16 The greater the number of years, the higher the price you wil ask for it; the fewer the number ofyears, the greater the reduction; for what he is sel ing you is a certain number of harvests.	16 Plus sera grand le nombre d'années, plus tu augmenteras le prix, moins il y aura d'années, plustu le réduiras, car c'est un certain nombre de récoltes qu'il te vend.
17 So you wil not exploit one another, but fear your God, for I am Yahweh your God.	17 Que nul d'entre vous ne lèse son compatriote, mais aie la crainte de ton Dieu, car c'est moiYahvé votre Dieu.
18 "Hence, you wil put my laws and customs into practice; you will keep them and put them intopractice, and you wil live securely in the country.	18 Vous mettrez en pratique mes lois et mes coutumes, vous les garderez pour les mettre enpratique, et ainsi vous habiterez dans le pays en sécurité.
19 The land wil give its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live in security.	19 La terre donnera son fruit, vous mangerez à satiété et vous habiterez en sécurité.
20 "In case you should ask: What shal we eat in this seventh year if we do not sow or harvest ourproduce?	20 Pour le cas où vous diriez: "Que mangerons-nous en cette septième année si nousn'ensemençons pas et ne récoltons pas nos produits" --
21 I shall order my blessing to be on you in the sixth year, which wil yield you enough produce for threeyears.	21 j'ai prescrit à ma bénédiction de vous être acquise la sixième année en sorte qu'elle assure desproduits pour trois ans.
22 You wil have the old produce to eat while you are sowing in the eighth year, and even in the ninthyear, you wil be eating the old produce, while waiting for the harvest of that year.	22 Quand vous sèmerez la huitième année vous pourrez encore manger des produits anciensjusqu'à la neuvième année; jusqu'à ce que viennent les produits de cette année-là vous mangerez des anciens.
23 "Land wil not be sold absolutely, for the land belongs to me, and you are only strangers and guestsof mine.	23 La terre ne sera pas vendue avec perte de tout droit, car la terre m'appartient et vous n'êtes pourmoi que des étrangers et des hôtes.
24 You wil al ow a right of redemption over any ancestral property.	24 Pour toute propriété foncière vous laisserez un droit de rachat sur le fonds.
25 If your brother becomes impoverished and sel s off part of his ancestral property, his nearest malerelative wil come and exercise his family rights over what his brother has sold.	25 Si ton frère tombe dans la gêne et doit vendre de son patrimoine, son plus proche parent viendrachez lui exercer ses droits familiaux sur ce que vend son frère.
26 The man who has no one to exercise this right may, once he has found the means to effect theredemption,	26 Celui qui n'a personne pour exercer ce droit pourra, lorsqu'il aura trouvé de quoi faire le rachat,
27 calculate the number of years that the alienation would have lasted, repay to the purchaser the sumdue for the time stil to run, and so recover his ancestral property.	27 calculer les années que devrait durer l'aliénation, restituer à l'acheteur le montant pour le tempsencore à courir, et rentrer dans son patrimoine.
28 If he cannot find the sum in compensation, the property sold will remain in the possession of thepurchaser until the jubilee year. In the jubilee year, the latter wil vacate it and return to his own ancestralproperty.	28 S'il ne trouve pas de quoi opérer cette restitution, le fonds vendu restera à l'acquéreur jusqu'àl'année jubilaire. C'est au jubilé que celui-ci en sortira pour rentrer dans son propre patrimoine.
29 "If anyone sel s a dwel ing house inside a wal ed town, he wil have the right of redemption until theexpiry of the year fol owing the sale. His right of redemption is limited to the year;	29 Si quelqu'un vend une maison d'habitation dans une ville enclose d'une muraille, il aura droit derachat jusqu'à l'expiration de l'année qui suit la vente; son droit de rachat est limité à l'année
30 and if the redemption has not been effected by the end of the year, the house in the wal ed town wilbecome the property of the purchaser and his descendants in perpetuity; he need not vacate it at the jubilee.	30 et, si le rachat n'a pas été fait à l'expiration de l'année, cette maison en ville close sera lapropriété de l'acquéreur et de ses descendants à l'exclusion de tout autre droit: il n'aura pas à en sortir au jubilé.
31 But houses in villages not enclosed by wal s wil be considered as situated in the open country; theycarry the right of redemption, and the purchaser wil vacate them at the jubilee.	31 Mais les maisons des villages non enclos de murailles seront considérées comme sises à lacampagne, elles comporteront droit de rachat et l'acquéreur en devra sortir au jubilé.
32 "As regards the towns of the Levites, town houses forming part of their ancestral property wil carry aperpetual right of redemption in their favour.	32 Quant aux villes des lévites, aux maisons des villes que ceux-ci possèdent, elles comportent àleur profit un droit de rachat perpétuel.
33 If a Levite is the one to be affected by the right of redemption, at the jubilee he will vacate thepurchased property and return to his own home, to the town in which he has a title to property. The houses in theLevites' towns represent their ancestral property in Israel,	33 Et si c'est un lévite qui subit l'effet du droit de rachat, il quittera au jubilé le bien vendu pourretourner à sa maison, à la ville où il a un titre de propriété. Les maisons des villes des lévites sont en effet leurpropriété au milieu des Israélites,
34 and the arable land depending on these towns cannot be sold, being their ancestral property for ever.	34 et les champs de culture dépendant de ces villes ne pourront pas être vendus, car c'est leurpropriété pour toujours.
35 "If your brother becomes impoverished and cannot support himself in the community, you wil assisthim as you would a stranger or guest, so that he can go on living with you.	35 Si ton frère qui vit avec toi tombe dans la gêne et s'avère défaillant dans ses rapports avec toi, tule soutiendras à titre d'étranger ou d'hôte et il vivra avec toi.
36 Do not charge him interest on a loan, but fear your God, and let your brother live with you.	36 Ne lui prends ni travail ni intérêts, mais aie la crainte de ton Dieu et que ton frère vive avec toi.
37 You wil not lend him money on interest or give him food to make a profit out of it.	37 Tu ne lui donneras pas d'argent pour en tirer du profit ni de la nourriture pour en percevoir desintérêts:
38 I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and be yourGod.	38 je suis Yahvé votre Dieu qui vous ai fait sortir du pays d'Egypte pour vous donner le pays deCanaan, pour être votre Dieu.
39 "If your brother becomes impoverished while with you and sells himself to you, you will not make himdo the work of a slave;	39 Si ton frère tombe dans la gêne alors qu'il est en rapports avec toi et s'il se vend à toi, tu ne luiimposeras pas un travail d'esclave;
40 you wil treat him like an employee or guest, and he wil work for you until the jubilee year.	40 il sera pour toi comme un salarié ou un hôte et travaillera avec toi jusqu'à l'année jubilaire.
41 He wil then leave you, both he and his children, and return to his clan and regain possession of hisancestral property.	41 Alors il te quittera, lui et ses enfants, et il retournera dans son clan, il rentrera dans la propriétéde ses pères.
42 For they are my servants whom I have brought out of Egypt, and they may not be bought and sold asslaves.	42 Ils sont en effet mes serviteurs, eux que j'ai fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, et ils ne doivent pas sevendre comme un esclave se vend.
43 You wil not oppress your brother-Israelites harshly but wil fear your God.	43 Tu n'exerceras pas sur lui un pouvoir de contrainte mais tu auras la crainte de ton Dieu.
44 "The male and female slaves you have wil come from the nations round you; from these you maypurchase male and female slaves.	44 Les serviteurs et servantes que tu auras viendront des nations qui vous entourent; c'est d'ellesque vous pourrez acquérir serviteurs et servantes.
45 As slaves, you may also purchase the children of aliens resident among you, and also members oftheir families living with you who have been born on your soil; and they will become your property,	45 De plus vous en pourrez acquérir parmi les enfants des hôtes qui résident chez vous ainsi que deleurs familles qui vivent avec vous et qu'ils ont engendrées sur votre sol: ils seront votre propriété
46 and you may leave them as a legacy to your sons after you as their perpetual possession. These youmay have for slaves; but you wil not oppress your brother-Israelites.	46 et vous les laisserez en héritage à vos fils après vous pour qu'ils les possèdent à titre depropriété perpétuelle. Vous les aurez pour esclaves, mais sur vos frères, les Israélites, nul n'exercera un pouvoirde contrainte.
47 "If a stranger or guest living with you gets rich and your brother, in the course of dealings with him,becomes impoverished and sel s himself to this stranger or guest, or to the descendant of a stranger's family,	47 Si l'étranger ou celui qui est ton hôte atteint une certaine aisance alors que ton frère, dans sesrapports avec lui, tombe dans la gêne et se vend à cet étranger, à cet hôte, ou au descendant de la famille d'unrésidant,
48 he wil enjoy the right of redemption after being sold, and one of his brothers may redeem him.	48 il jouira d'un droit de rachat, vente faite, et l'un de ses frères pourra le racheter.
49 His paternal uncle, his uncle's son, or a member of his own family may redeem him; if he has themeans, he may redeem himself.	49 Pourront le racheter son oncle paternel, le fils de son oncle ou l'un des membres de sa famille;ou, s'il en a les moyens, il pourra se racheter lui-même.
50 By agreement with his purchaser, he wil count the number of years between the year of sale and thejubilee year; his sale-price will be proportionate to the number of years, his time being valued as that of anemployee.	50 En accord avec celui qui l'a acquis, il fera le compte des années comprises entre l'année de lavente et l'année jubilaire; le montant du prix de vente sera évalué en fonction des années, en comptant sesjournées comme celles d'un salarié.
51 If there are stil many years to run, in proportion to their number he wil refund part of his sale-price aspayment for his redemption.	51 S'il reste encore beaucoup d'années à courir, c'est en fonction de leur nombre qu'il rembourseracomme valeur de son rachat une partie de son prix de vente.
52 And if there are only a few years stil to run before the jubilee year, he wil calculate with him whatshould be refunded for his redemption, in proportion to their number,	52 S'il ne reste que peu d'années à courir jusqu'au jubilé, c'est en fonction de leur nombre qu'ilcalculera ce qu'il remboursera pour son rachat,
53 as though he were hired by the year. You wil see to it that he is not harshly oppressed.	53 comme s'il était salarié à l'année. On ne le traitera pas arbitrairement sous tes yeux.
54 "If he has not been redeemed in any of these ways, he wil go free in the jubilee year, both he and hischildren;	54 S'il n'a été racheté d'aucune de ces manières, c'est en l'année jubilaire qu'il s'en ira, lui et sesenfants avec lui.
55 for the Israelites are my servants; they are my servants whom I brought out of Egypt. I am Yahwehyour God." '	55 Car c'est de moi que les Israélites sont les serviteurs; ce sont mes serviteurs que j'ai fait sortir dupays d'Egypte. Je suis Yahvé votre Dieu.
