1 Strongly she reaches from one end of the world to the other and she governs the whole world for itsgood.	1 Ella pertanto arriva da una estremità all'altra: con possanza, e con soavità le cose tutte dispone.
2 Wisdom I loved and searched for from my youth; I resolved to have her as my bride, I fel in love withher beauty.	2 Questa io amai, e ricercai dalla prima mia giovinezza, è procurai di prendermela per isposa, e divenni amatore di sua bellezza.
3 She enhances her noble birth by sharing God's life, for the Master of Al has always loved her.	3 La nobiltà di lei è dimostrata gloriosamente dal convivere, che ella fa con Dio; ed anzi lo stesso Signore di tutte le cose la ama:
4 Indeed, she shares the secrets of God's knowledge, and she chooses what he wil do.	4 Perocché della scienza di Dio ella è maestra, e delle opere di lui fa scelta.
5 If in this life wealth is a desirable possession, what is more wealthy than Wisdom whose work iseverywhere?	5 E se in questa vita si appetiscono le ricchezze, che v'ha di più ricco, che la sapienza fattrice di tutte le cose?
6 Or if it be the intel ect that is at work, who, more than she, designs whatever exists?	6 E se l'intelligenza produce delle opere, chi più di lei in queste cose, che esistono, l'arte mostrò?
7 Or if it be uprightness you love, why, virtues are the fruit of her labours, since it is she who teachestemperance and prudence, justice and fortitude; nothing in life is more useful for human beings.	7 E se uno ama in giustizia, le fatiche di lei hanno per obbietto delle grandi virtù; perocché ella insegna la temperanza, la prudenza, e la giustizia, e la fortezza, delle quali nissuna cosa è più utile negli uomini nella lor vita.
8 Or if you are eager for wide experience, she knows the past, she forecasts the future; she knows how toturn maxims, and solve riddles; she has foreknowledge of signs and wonders, and of the unfolding of the agesand the times.	8 E se uno brama il molto sapere, ella è, che sa le passate cose, e fa giudizio delle future, conosce gli artifizj del discorso, e la soluzione degli enimmi, conosce i segni, e i prodigj prima che succedano, e gli avvenimenti de' tempi, e de' secoli.
9 I therefore determined to take her to share my life, knowing that she would be my counsel or inprosperity and comfort me in cares and sorrow.	9 Lei adunque mi risolvei di prendere a convivere con me, ben sapendo come ella comunicherà meco i suoi beni, e mi consolerà nelle cure, e negli affanni.
10 'Thanks to her, I shal be admired by the masses and honoured, though young, by the elders.	10 Per lei io sarò illustre presso la moltitudine, e giovane sarò onorato dai seniori.
11 I shall be reckoned shrewd as a judge, and the great wil be amazed at me.	11 E mi troveranno sottile nel giudicare, e sarò ammirato dinanzi ai grandi, e i principi mostreranno ne' volli loro com'io lor rechi stupore.
12 They wil wait on my silences, and pay attention when I speak; if I speak at some length, they wil laytheir hand on their lips.	12 S' io tacerò, aspetteranno, ch'io parli, se parlerò, saranno intenti a me, e andando io avanti nel discorso, si metteranno il dito alla bocca.
13 By means of her, immortality wil be mine, I shal leave an everlasting memory to my successors.	13 Oltre a ciò per lei avrò io l'immortalità, e lascerò a quelli, che saran dopo di me eterna la mia ricordanza.
14 I shall govern peoples, and nations wil be subject to me;	14 Governerò i popoli, e saranno soggette a me le nazioni.
15 at the sound of my name fearsome despots will be afraid; I shal show myself kind to the people andvaliant in battle.	15 I re feroci temeranno al sentire il mio nome: col popolo parrò clemente, e forte in guerra.
16 'When I go home I shal take my ease with her, for nothing is bitter in her company, when life is sharedwith her there is no pain, nothing but pleasure and joy.'	16 Entrando nella mia casa avrò presso di lei il mio riposo: perocché atta ha di amaro il conversare con lei, e il convivere insieme con essa non ha tedio, ma consolazione, e gaudio.
17 Having meditated on al this, and having come to the conclusion that immortality resides in kinship withWisdom,	17 Queste cose avendo io ripensate; e nel mio cuor rammentando, come nell'unione colla sapienza si ha l'immortalità,
18 noble contentment in her friendship, inexhaustible riches in her activities, understanding in cultivatingher society, and renown in conversing with her, I went al ways, seeking how to get her.	18 E nella amicizia di lei una buona dilettazione, e nelle opere delle mani di lei una inesausta ricchezza, e nel confabulare con lei la prudenza, e nell'essere a parte de' suoi ragionamenti si ha acquisto di gloria, io andava attorno in cerca di lei per farla mia.
19 I was a boy of happy disposition, I had received a good soul as my lot,	19 Or io era fanciullo ingegnoso, ed ebbi in sorte un'anima buona.
20 or rather, being good, I had entered an undefiled body;	20 Ed essendo io più buono venni ad avere corpo immacolato.
21 but, realising that I could never possess Wisdom unless God gave her to me, -a sign of intel igence initself, to know in whose gift she lay -- I prayed to the Lord and entreated him, and with all my heart I said:	21 E tosto ch'io seppi, come io non poteva essere continente, se Dio non mei concedeva (ed era effetto di sapienza il sapere da chi venga tal dono), io mi presentai al Signore, e lo pregai, e dissi con tutto il mio cuore:
